Fair point. I’m still leaning towards requiring the art to closely follow the entire MOC, if only on the basis of that being the design that actually won the MOC contest.
Not necessarily the case, I think. There’s a lot of purists who might vote against it if it’s known that it will become the canon design in the art. Also you will likely have more MOCs use standard masks that are entered into the competition.
So what? That’s what we already have - the art being based off of the MOC. It’s just that we’re not currently forcing artists to follow the MOC perfectly. I don’t exactly want to see a ton of clone art, but maybe I’m just a lunatic.
Based on how previous contests went, I doubt the mask plays that big of a factor. There was only moc with a 3D printed mask during the final round of the Helryx contest, but it wasn’t going to win anyways. There were three mocs with 3D printed masks during the final round of Artakha, only one of which had a realistic chance of winning, and won accordingly.
These are moc contests, not mask contests. Using a custom mask isn’t a cheat code to winning, as shown by previous contests. If your moc didn’t win and happened not to use a certain mask, it was probably going to lose anyways.
The same way not everybody has access to lego pieces, paints, let alone the ability to make a good moc? Don’t you already have to 3D print and paint the canon masks if you want to have the canon design for characters such as Nikila, Surel, Helryx, and Artakha?
Lol, point is, let’s just simply present the case for our views and avoid being passive aggressive. I think we can all handle a few minor disagreements.
You aren’t exactly wrong about the art potentially looking like clone art, but, at the same time, this wouldn’t really be any different from the last two contests.
Is true, since their mask have different form of the original mask. I will prefer to have new mask design, but I could get behind a Hau Bomonga.
Different will be for other character like Tuyet. I wound’t want that the mask of intagibility have the exact same shape than a Ruru for example.
Given how the past art contests have play out, I doubt we will have clone art just because using the same mask. Many entries used a King’s mask, but they were very different from each other.
That because the mask were place holders. What he is proposing is that MOC mask (original or 3D printed) become canon, and the art have to use that mask.
And again, is a Lego contest. Not having the Lego pieces or the talent sucks, but what else could you do?
I’m not neglecting stylization. I’m making the point that to me - and (again unless I’m a lunatic) a lot of other people - masks are a huge part of the art.
Unless we’re voting for artwork purely based on some cool color gradient. In that case it’s just determined by who has the best Wacom Cintiq.
