Hey, don’t hate on Jerbaz. He had a great set!
I suppose–after all, he takes up no space…
Exactly. Plus, he looks much better than the Av-Matoran.
Why does everyone hate Berix?
Because he’s very annoying in The Legend Reborn, but I agree with you, he gets too much hate.
Overall I would choose one of the useless characters from the 2004 books, like Karzahni (plant), or the “being of protodermis” or the “fire entity”, or Mavrah (I think it’s his name). For quite a bit of time I wasn’t a fan of Krahka (I hope I wrote the name right), but after reading the 2005 books I ended up liking her role. I haven’t read the 2006-2010 books, so there may be other characters I don’t know of, but for now, those are mine.
I also hate him because of his set: A lame av matoran build with no unique helmet. ALSO berix is the ONLY SET EVER to have tabu’s fire sword, aside from tahu mata!! He stole a unique signature weapon, for a stupid recolor that nobody wanted
To be fair though, his helmet was unique to him for the first wave of 2009, and he came with some glorious metru blue mata feet, so he’s not all bad.
I would remove matoro, so he never had died…
Berix. He wasn’t just annoying but he had a very lazy build and made Legend Reborn nearly unwatchable
I’d remove Atakus. I mean, I love those GITD Blades, and the helmet is alright, but the build is just boring all around, even with the colorscheme.
Also, did he have any story relevance?
Not until he was revealed to be an agent of Velika–and even that’s not much. Other than that, he had one non-speaking appearance in a comic. I can’t remember if he showed up in Empire of the Skrall, but I’m leaning towards no.
BADA BING BADA BOOM I RESURRECT THIS TOPIC FROM IT’S DOOM.
the 2016 elemental beasts.
Botar’s replacement. 'Nuff said.
If removing the Alternate Universe double of Tuyet means that she stays dead and doesn’t reappear in Reign of Shadows, I’d do that.
I wouldn’t remove all versions of Tuyet, though, so if that’s kind of cheating I think I’ll have to go with Botar’s Replacement. Blatant plot device of a character, and one of the few who you lose nothing by removing and gain something when you get rid of him.
Close candidate would be the Gold Skinned Being, but because we never saw the conclusion of the character I don’t think it’s fair to do that. There are directions I certainly wouldn’t have enjoyed being taken with it, but also ones that could have been worthwhile.
And definitely keeping Berix and Vezon, I actually liked both of them.
Regarding Velika: I didn’t mind the twist that he was a Great Being, but I didn’t like the idea that he was a murderous, world-dominating Great Being. I feel like that’s more of a character change I would make though - I definitely wouldn’t cut him entirely. Would have preferred if it turned out to be the Cursed GB who wanted to cause havok instead, and Velika fights for the “good guys” in the GB civil war that was hinted at.
Shadow Stealer. His return should have been something frightening, yet he was never a threat to anyone… or even mentioned in the story.
^ This but unironically.
It’s fine to kill off characters, but their deaths need to serve a purpose. Botar was a walking plot device, but maybe have his death be a setback for the Order of Mata Nui. Don’t kill him off just to replace him with a nameless clone of himself.
Remove the island of Mata Nui.
Clean it all, it must be cleaned.
Gresh was cool in the comics.
Probably Botar’s replacement.
Botar’s death was a good plot point. He was a character that the reader was familiar with, but not important enough that his death would have major implications for the rest of the story. His death was a good way to show that the stakes were increasing.
But by introducing his replacement, it doesn’t seem like his death was all that important. Everyone else seems to get by just fine without him. His death gets reduced to just the shock value of having a recognizable name die.
Skimming through the rest of the thread, I saw Velika, Marendar, and the Golden Skinned Being mentioned, all because they were unnecessary, ‘plot twist’ type characters.
But I think that’s a little unfair. When they were each introduced, I am willing to bet that Greg had important roles for each of them. It’s not like they were introduced just for the sake of having new, random characters. It seems a little hasty to say that they should be removed from the story just because the story met a premature end.
The other big one was Berix, because he was annoying. I’ll grant you that, but I don’t think a character should be removed just for being annoying, especially since he was such a minor character.
