I just finished reading Escape from the Underworld, and I loved it. It was a great way to end this book serie (and give an even better look at some interesting things, like the origin of some skull creatures, and a good reason why the Toa need a new armor for 2016).
It’s by far the best from the serie, can’t wait to make some MOCs and drawings of the new characters.
Not sure how good I am at drawing but I decided to try it anyway. The center of the mask is least detailed do to the shadow effect on it. I hope somehow this helps you guys.
I think there are a couple of prongs on the side of the main vertical one too, you can see them in one of the pics when the mask is flying off of Makuta’s face.
Speculation about the Ekimu video: Since Ekimu’s in his Maskmaker form when battling Makuta, I would speculate that this is a flashback from the Battle of the Maskmakers.
I really like the Egyptian ascetic, especially since the “crown” sort of makes him look like the king of his own kingdom, and Ekimu has his crown showing he is the ruler of a kingdom as well. I dunno I dig it.
oh, if only Makuta could have heard your kind words before his fall.
but yeah, i like the mask too. though i can get why some would be disapointed with the design, i mean they more than likely imagined a dark, malovant design, something that looked like a face that brought the fealings of dread and despair to all who stared at it, a mask which very existance was a threat to all which was, is and would be.
that also a good way to describe the mask, a mask for a fallen ruler, who became a victime to his own envyous ambition.
Yeah, it sort looks like it hates it’s very own existence. Like, it hurts for it to be alive, the eyes look like is always in pain and it fuels it’s pain to cause others pain. I dunno I might be looking into it a little to much.
I like how they sort of used a concept of the MoCr for the MoUP, I really liked that design, too, and I’m glad that it was used. I also think it fits with the Legendary Mask Motif, it just fits with the MoCr, MoCo, and the MoT.
its interesting to study the design of masks, and really, the way the mask looks, it does inspire wonder on what whent through Makuta’s mind when he forged this mask.
could the mask infact represent how Makuta felt during its creation?
like any normal persion, one can only wonder what the artist had in mind when creating the creation that we all see before us.
alright this is mhat I meant with"the way its presented here" while TJTO’s moup may be more acurate to the actual piece I feel like the eyes looked alot more menacing in the poster wich makes the model looke kinda bleh and soulless
I don’t think the mask was meant to be made evil-looking. I think Makuta had a nice design for it, it looked like he just wanted to show Ekimu that a mask with multiple powers can be controlled and that he should be the one everyone adores. Like Makuta, the mask looks ambitious, warrior-like. It carries a feeling of strength and bravery, almost as if to inspire the Okotans. It seems like it has a very assertive look, and also feels like it wants to show dominance and how superior it is.
