Which is why I’m bringing it up at all. I think this idea is decent enough to pitch, but yeah, if TTV/BS01 don’t like it then there’s nothing I can do beyond that.
This sums up all of my counterpoints. I personally don’t have a problem with the current compromise, because it avoids so many more problems. It seems close-minded to say that you’re against it based on your personal desire for you MOC to become canon.
The compromise was months in the making - the entire premise that these contests are built on. I don’t think it’s likely to change.
I would be lying if I said I didn’t desire my MOC to become canon. As I’ve said, I’m not going to throw a fuss if the rules stay the same, it would still be really cool if my MOC inspired canon art. But it doesn’t hurt to pitch the idea.
If this idea gets ignored or rejected, life goes on lol.
Actually, I just had an idea that everyone might be OK with.
All Hagah inspire art, and the art will become canon. For the MOC entries, only those that don’t have 3D printed parts are also sent to become canon.
This way, all the Hagah get art, BS01 does not need to omit any canon information, and if a MOCist really wants their MOC to become canon they can restrict their MOCs to not use any 3D printed parts.
EDITED FOR DOUBLE POST! - SPIDERUS PRIME
EDIT: Sorry for the double post! Still a bit new to posting to this message board.
Thats not really a revolutionary idea thats pretty much what a lot of the general debate has been over up until now
Ah, here I was thinking I was clever, lol.
Either way, consider me an advocate for this idea. I think it appeals to as many people as possible given the odd situation with BS01.
I mean
Aside from the non-3d printed entries not technically becoming canon that’s literally the format of the last two contests
You’re basically asking us if we want to handle it the way we’ve been handling it, and imo yeah? I would
Plus imo if BS01 doesn’t want to list the mocs as canon with 3d printed parts, they don’t get to list the mocs without 3d printed parts as canon either
Greg’s said he was ok with 3d printed parts and his statement of OK would absolutely be interpreted as canonizing the physical model if not for BS01, so if we’re forced to only accept the artwork for the others it’s gonna be the same here
The only difference is that if the winning MOC has no 3D printed parts, it is sent along with artwork to both become canon. So for some characters, Greg might get two images to approve.
I suppose this is where we disagree. I am willing to limit my MOC to non-3d printed parts if it means it could be sent to Greg, and I think I probably wouldn’t be alone on this.
Probably, although I think you’d be surprised - being able to use custom parts and be the basis for the canon artwork, plus getting a shoutout on BS01, is a pretty good compromise for not becoming actual canon, in my - and I think many others’ - eyes.
The MOCs are literally sent to Greg though. If it wasn’t for BS01’s hard No on the topic, we wouldn’t need an art contest.
I believe it was stated in some Nak and Jay or other that either way there was going to be an art contest, in order to include everyone in the community. This is also why customized and 3D parts haven’t been banned.
Is that the case? I was under the impression that only the art was sent to Greg for approval. If the MOC is also being sent to Greg for approval, doesn’t that mean that BS01 is omitting their canon status?
Not for approval as canon, I don’t think. This was the last line of defense in the first contest in case Hoseryx won.
Yeah basically, but that be how it be.
Moc contests should only be omitted for characters we already know everything about. Mavrah, for example-- we know he’s a Metru matoran, and has a purple pakari; we basically know what he looks like already, we just need an actual picture.
Ok so to clarify, Greg approves the MOC portion, but not as canon, only as inspiration for the eventual art, yes?
If that’s the case, then all I propose to change is that Greg approves the MOC as canon if it doesn’t contain 3D-printed parts (otherwise, he only approves it to be inspiration). And either way, an art contest is done, and that art becomes canon, too.
Maybe. I don’t see the mods doing that, though - it’s a minor change that could lead to catastrophic division, because guess what the next push is after that one is accepted?
All MOCs becoming canon, regardless of 3d or custom parts, and Dorek - along with anyone else who disagrees - can deal with it, because “One person shouldn’t be able to go against the desires of the community”.
I’d like to think that we won’t fall for the slippery slope fallacy. After all, we’re all mostly adults, we can handle this minor rule change maturely I think. At least, I hope.
Have you seen the rest of this topic? Or the final poll in the Helryx contest?
Point taken.
Still, I think it’s worth pitching the idea out there. If TTV doesn’t think the community can take it, then I’ll respect that decision.
Is this like an intentionally terrible idea?
