Makuta Marek was a devout follower of Miserix in the earliest days of the Brotherhood’s reign, but when Teridax launched his coup against the Leader, he, like most of his brothers, was seduced by the prospect of power. Though he eagerly carried out his duties at first, Marek soon began to regret his place in the Brotherhood and siding with this traitor. He attempted to assassinate Teridax, but the attempt was thwarted as quickly as it began, and Marek was grievously punished.
However, Marek’s potential usefulness had not yet run dry, so Teridax brought him into his personal laboratory to “reconstruct” him—a purposefully imperfect process that changed Marek in many ways, including restricting most of his Kraata powers and altering his biology such that he can feel pain. Despite these shortcomings, engineered or otherwise, Marek would go on to be a ruthless assassin who specializes in covering his tracks. Despite being outwardly loyal to Teridax, he still harbors resentment towards the Leader and desires to overthrow him. But he knows he can’t do it alone…
