I think 2016 is the perfect way for bionicle to do ccbs. The only thing they could do now IMO is make more interesting shells
I’m with you there. Although I liked last year’s wave, this one is one where I have almost zero criticism about the sets…I literally like them all. I’ll probably not buy Umarak, mostly because the Toa just mean a lot more to me than any of the other characters might (so this includes some of the creatures…all of which ill also likely not buy). But yeah. I have to say, the Toa are, for me at least, much improved from last year. Tahu has that fiery glow which was so dearly missing from him last year, Gali has the beautiful colours I was hoping she would have had last year, Lewa has likely one of the more interesting constructions I’ve ever seen, as well as a great combo model, Onua has way more transparent purple than he did last year…and honestly I like him being thinned out like this more…Kopaka is slender, sleek, has great weapons and a fantastic mask, and Pohatu has my faourite mask of all, along with nice colours, a cool weapon, and an awesome combo. It sucks that ill have to choose only a few for now…but it looks more and more like I may collect them all. This is by far my favourite wave of Bionicle. Ever.
Oh yeah, especially his golden mask. As a huge Brutaka fan, I was very pleased to see Pohatu’s mask take on that form. I missed out on Brutaka years ago unfortunately.
That’s the main problem I have with Kopaka. He changed his appearance a lot next year, and it departs a little too much from his 2015 variant. I will say though, if you want anything that looks like his Toa Mata or Toa Nuva Variant, this is your set!
My other problem is his color scheme, which is has a minimum of white, and little to no gold. I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but I really liked gold as an accent color, but no secondary, or too much (like cough2016Tahucough). Actually, I think all of the Toa would look nice in gold, TBH. It makes them look royal, but that’s just me.
I also loved that color for Kopaka, as it really worked on his color scheme. I think the Metru Blue is a great inclusion, I just hope it looks good with the gold, when I revamp him. I bet it will, as most colors looks good with gold.
I will keep his slender look, but I will replace the Vorox Armor with the Gold “Paws” used as shoulder pads last year. I will either use the method used on Gali (Vorox Armor attachment, but with a ball) or the one used on Onua (Skeleton Torsos Attachment). I will put the Metru Blue Armor below it to kind of “hide” it a little.
@lambda_cla3391 You know, Pohatu’s Uniter mask reminds me of the Kanohi Olmak and the Kakama mixed together.
Yup! They made a crickcrickcrick noise when turned

Seems Lego can’t please anybody, let alone everybody.
I like the new torso, it has “bionicle” detail while still having the large panels of ccbs.
Here are my thoughts:
1. The Gear Function
It is way cool, but I think it would be cooler to have moving arms and a swinging function (much like this video below {not mine}).
I know that it would interfere with the Unity thing, but still. It just seemed like right when LEGO succeeded in the gear function in the arms, they moved it into a corner and started the hip function (although if this only happened to prepare the Ekimu the Mask Maker set for both, LEGO is forgiven).
2. The Mask of Control.

When watching The Legend, I thought the horns of the original design would interfere when moving the head around. But the new mask seems like you can move it around with no problem. The Mask of Control is awesome, no questions asked.
3. The Unity Function
In my opinion, out of all of the Uniters, Tahu and Ikir look the best. Some of the Gold Uniter Masks and the Silver Creature Masks clash.

4. The Sets Released
I kinda wish that LEGO had just made more bad guys this wave, and then released more Toa in the next. But that’s just my opinion.
5. Decisions Because of Prices
In my opinion, the first set to get in this series is Umarak the Hunter, as he has the Mask of Control. After that maybe Uxar, Creature of Jungle, to unite with Umarak and give the Toa/Uniters more of a challenge. But then I would stop there. Unless the prices were lowered, I would buy all of them.
6. Opinion on Order of Purchasing
- Umarak the Hunter
- Uxar, Creature of Jungle
- Lewa, Uniter of Jungle
- Tahu, Uniter of Fire
- Ikir, Creature of Fire
- Onua, Uniter of Earth
- Terak, Creature of Earth
- Gali, Uniter of Water
- Akida, Creature of Water
- Pohatu, Uniter of Stone
- Ketar, Creature of Stone
- Kopaka and Melum Unity
(Note: This may change over time.)
EDIT: I forgot to say though that I wish LEGO had included a Mask Stand with the Mask of Control.
Did anyone notice that in all the Toa sets there are carvings or depictions of a humanoid (Toa) The respective creature, and then there unity mode. There usually on the mask stand but on Kopaka and Onua’s box it’s on a pillar.
The Bionicle fanbase isn’t some big amorphous blob. The people disappointed with the really detailed parts aren’t likely the same people who wanted said parts. Don’t be silly.
kopaka and melum cost 25$, dont them?
I just saw the podcast, and I said, how would they look in metru colors? so here they are
(I dont know what happend to tahu, it has a white thing on his leg, I cant see that in photoshop)
they are not perfect, but I really like them,
25 to 30. Seeing as that is what Mask maker VS Skull Grinder went for, and it is a very similar set (A little dude, and a big but not too big dude) Yeah, I could imagine 30$. Maybe 25$ If you got some deal, or if lego was generous.
Speaking of them, I prolly will be bulking up the twigs that Kopaka calls upper arms, and beefing up his legs.
I don’t really think there’s been a major change in style between 2015 and 2016. They both go for that smooth yet mechanical look. The only exception to this being Tahu and Kopaka, but to me they’re the most lacking designs anyway in terms of execution rather than idea. Those two are just messy, the others look much better.
The change in build however is undoubtedly a change for the better (except perhaps the one-shell torso, but that’s an easy fix). Putting these guys together will be amazing.
I haven’t looked at the creatures until now and boy are they impressive. Bioni-mon: Gotta build em all!
So, looking at the mask of control, I think it deffinitely looks more like the MoL Kraahkan in the finalized version…it looks regal, yet a bit familiar. I like it a lot!
I gotta say, Nokama colours on Gali look amazing…I would buy her first if she had orange and navy blue colours.
I wonder why Gali’s unity piece is flipped…
@Fidda I love Metru green Lewa. It makes him look so…serious, n’ dark…like he’s the Master of Forests as opposed to Jungle
I think this is a pretty stupid reason, but I beleive it was done to give her a more feminine neck.
Woo.
/s
Speaking of Gali, I was watching Ant-Man yesterday and I noticed that Hope’s suit (The Dragonfly? Wasp 2.0?) looks remarkably similar to Gali. Down to the color scheme even.
If so, that’s a really thin neck there.
Better than nothing. May or may not be her only feminine characteristic
I’ll have to wait for reviews of the sets to come out in order to decide which three I’m buying first. From the cache pics so far, however, I’d say:
- Onua and Terak
- Pohatu and Ketar (little fellow has actually grown on me)
- Kopaka and Melum
Tahu and Lewa along with their creatures are still in the running for first, and they’re lower than Kopaka/Melum solely because of weapons and design, which I find to be better with Kopaka. Gali is essentially guaranteed as I should be getting her as a gift
