All of the above I feel could be argued to be humanoid-ish body types (with verrying degrees of modification) in my opinion, but to what degree will artists be allowed to differ from the norm.
Marendar’s planned to be the last contest of this round, so it looks like TTV will have plenty of time to figure out how to define “humanoid” for the purposes of that contest.
Subjectively, I would say that the last three are humanoid, while the first (Sebulba) is not. I argue that Sebulba is not humanoid on the basis that his legs connect to his trunk higher than his arms.
I would say that only the Enderman is humanoid. I’m not sure about the last one because the four arms, but I guess it could be considered as humanoid. I wouldn’t say that a gorilla has an humanoid form, prinicpally because they usually move in four legs.
Do you have any comparisons with Lhikan or a Metru Toa?
I mean there’s like 6 contests ahead of him, but that being said I’m basically finished mine too. Just waiting on parts or sorting through boxes to see if I’ve misplaced them.
To be honest he’s also probably my only Physical version for now since I apparently have like no Metru Blue or Medium Blue pieces for Tuyet and Varian.
I suppose my only remaining question before the beginning of the Tuyet contest will be how tall the figure should be. Should she scale well a) next to the figures of 2008-9 as she is still alive and active as of the time the story froze, or b) with a Metru build since Lhikan’s figure was about the height of Vakama Metru? I could see the argument going both ways, but I have a preference towards the former and my planned entry was designed as such.
From a rules perspective, there will be no scale mandate of any kind (as of right now).
In terms of opinion, I would personally prefer that she be in scale with the Toa Lhikan model, since that’s who she appears with in her main, personal story.
Also, it’s basically impossible to scale her with the later story characters (specifically the ones she appears with in Reign Of Shadows), since they themselves have different scales in set/model form; Axonn, Brutaka, and Vezon are Inika-scale, Lewa Nuva/Tren Krom and the three Matoran (Kapura, Macku, and Hafu) are Mata-scale, Helryx and Artakha’s scales are unclear, and Miserix is way out of scale with all of them.
I think most people will want tuyet to scale with lhikan, but I certainly hope no size constraints are enforced to ensure it. the size constraints for the hagah felt arbitrary and I’d prefer that future contests don’t feature similar rules.
I agree with this. Obviously the Metru-torso requirement (which I agree with) brought with it some degree of inherent size limitation, but I always disagreed with the implementation of Whenua and Iruini as hard limits.
I think Tuyet (you might not agree) should have a Metru build that’s slightly modified like the 4 canon Toa Hagah models or a custom build like Ndihiki’s upper torso from the 2004 set.
I think that the rule for toa heights going forward should be no taller than Nuparu Mahri and no shorter than Onua Mata.
If not a rule this should be a highly encouraged guideline imo. However I’d prefer it be a rule, it worked well for the Hagah imo and this time it would be a bit more expansive.
These are the two compromises I feel could happen here.
The tallest Toa are Mahri Nuparu, Mahri Jaller, Phantoka Lewa, and Mistika Onua, but it is plausible that you could use a tall feet (like the mechanical piraka foot or Mantax’s foot) together with a tall Inika torso configuration (like in the previously mentioned Toa) and make the tallest Toa by one pin hole.
I think that using Mahri Nuparu as a limit would work with Nidhiki and Tuyet, because they should look like they belong in the same generation as Lhikan, even if they have unique builds (which I hope they do). But for the Yesterday Questers I think they should use the tallest an Inika build can be as the limit.
Still, I’m not in favor of height restrictions. Don’t get me wrong, I’m the first that wouldn’t like a Brutaka sized Tuyet, but in the end, to prevent it the best way is to vote wisely. If the contests, specially Helryx’s, have shown us something is that the community prioritizes believability in universe over aesthetics, therefore if someone enters a Toa moc that is either too tall or too short, it won’t get enough votes to win anyway.
Keep in mind, Nidhiki should probably be able to scale well with the DHs featured in his stories, like Lariska and Krekka. Another thing to consider is that Lariska seems to be around the height of Hakann, judging by Legacy of Evil. Since Nidhiki doesn’t mention a major height difference, they seem to be similar height (I.e. less than a 3 studs difference).
As for Tuyet, she is shown with Maxilos and Matoro, as well as Nidhiki and Lhikan. Personally I’m scaling mine to be slightly taller than Lhikan, but shorter than Nidhiki.
I agree with TYQ trio being at the Inika/Mahri height limit. It would be pretty weird if they were Mata or Metru sized.
Finally Varian should try to scale with Norik, Lurker and Gatherer since they share most of her screen time.
