When his father King Mata-Nui died, the crown was passed down to his eldest son, Ekimu. But his brother, Makuta grew jealous of the honors bestowed upon him. Makuta betrayed his brother, overthrowing the kingdom and banishing Ekimu to the realm of shadow. Now he sits upon the remains of those who dare oppose him, watching over Okoto with ruthlessness and tyranny; waiting for the day the fabled masters of the elements will fall from the sky to challenge his evil reign.
My goal was to display Makuta as a more grounded villain. While he still lurks in the shadows and uses dark magic to aid in his bidding, he’s not this giant hulking monster. He’s more calculating, conniving, and has minions that do his work for him, opting not to get his hands dirty in most situations because he’s in a position of luxury. His evil can be felt throughout the entire land, but he’s not hiding, in fact he’s very theatrical with his rule over Okoto and sits upon a throne for all to see him in his “glory”.
I really wanted to make something that could stand on it’s own as an actual figure. So it was important to me that each component of his build had solid connections and that he could actually be “played with” without falling apart.
I didn’t even know you could MOC this good!
He definitely has an emperor look to him, maybe the chest should be a normal one in plain gold. And that throne is so cool!
This is what I wanted to do, but as far as I’m aware that piece has not been officially released without any kind of printing on it. I had initially sanded one down to use, but then I read that the modification of official LEGO pieces was against the rules, so I opted with this instead
Amazing. You definitely captured the look of the Makuta you were going for! I love the throne, and I dig the shot of him doing the whole evil Hamletesque monologue thing with Ekimu’s mask. I have a feeling you’ll be one of the winners, considering that you also had the time and parts to make an awesome throne.
Much as I enjoyed some of the bulkier MOCs, I can really see this working for Makuta better, it fits his character more. The piston addon looks a little out of place on the chest, but the overall physique is great and the way you have him seated on that throne (which, in itself, is wonderfully designed) makes him look so intimidating.
Var this is lovely. It’s so smooth and has style and grace. But what really makes me happy is this:
This is something I always want in MOCs. It looks like you pulled it off spectacularly. And the combo of some G1 technic and G2 pieces make this look even more good.
Wow im impressed this moc is awesome, this is probably one of the better Makuta Mocs in the competition that I have seen, all the best! Hopfully Eljay’s mask of victory will finally have a purpose.
The throne is definitely the better of the two. Really captures Makuta’s theatrics.
The actual figure’s…alright? My main beef is the torso. It just looks kinda unfinished and unarmored.
The legs and shoulder spikes look nice though, even if the latter doesn’t seem to serve any purpose beyond making it harder for the poor guy to get through doorways.
