BIONICLE G1 Canon Contests Discussion & Questions

Well, do you think I didn’t understand your intention at all?
Friend, I’m saying let’s stop talking about the past, I’ve never said you’re no-bigmonga supporter.

Hagah Contest was the first contest I participated in, and it was a mess, and I was disappointed, and TTV made a mistake at the end.

I won’t talk about how much controversy over the past year, how much waited, and how many people have been exhausted.

There’s no reason to mention it anymore because it’s already over.

I know it’s to prevent that from happening again.
But I just said because we don’t need to repeat the same said every month in this thread.

We already know what happened, and we can’t do it again from the beginning, but we’re trying to go in a better direction in the future.
However, reminding everyone of what they already know will never help for future contests.

That depends, if you think the original post I made had as intention to start the Bomonga debacle up again.

And I’m not saying we should either. Yet most everybody in here assumes I am and argues through that lens. which proves my point.

again you assume that I started the conversation with this intended outcome in mind. I didn’t personally I would love the debates from the Hagah contest that aren’t relevant anymore to be over. I do think the mask discussion is worth having though.

Disagreeing, selective argumentation and being unable to view things through different perspectives won’t help either. Just saying. We can have a productive conversation about things we don’t agree on with no serious outcome or effect on the contests from said discussion.

At this point, we don’t understand each other.
You also assumed that I was thinking that way.

I just thought it was because there was no reason to argue about the contest that had already ended.
i think necessary discussion about hagah is only about Kanohi, that has become unknown shape, and there is no need to remind the way the MOC was built or mistakes of TTV.
If these two are mentioned, there have been few productive discussions, so I don’t like

mask discussion, yes, is worth discussing more.
but
I say it a little rudely.

You’re the one who brought bigmonga topic up again from a topic that had nothing to do with it. not other people

that word overturn everything about your said that post.

However, you mentioned it ‘to debunk several misconceptions and assumptions made about me’, and at the end of that, you made a misunderstanding again.

At least in my eyes, I’m sorry if it’s prejudice.but I really wanted to say this.

edit : To be honest. I don’t know if the translator works properly.

The only reason I brought up Bomonga was to clear up the misconceptions about me based on the preconceived notions presented in Bukkeys allegory. Not to spark the debate all over again. Essentially it was used as an example to explain where those preconceived notions were wrong. Not as an argument to fuel that debate. We all know that debate has been settled.

Its important here to distinguish the intent from the outcome. Because I’ve said earlier that I can’t control how people react to my posts. If the Bomonga debate is brought up again out of context of what I actually said or why I used Bomonga as an example in the first place. Can you then say its truly my fault for the argument resurfacing?

In a perfect world were everyone’s intent were never in question. This discussion would have ended after Mechronus post. However we don’t live in a perfect world. The best thing we can do now is to reflect over if our responses is applicable to the conversation before posting it.

I’m gonna suggest any further conversation about intent and who wants what and all be moved to private at this point. It’s not leading anywhere.

Thank you.

Any ideas on when the Tuyet Contest is gonna start?

To yet be determined.

I’m starting to think a GSB contest is a bad idea. Yes I do believe we should have an art contest for the GSB, but not a build contest. My first bit of reasoning for this is basically the GSB is going to be one of the worst situations of part scarcity. In the past with Artahka and Helryx, it was more of an understandable thing where the rarer pieces were balanced out by most of their parts being common. Plus they used the pieces sparingly. The Hagah were ok, with only a certain character (not trying to spark anymore of this arguement so I won’t mention his name) creating a decent scarcity for Black Metru Torsos.
The GSB though is going to a character who basically drains every single Pearl Gold piece on the market, as he is 90% Gold. (RIP Brutaka and Irnakk)

My second reasoning is well, honestly he’s more of an artwork character. Like no one expects a Tren Krom or Annona contest as their descriptions makes them a MOCCing nightmare. With the GSB, he’s basically a WWE wrestler with a Piraka head on top. Like yes you can try making him but ultimately I’d rather have artwork depicting both Annona and the GSB fighting, that way we get to see them but don’t worry about replicatablity.

Finally, the GSB has only been shown in 1 fight, where it used rocks from the ground to attack Annona, never attacking himself. With basically means you’ll have the GSB just standing there.
Like with the other characters on the Canonization list, you have a variety of battles and poses you can put them in, as even Maranadar kills Toa and fights them. The GSB either has him standing around, coming out of a vat or standing around, but this time with rock spikes. Like he’s basically a statue that just would exist to skyrocket the prices of the Pearl Gold pieces.

Now of course someone is going to say Marander was mentioned once so it’s the same situation but again let’s be honest. Marander was being set up to be this unstoppable killing machine, while the GSB was at most gonna be like the Eye of Sauron, standing still and using magic or other creatures to do stuff for him. In fact I’d rather leave his appearance unknown, like Annona and Tren Krom so people can make their own version but if he absolutely needs a contest, it should be an art contest.

Anyways that’s my 24K cents on the GSB. Figured I’d bring it up early so we can discuss it more.
Edit: Shortened the beginning

This will always be the GSB in my eyes. It may not be all gold but its in a literal sense what he is. A Zyglak, Steltian, Vortixx and Skakdi Nui Kaita.

