If You Could Remove One Character From BIONICLE

for real, I would remove the second hydraxon and keep the first one alive. The original one dying just to have dekar turn into him with the exact memories is pointless.

Remove Matoro definitely. /s

Oh wait, Greg took care of that.

Remove Mata Nui.

Delete BIONICLE.

Start with the Core War.

Oh no, someone we literally didn’t know until now died. What a tragedy ~

I’d argue that the situation with Hydraxon was less about Hydraxon’s character development and more about Dekar’s (as well as the Ignika’s - it’s a character too). It did do truly nothing for Hyrdraxon, but I’d argue it was interesting to see how Dekar literally became another person while still having vestiges of his own memories, and it ultimately (in multiple ways) sets up just how powerful and terrifying the Mask of Life can be.

Velika
or Botar’s replacement. That too.

Also, is this what we should say if we want to revive a dead topic? I feel like that should be a rule.

Yes.

No, Toa Ignika and Mata Nui are characters. The mask itself is not.

Why not?

The mask is Toa Ignika. The Mask of Life has a rudimentary consciousness, and it used its power to create a body for itself to control in Karda Nui.

In the 2008 story, Toa Ignika was not a being wearing the Ignika. It was a body created from plant matter being controlled by the Ignika itself.

I guess so, so yeah the ignika IS a character

I’ve been thinking: is it possible that Greg wrote this with the intention of having revived Hydraxon meet Dekar-Hydraxon in the future? We know he liked to write himself loose threads to deal with later.

Yes, the Red Star’s revival feature wasn’t revealed until 2011, but the idea of someone being in the Red Star was put in place as early as 2007, in the Toa Nuva Blog. You could even argue that the lightning in 2006 was proof that the Star was artificial to some degree. It’s possible that the revival function was planned early enough that the duplicate-Hydraxon plot point was written on purpose.

I kind of want to ask Greg about it now.

I’d remove Teridax. Then things would be interesting.

Firedracax so I’d never have to see that god awful name in official Bionicle material

Vezon. He’s a Joker knockoff without the cruelty, cleverness or cunning.

You sure? It seems like his ā€œdisappearanceā€ was made specifically so that any cruelty of his would occur off-screen.

I’m saying his cruelty is lame. Vezon has the mind of a child pretending to be a Joker like character. Which I don’t think is what Greg was going for.

This is why we gotta dial up the Bionicle rating to PG-13. So Vezon can tie Jaller and Hahli to 55-gallon drums of gasoline and make Takanuve figure out where the trigger is
