BIONICLE G1 Canon Contests Discussion & Questions

Well, I did say “correct me if I’m wrong.”

If I may ask, what is that from?

BL10, one of the flashbacks. Also, I’m not trying to “gotcha” with that, it’s the only time “emerald” is close to lime in the entire written canon. If “emerald” means “lime” because of this line, it also means “sand green”. (I for one, would be against a fully-lime Nidhiki just because it would be ugly, and, in the words of a BZP reviewer who hated Mahri Hahli, “eye-searing”)

mata blue and flat dark gold?
That would be interesting.

As long as it’s not a combo of Chrome blue and chrome gold it’s fine.

Mirror-polished Varian sounds cool.

It’s probably worth mentioning that NOGLB was written in 2010 and according to Bricklink, the only set with azure parts that had been released at that time was… this

BL Dark Azure by year, BL Medium Azure by year

Clearly that was the source of inspiration for Shadow-Nui when describing Varian’s appearance

Wow, I would’ve never had the guts to say all this…
In fact the only time I may have said anything that Eljay could’ve gotten upset at was when I jokingly compared him to Gordon Ramsey with this behavior. (Although I did clarify that I had no intention on purposely offending him; as I only wanted to point it out how I personally saw the similarities between the two with the aggressive tone of attitude)

I can’t say for certain whether or not Eljay would/wouldn’t severely punish you for this, so all I’m gonna say is good luck!

But from now on, it may probably just be best to leave this out of the discussion within the contest threads, just to stay on the safe side.

I’ll be doing the same with my psionic toa. Medium blue as the primary color is definitely a better choice than metru blue or mata blue. It helps differentiate the elements more. Plus, I think the lighter blue feels more “psionic” (whatever that means). It’s the same blue as the sky, almost tranquil. And if people want to add a secondary blue color, there’s always sand blue. The two would look nice together.

You’re still free to disregard canon as you so please - I disregard the lack of love and gender locks because they so thoroughly dampen my enjoyment of creating things for Bionicle, and you should be willing to let yourself do the same for the appearances of characters. I also think that “oppression” is a very strange, maybe even self-centered thing to call it, as you’re not being subjugated or having any rights stripped away, just having your headcanon slightly doused.

I hate to be that guy but I actually always imagined Varian as dark blue and gold… That might be due to various fanarts I’ve seen, namely the ones by BionicleChicken, Just-rube and Demitsorou (although that one features another shade of blue as well).

That being said, I’m open to other fans’ interpretations. Shame Varian’s contest is so far ahead…

I don’t know why we’re talking about Eljay like he’s a dictator. People have been flaunting his requests surrounding these contests for awhile and he’s got to deal with some BS related to them nearly every day. It seems to me like he’s at the end of his rope. I certainly don’t blame him.

I agree on this. I think a lot of the debate on the side of the canon-adherents calling for the end of the contests is mired in exaggeration and melodrama.

Goodness forbid that a guy who’s been dealing with a year plus worth of people whining and starting fights with absurdly low stakes when it isn’t even his day job be slightly rude, right?

I never said that.

Seems like you fear retribution should his actions be criticized. While that may speak to Eljay’s conduct, it certainly speaks as to how you view his conduct. Maybe he could stand to be a little more polite, but he certainly doesn’t owe it to anyone. See Voot above.

I mean, he’s been acting that way long before the contests started…

I never said that he needed to owe anyone anything either.

Let’s not jump to conclusions, nor assumptions.

And here I was thinking that this conversation was over.

He’s already liked the posts arguing against me, so I’m safe.

I’d suggest you follow the topic down from the quote I posted in my last message. Gilahu has explained his reasoning for this there.

Strong passion for something can often look like melodrama (granted, so can inflated egos). Pretty much all the debates that have been had here suffer from that.

I’m sorry, but I don’t really see where your coming from. I wouldn’t get how somebody liking posts arguing against you would guarantee you from being safe from anything.
