It looks like there might be a Thornax launcher in there, pointing towards the camera?
Edit: ninja’d

The only other thing I’m having trouble with is figuring out how the melded bat wings attach to his hands. It looks like they’d just go on the bottom of the red socket at his wrist, but you can see the technic hole on his left wing doesn’t line up with the wrist at all, seemingly offset by one or two units

Here’s my first attempt at the Glatorian riding the big crab (sans crab).
There’s a couple parts that still need figuring out, like the shoulder-mounted(?) Thornax launchers and that 3l pin behind the Inika armour on the chest.

I haven’t been keeping up with this too much, but I do have a Maxilos sitting right next to me. Is it possible that the wings are connected with some cross-blocks like these?

Alternatively, it could just be picture distortion messing with you.

Not launchers - storage for extra ammunition. There’s silver Metru chest covers attached to the shoulders, with extra Thornax shots held between the cover and the bicep through friction

Ooh, that’s clever. And Kirop blades attached to the top pair of Mahri shoulderpads?

That was my first thought, but it isn’t possible due to the way the wings work

The axle is inaccessible from the side these connectors would theoretically attach

Certainly looks like it! I’m still confused about what’s going on with the back of their head though

I don’t have the wing piece, but from what it looks like a construction like this would work.

Though, the wing looks like it’s angled on a different axis than this construction rotates on.

And here’s some bits of the crab. As far as I can tell the legs are all built the same, so now it’s just a matter of figuring out the body/head construction.
Things I know right off the bat:

  • Gadunka head
  • Shadow Leeches for eyes
  • Spinax spine for teeth, which I don’t think I can do in Studio

There’s a second Takadox armour piece on the top side of each crab arm, very obscured by the foot of the rider but you can barely make it out

The front legs seem to be attached by a second blue Inika torso attached directly to the first one, just judging by their mounting points

I think the eyestalks are something like this.
Edit: Not that way, the other way around.

Other way around for the Takadox armour. You can just make out the slim end facing towards the body

Eyestalks look generally correct, though I can’t tell whether the connectors are angled or not. Might just be the perspective of the picture, as I can’t imagine how you’d get an axle rotated 45 degrees in the Gadunka head

Does this look about right for the second Inika torso? The second(?) pair of legs looks like it’s attached to a hip piece (Inika or Vahki, not sure) in black.
On a second look, what I thought were ball joints might just be the gaps between the Gadunka head and the body.

That looks great!

Personally I can’t see any black whatsoever. I think that’s just gaps in the body, the Gadunka head obscures everything else so we can pretty much just make assumptions. The other two pairs of legs seem to be at roughly the same distance apart as the front pair, so I’d assume it’s just two more Inika or Piraka torsos

I’m not sure where mine is to test this physically, but would something like this work?

Since there’s enough clearance for a Bohrok eye in the original set, that’d work fine

Now, of course, the question is how to attach it to the body. It seems to be raised up a fair bit to make room for the teeth.

Just had another look at Nick Santoni’s Makuta (the one with the Avsa). It looks like Vamprah’s Gali hooks are behind the Hordika legs.

I really wish Brickshelf had a less terrible search function because it’d make trying to find pictures of these builds much easier.

I’ve just stumbled upon another contest that had the runners-up released: the Piraka Fusion contest from 2006.

One of them has more photos, which can be found here.

I think the feet are about the same design

That looks mostly correct, but I think there’s something else under the back of the foot.
