Gundam RX-78-2 High Grade

Lately another kind of buildable action figure has been catching my attention, one that considerably predates Lego’s lines by several decades.
The Bandai Gunpla Model Kits.
To start out my collecting, I figure why not start with the first Gundam, from the original Mobile Suit Gundam series.

I have gotten Bandai branded model kit figures before, like a Sprukit Halo Figure and a Candy Toy/Minipla Go-Buster Ace Megazord, but neither of them have the quality and the detail of this figure.

I personally do not know much about the Gundam franchise as a whole, aside from seeing a few clips on youtube and watching one full episode of Gundam 00, and also researching what I could on various wikis and other websites.
I remember when I was a kid Wal-Mart used to have regular Gundam figures in the stores, and I thought they were cool looking robots that used lightsabers. lol.

Robot is Sith lord confirmed

I’ve never built this kit, bit I’ve built many other kits of the same/higher levels to say this was well built.

I’d also recommend getting panel lining paints for detail.

I did get some Tamiya Weathering packs, just in case I wanted to detail it more.
I just wasn’t sure if adding detail would hinder using it for stop motions.
I'm all about stop motion stuff with practically whatever I get...
Another pic of it under UV light…

It probably would, but it is so worth it…

I might try touching it up a little…but first I might try to animate it first to see how good it is at that.

I’m planning on getting more sets, but since I don’t know much about their respective series, I’ll just get the ones that I think look cool(i.e. Gundam Tryon 3).
I think I’ll stick to High Grades for now, just for the sake of simplicity…and price…

I actually think you’d benefit from the more expensive kits if you want to animate them with their articulation and whatnot.

True.
Master Grades are also just a tad larger scale too…
How about Real Grades? I haven’t looked too much into them.

Edit: I just found a Real Grade Freedom Gundam on sale for about the same price range as the High Grades…should I, or shouldn’t I?

Definitely, if we are both thinking of the same thing, RG Freedom is awesome.

lol okay.
Maybe I’ll just get different types along and along, just to see which ones I like the best.
I’ve ordered two other High Grades already. A Gundam 00 which was relatively cheap, and a Gundam Tryon 3, which was about $35…not the most I’ve payed for a mech figure, but so far the most i’ve payed for a Gundam.

Gah, there’s so many cool looking ones out there…Unicorn…Barbatos…Epyon…Crossbone?

If you have a decent amount of model experience and the proper tools, I personally would recommend the RG Exia.

Heh, model experience, I have a small amount of.
Tools? do paintbrushes and an X-Acto knife sound proper enough? lol.

Hobby cutters and a Hobby Knife, but the latter can be repleace with an X-Acto knife.

Some more stuff to add to the list.
I forgot to mention I do have some Gundam Markers…somewhere…

Oh, and a pair of hobby tweezers for decal application and some sandpaper don’t hurt, either.

Yeah tweezers would definitely come in handy with sticker application as well
I hate stickers on these things. They’re even worse on the Miniplay Go-busters…

I’m not sure if the Freedom RG has the same inner frame as the Aile Strike, but those legs are annoying as hell.

Hey um, I have a small question that’s been bothering me.

What the heck is with the Teddy Bear Gundams?

The Beargguys? Yeah, they’re adorable. I’ve built one, they’re great if you like your model kits adorable.