EDIT:
On the topic of the GSB contest I’m okay with it just being art

Oh goodness please no. Its not a bad moc but GSB?
No sir, no thank you.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t buy an Irnakk just so I could make GSB later down the line, but honestly I think an art-only contest for this character is the way to go. BS01 describes him as “twelve feet high, is extremely muscular, and has shining golden skin and wears no armor.” I’m not sure about you, but each of those characteristics sounds more difficult to pull off than the last.

  • “Twelve feet high” is probably the easiest as long as the figure is just really tall (I think a 1 inch to 1 foot ratio is ideal for this purpose).
  • “Extremely muscular” is more challenging to pull off consistently but we have Axonn as our token jock so the MOC’s building techniques could be inspired by him.
  • “Shining golden skin” at first doesn’t sound so bad until you remember how little pearl gold exists in constraction without painting parts. CCBS armor shells’ smooth surfaces could potentially look more convincingly like skin than the detailed parts of G1.
  • “Wears no armor” is the real kicker, basically nullifying any possibility of a constraction build in the style of G1 or CCBS, both of which heavily rely on armor. A build like Arishem or Iron Man 2022 could probably work in this area, but then the question becomes how believable would a largely System-built character be in a constraction-built universe?

I mean:

The Toa Mahri watched in shock as the new lifeform emerged from the tank of energized protodermis. A mixture of a Zyglak, a Vortixx, a Steltian laborer, and the five surviving Piraka, it had been created by the barbaric Skakdi in an elaborate ritual. And now it was free.

It was terrible.

It was beautiful.

Towering 12 feet high, with gleaming golden skin, powerful muscles, and piercing green eyes

From Reign of Shadows, chapter 11.

However your points fair that moc is not for everyone.

edit:

Tbf the GSB does not need to be to scale, just to point out some examples Tahtorak or Zivon

Dang maybe you could make the Piraka of Light?

Yeah I 100% agree. The fact is Bionicle do use system pieces but for like eyes or other small details. Having 9 constration creatures merging into a system character would’ve made him more alien to the Toa Mahri and Skakdi. While I have seen a bunch of great attempts, none of them have ever matched the description of without armor.

Is gold really that rare of a Lego colour? How is this any different than Artakha’s sand green? I didn’t see anyone saying Artakha would create a piece shortage, so why is it an issue here?

No, nobody expects contests for those characters because they were specifically designed to be mysterious, possibly incomprehensible beings.

This is entirely speculative, and should not be used to justify a contest (or lack thereof). Personally, I specifically want him to not have a Piraka head.

This is a pointless statement in many ways.

  • Isn’t every single entry photo just the character standing around doing nothing?

  • The Golden Skinned Being had far more action than Artakha, yet it wasn’t an issue for the latter’s contest

  • How does an art-only contest solve this issue? Regardless of the medium, you still have the “problem” of the character supposedly not doing anything.

At no point have any of these contests relied on the replication of canon scenes. Helryx is just crouching behind a random wall, Artakha’s walking down a hallway, and the Toa Hagah are literally standing around looking good. How is it suddenly a problem that the Golden Skinned Being has less scenes to replicate?

Again, this is completely baseless speculation. Plus, again, the same could be said about Artakha.

How is “muscular” a contest-stopping descriptor? It means he’s big.

You just said that CCBS could be used for skin, which I honestly agree with. The fact that the CCBS system was originally intended to be armour for Hero Factory doesn’t mean that every character that uses it canonically has armour.

Probably about as believable as a character with skin in a largely skinless world. The Golden Skinned Being probably won’t resemble many other Bionicle characters regardless of medium.

Ok, so super dumb thought and this idea will likely be rule 11 dqed(this was never a serious thought) but what if you just took the Toa Mata Nui set, threw away the Gold Ignika(Not literally though) and change the head to something more reptilian and entered that. It would essentially semi canonize the only noncanon titan set released and be tall enough to be believably 12 feet tall. While also being technically gold

I’ll respond to @TheJerminator in a minute, gotta step out but I thought I’d bring this up:

Rubber pieces in the Bionicle are universe 90% of the time tell us if something is organic (Inika Masks, Barraki, Krana, Kraata, Piraka, Shadow Leeches and Squid Ammo).

It was also described as wearing no armor.

Yes and I’d argue the moc doesn’t really meet that description. It doesnt look muscular to me, its only like half gold, looks like it is definitey wearing armor. I also feel like just using the Skakdi head piece is pretty underwhelming. I’d rather use the Irnakk head piece in addition to it than nothing at all

Honestly… not something I’d be terribly opposed to. Maybe flip the shoulder pieces too so it wouldn’t be as obviously Mata Nui.

Although I still think GSB would fair better as an art contest. Its description just doesn’t really seem possible with G1 parts tbh.

Just for reference, a 12 foot tall character in Inika scale would be around 14-15 inches tall, and the Toa Mata Nui set is roughly 13 inches (according to the Lego website).

(I used Inika scale because the Skakdi, the Toa Mahri, Sahmad, and Metus are all Inika-scale)

I mean:

Oh yeah, for sure; it doesn’t have to be to scale with anything, I just figured people would prefer it to be.

And just to be clear, I wasn’t trying to “disprove” the “recycle the Mata Nui set” idea. Just putting it out there.

Although honestly, 13 inches would be close enough to me.
