What’s you talk about, man?
With no updates, everything in this topic is a joke.
we ended up losing and it’s all your fault
So where are the polls?
Not trying to be controversial or anything, but i have a genuine question:
Why these contests are being held here and not in another platform (reddit, bzpower, etc.)?
Out of the loop.
Because the TTV cast holds the contest. And expanding it to other websites would make it even more complicated to check all the entries. The contest would take even longer than it does now.
Part of it is that TTV is one of the most Bionicle-centric community hubs still out there. BZPower has turned into more of a general Lego site, and r/bioniclelego is just part of another larger site.
Also, the Contests were originally proposed on TTV.
In addition to what Senit and Jerminator said, it’s also here because the mods can actually verify the accounts that vote here, unlike say on Reddit. So no dupes or bot voting or something like that.
The Polls are a figment of your imagination
The real polls were the friends we made along the way.
Everyone keeps asking where the poles are, but has anyone even performed the crucial first step of bringing Kotu the bamboo needed to create them?
wrong poles
Any updates on the polls? This wait seems excessive and I’m admittedly starting to get a little frustrated over it. If the only reason for the delay is the logistics of creating these polls I think there’s ways to get them done faster.
If any help is needed in setting up these polls or anything else related to these contests, I’m sure many of us would be happy to help. I fear all this uncertainty will reflect negatively on both TTV and these canon contests themselves. Many hands make light work.
That would be quite a petty reason for the delay tbh. Essentially what you are saying is that TTV would delay something on purpose because people are critiqueing them for the current delay. “Look, if you are going to ask us for any more updates, then we’ll delay the contest on purpose, because you sir, are annoying”
And I’m sure any integrity on TTV’s part will be completely lost if one outside hand adds or subtracts to the process. They’ve already received numerous allegations of rigging things in people’s favor or ignoring votes; how much more if another party is added to the process?
Generous and helpful, and entirely with good intentions - but really bad for TTV.
Hmm… fair nuff
So I tapped out of TTV for a week or two and have no idea how long it’s been since the Hagah contest closed, but I would like to once again insert my opinion (in the appropriate topic for once, yes!) that we should abandon the canon contests and let things stand as they were. Not only do I feel that they unnecessarily detail and restrict certain aspects of the canon, but I also think that all this debate in the BIONICLE community (not that TTV is all of the community, which is another reason I think the contests are misplaced) is polarizing, petulant, and ultimately petty. I’ve seen the contests and the apparently infamous “Metru build” debate lauded (or at least promoted) in this manner:
(Not to single @Ghid out, sorry mate.)
It disturbs me that contests and heated, ultimately trivial debates should be considered revitalizing activity for the community. I don’t know if anyone has had fun in these debates, apart from making memes and jokes regarding horse-beating quantum physics, but I’d wager a guess that the answer of the majority of debators would be “no.” I personally like BIONICLE because it’s fun. These contests and debates are not fun to me, and the community at large does not seem to be having fun. There’ve been drama and disagreements aplenty, but looking at the last several dozen posts on this very topic, all I see are disgruntled people losing faith in contests which, I must say bluntly, seem very much to be too tall an order for TTV to handle.
I don’t care whether we ever get Hagah polls, and I’d prefer if we undertook no further canon contests, but I would like it more than either if the community involved in these contests wasn’t apparently descending into strife and resentment. I am (again, personally) enjoying BIONICLE less because of these contests, and I know I’m not the only one. I beseech TTV and everyone who champions or supports these contests to reconsider.
Serious Willess: ON.
There’s a growing perception that any discussion or disagreement is a heated debate full of hatred and vitriol. That any debate is emblematic of strife and resentment. I think this is a VERY negative view to have on, well, anything, be it bionicle or contests or any other fandom or even any debate in real life.
Regarding whether the debates were ‘fun’ even debating the Metru torso for months, it was still interesting to see all sorts of different views. Heck, some posts even changed my mind on some stuff. And even when I was in the heat of the debate posting multiple times a day, it was still good to debate these things with fellow Bionicle dorks. Okay, maybe I did go a bit far a time or two, for example when I had to apologize to @Ghid , but I fully admit that that’s on me and my failure of communication skills – for example, saying something serious that I meant as a joke. That’s my failing, I’m not the best arguer, and I’d say that’s hardly indicative of everyone involved. And at the end of the day I don’t resent Ghid and I hope he hates me because I deserve it doesn’t resent me either.
Now, did the Mettur torso debate go on too long? Totally, no disagreements there. But I don’t think that’s indicative of growing disgruntlement, I think it’s just people tired of seeing the same debate over and over. The same thing will happen to any discussion/debate that goes on long enough. Plus, there’s the fact that there were several months where TTV had to decide a multitude of other issues, yet the Torso debate persisted. And again, while I still disagree with @SirKeksalot 's viewpoint, I hold no resentment to him, never did.
Point being: the debates and discussions aren’t as negative as some people make them out to be, and I don’t resent anyone for them.
Serious Willess: off
Except that @Willess12 person, he’s a jerk and I hate him.
Lol. Nice speech.
Y’see folks, this is how these negative discussions start. By making an inherently negative thesis.
Cause it’s, y’know, negative.
But jokes aside, these discussions and arguments wouldn’t be a problem if people would be willing to communicate and try and see the other person’s side. People being too opinionated for their own good is the #1 thing that brings down these contests.
I think if people just made a concerted effort to be less nitpicky and negative and controversial thing’d be a lot more enjoyable.
