I think that’s a good thing to aim for, yeah. A middle ground is probably what we’ll get too. A similar design diversity to the Mahri or the Mata would be something to shoot for, imo. Of course, both those Toa teams I mentioned were from the exact same locations of the universe, so idk.
I just know I’m gonna skip voting for any Vahki-tier palette swaps.
Would it be possible to get data on the most popular mask and spear options for each character? Or would the data be spread too thin, with so many different options?
If that’s possible, though, it would also be interesting to see what the “ideal” entry is for each Hagah, in terms of having the most popular metallic colour, mask, and spear for that Toa.
But doesn’t Perpetual’s Bomonga have the hunch?
Not that I care, though. I think that’s one of my favourite Bomonga entries, if not my absolute favourite.
They do come from different teams and different parts of the universe, but after joining Toa Hagah they all got new masks and armor. So them having uniformed or clone-like look isn’t out of the question.
No but them getting new armor doesn’t exclude the possibility that the armor has unique designs. Maybe the armor are honoring previous Toa armor or maybe they are designed like the armor from the respective hagahs home.
Thats actually something I did when designing noriks former team. I gave them a random part which is like noriks hagah armor. (The leader has the chestplate, another one got the shoulders and so on) when the contest is over I will design the Teams of kualus gaaki etc. and give every member some pieces resembeling the Hagah Armor
You didn’t differentiate between Flat Silver and Pearl Light Grey.
Plus, I may be unexperienced, but I would consider my designs on par with the ones you chose, or at least not far behind, as my goal was to use official pieces, whenever possible, though after submitting I found part models I woul liek to use instead…
UPDATE: I reract the last part, the designs are amateurish and boring…
Funnily enough, I don’t plan on voting for any of those “predicted finalists” except for maybe specterL’s Kualus
I was going to ask you how many entries of each Toa there are, until I realized I could just take the numbers provided from the metallic distribution charts and just add them together. So, barring omissions from those charts, there are:
~102 Kualus entries
~93 Bomonga entries
~95 Gaaki entries
~93 Pouks entries
Even barring a couple unintentional omissions, I’m surprised by how many more Kualus entries there are compared to the others. Guess I’m not alone in him being my favorite of the Hagah
And for the people wondering what’s taking TTV so long to get the polls up and running, keep in mind that the last two contests had ~100 entries. This contest has close to 4x that number, with each character necessitating their own polling system. That’s a lot of hard work, and it’s a lot of long work. It’ll happen when it happens.
It’s worth keeping in mind as well that not only do “likes” not necessarily correlate to votes, but that if the same number of people vote in the Hagah contest as they did in the Helryx and Artakha contests, even Perp3tual with 88 likes doesn’t reach a fourth of the total voter base (both Helryx and Artakha had 400+ people vote in their respective contests). Based on that, even if we arbitrarily add an extra 100 lurkers who have already looked over the entries, took a look at the discourse around them, and picked out favorites, that still leaves over half of the voter base who have yet to see most if not all of the entries. Then we add in the ranked voting system as well, which is its whole other monkey wrench in predicting results, and basically, we won’t know until we know. That might not be a satisfying answer I realize, but that’s how I see it at the moment.
I think you’re being too hard on yourself. I think they look fine.
I’m sure other people would argue that, but not me personally. I’m more looking for designs that look like they could’ve come from 2005, and yours are pretty close to that.
I was afraid my entries were too plain and boring as well. Had a couple people say mine were kind of uninspired. But I did my best shaping them around the two Hagah we had gotten previously. They would look out of place if they didn’t mix well with Iruini or Norik.
I think many entries are plain and boring, and it’s what I expect from a Toa Hagah. I will choose plain and boring just like Norik and Iruini, over something overly complicated.
That is why he preferred that the contest be for the entire team rather than each member being voted on separately as now. But well, that discussion is already closed.
Interesting. My personal ideal color combinations would be:
#1: 3/3
K: Gold/silver
G: Gold
P: Silver
B: Silver/gold
This would ideally give all of them somewhat buildable colors (since the shields only come in silver and gold), and avoids the flat color combos of gold/Brown or Silver/white (though silver/white is certainly acceptable IF there’s another color as an accent, like light blue)
If gunmetal is going to be included, this is how I’d like to see it. Gunmetal Bomonga falls to the same problem as silver Kualus and gold pouks, so ideally it would go to Kualus and Pouks (unless Bomonga has an accent color, like dark red, which mitigates that issue)
#3: 1/1/1/1/1/1
K: mettalic blue/copper
G: Pearl white
P: Gunmetal/mettalic black
B: Pearl gold/Metallic green/copper
IF all the hagah are going to be different colors, these are my personal favorite options for each.
On that subject, I was initially rather surprised by the number of entries using gunmetal. In hindsight I shouldn’t of been, seeing as how it’s one of the most numerous of metallic colors, but it’s not a color I’d really associate in comparison with the “illustriousness” of gold and silver, especially for elite Toa. That’s part of the reason I went with copper for my Kualus and Gaaki.
