I completely agree.
But, in the interest of increasing creativity, I figured the point should be made. If everyone thinks it’s a dumb point, then say so, and the idea dies. I even kind of agree with you.

Oh, is it time for the metru build argument this week? Neat. Call me when it’s over.
Is it completely, or kind of???
It’s dumb. Can we cease this frivolity?
Hi, when it’s over, I’m Dad.
I completely agree that requiring a Metru torso isn’t that bad.
I kind of agree that my argument is too nitpicky.
Gear function=/=build
If it looks like a metru build, it’s a metru build.
We’re moccists. We find ways around those limitations by making custom stuff.
First of all, we have an art contest for a reason.
Also, I’m replying to this:
If you don’t have a Metru Torso, but you can make a custom torso that resembles a Metru Torso, then that should be allowed.
Is it just me, or does Sirkeksalot’s avatar not work in my quotes?
The build dictates what gear functions can and can’t go in it. You need an entirely new gearbox to accommodate a different function.
I mean, there’s a point at which you might as well give up and just model the ■■■■ thing in Blender if you don’t want to work with the limitations of Lego parts. Those limits are what make this art medium what it is.
It should not. That defeats the point. And again: ■■■■■■■ stud.io.
Jaller prayed for a Huna, and he received one. But only in quotes.
Nah. You and I both know that’s not going to be done because someone couldn’t find a cheap piece. Most likely it’ll result in the creator making non-existing connections because they want to go overboard on being different for the sake of being different.
I’d have more respect if you said that you don’t want to use the torso piece, even if it means ignoring canon and design consistency. We already know the Toa Hagah’s primary colors reflect their Rahaga forms for starters.
Okay, I think it’s time I showed off an example of my argument.
This is a metru build. It does not use the metru torso, but it matches a standard metru build in every other way. I built it this way to accomodate a Nuva chest, which doesn’t fit well on a Metru torso.
No we don’t.
Kiina’s torso build is approximately the same size as a metru build. If you gave it metru limbs it’d be even more so. But I wouldn’t say it is. Proportion isn’t everything
Regarding colors, I believe it’s been firmly stated by greg that the hagah all use their primary color from their Rahaga forms, so that shouldn’t be an issue at all.
Actually, we do.
That only applies to the base colours though; the metallic colours are still up for grabs. However, the torso piece will not be metallic, so the colour of the Metru torso is known.
The issue with the “what is and is not a Metru build” is a tricky one. As people have mentioned earlier, a metru torso doesn’t necessarily mean the MoC will match the metru-build (and more importantly, the Hagah’s) aesthetic. And it is perfectly possible to build a custom MoC that perfectly resembles the build without being one.
Ultimately, the “metru-ness” of a MoC is subjective and you want as few “I know it when I see it” rules in a fair contest. While there are clear and cut cases (don’t submit an Inika or Mata MoC), there are plenty of grey areas that people will test and argue over.
To allow for maximum freedom, I suggest that a strict Metru-build should be a recommendation rather than hard-set rule and let the fans vote on the best MoC. Keep in mind that Artakha didn’t have to be titan-sized or use sand-green pieces to win and yet the winning MoC did. Like-wise, people were worried about gigantic, overly complex Helryx MoCs, but the winner was within the same scale of the Mata.
People are probably going to vote for “metru-y” entries anyway. The fear that if we allow for non-metru torsos, it will lead to some crazy, out there winning model seems unfounded to me, given the track record thus far.
“2) Wouldn’t it have matched their Rahaga colors?”
“firmly stated”
Yeah, no
For the record, though, I doubt, say, a MAta blue Helrys will win. But the torso color needn’t match their primary color: see Norik. If someone wants a Gaaki with a sand blue torso, they can’t do that without painting, or making a custom torso.

Yes we do.

That’s not a metru build lol
“Look I know I didn’t use the torso piece that is essential to the build but I used the arms and legs that happen to come with metru builds”
I built it this way to accomodate a Nuva chest, which doesn’t fit well on a Metru torso.
And yet it’s possible to do so. So why go with a custom torso then? Honestly, this seems like bad faith arguing and I can’t take this seriously.

Like Keks said, Stud.io

I’ve got a lot of metru build mocs that use the nuva chest armor actually. It fits just fine if you’re only a little creative about it.
essential to the build
Who said it’s essential to the build? If we knew that, then we wouldn’t be having this discussion.
And yet it’s possible to do so.
Ok… to be fair, someone in this topic did find a way to do it, after I posted it was not possible. However, I did try when I made this moc, and was not able to pull it off in the right position, without sacrificing the gear function.
That’s not a metru build lol
It looks just like a Toa Metru. Ergo, it is a Metru build.
Ergo, it is a Metru build.
Is it? If we knew that, then this discussion wouldn’t be happening.

The use of the term build inherently refers to how something is built, not just how it looks.

I could show you how to use that metru chest, but I think the orientation of the kraahkan would be the problem. No neck mobility
