Canon contest winners 2007/2008/2009 instruction

Still in progress. As soon as I finish the head I will upload the file.

I turned off the display of errors to make it more comfortable to work, so don’t be alarmed when you open the file.

Well, I had problems with head, but I gave it a basic look. Maybe someone will find a good way to connect everything.

I’d like to know who’s doing who and when you’ll be done. I want to take Jacob’s model. It looks simple.

I’ll upload my WIPs in a minute. As far as I’m aware, nobody’s doing that one yet (I’m assuming you mean the Glatorian with the Hahli Mahri wings?).

Finished Zakron and overkill glatorian

As usual, the DCC Zakron was wrong in a surprisingly large number of places, including once again using parts that didn’t exist when the moc was built, and in one case even use a part that has never existed

A couple of notes for overkill Glatorian:

  • The hose piece isn’t flexible in stud.io for some reason, it should plug into his back where it does on Maxilos
  • The Kalmah foot on his chest has been physically modified in the original model, with both side fins cut off, providing clearance for the green claw pieces
  • The green claws on the back of his head are pure speculation. There’s clearly something green and spiky on the back of his head, and Gresh includes four of those claw things, so I took a guess.
  • parts clipping all over the place, this is a very messy model but posed properly he should be fine

Interesting note about that one, his head is totally just a slightly modified Axonn foot. Looks like they just shuffled a couple of parts around, filled in the gap at the front with a small connector, and stuck eyes on it

Which part was that?

Shouldn’t the teeth be silver rather than grey?

This in black

They used it for the bottom of his staff, with interlocked knob gears on every side. No clue how they even came up with such a bizarre and impossible assembly when it’s very obviously just two of these stacked on top of each other

I tried to show more of a possible design than to select colors. Therefore, errors are possible there.

Is this meant to be a thin liftarm or is the part just misplaced?

Oh whoops! That shouldn’t be there. The Piraka armour models don’t have the bar connection points, so I was cheating the vines into place by clipping a connector through the armour, placing the vine and then deleting the connector

I’ll get rid of those and update the model

You can use the connect tool to attach the vines, it’s just that the snapping is a bit dodgy.

I’ll try it out

Though on the note of Zakron, I kinda feel like all three boulders are chained together? There’s no proof in the photo, but I can’t think of any reason the other two would be there otherwise. He’s a prisoner, so I assume it’s meant to be a ball-and-chain setup?

That’d make sense.
So the ones we still have left to finish are:

  • Xyron
  • Zarnak
  • Nick Santoni’s Makuta (the one with the Avsa)
  • Joshua Guthrie’s Makuta (the green one)
  • Jonas Liptak’s Makuta (the one with the Jutlin)
  • Jacob Niggemann’s Glatorian (with the Hahli wings)
  • Aaron Van Morris’ Glatorian (the blue and gold one)
  • Nathan Werth’s Glatorian (the one riding the crab)
  • David Song’s Glatorian (the red one)

and I think most of those have at least been started, with the exception of the Jutlin Makuta and a couple of the Glatorian.

And Piraka Fusion Building 3 model. Danial W, Danial G, Gar and Keane S.

Speaking of which, here’s a better quality scan of those winners.

Admittedly I had wanted to do the Hahli wing Glatorian next, but if pingwing’s taking him I think I’ll go with Jutlin guy

So, something that’s been bothering me: one of the Piraka fusion entries uses a Piraka skull in the creator’s Brickshelf photos, but I’m not sure the actual entry did.

To me, this looks more like a Metru head with the Reidak canister mask held on by a Technic half bush on an axle through the mouth. What do you all think?
There also look to be some other minor differences between the entry and the photos, like a silver Iruini spearhead sticking out of the back and the addition of a pair of Zamor launchers.

Looks like the brickshelf version had some updates made to it

As far as I can tell, only differences are

  • different head on rider
  • rider’s Zamor launchers have been removed
  • dual Chronicler Staffs protruding from the rider’s back on Titan sockets have been removed - though the ball joints to connect them are still there

The setup you theorised for the head seems accurate

The mount also has a pair of Zamors on its knees where the Brickshelf version instead has those Chronicler Staffs that disappeared from the rider’s back.

Good catch! Rider also has different feet by the looks of things

I think those Kohrak-Kal shields on the back of the hands might be replacing the Zamor launchers, because I don’t see them on the submission photo.
Also, is it just me or does one of the others appear to be taking heavy inspiration from the Protocairn?

OK, here’s what I have so far. The Reidak head is obviously wrong, but that’s because I don’t have a model of the canister version. That one will do for now. The main thing giving me trouble right now is the inside of the torso.

Update: I’ve made a start on the mount as well.
