I come bearing great news!
Over the past week, myself and a few other boards members have been analysing and reverse-engineering the Murder-Death-Mobile seen in Faber’s recent video:
We deduced that the initially unknown control unit was actually the same hub used for the prototype Manas! Upon further inspection, it seems like the unit was designed with this contraption in mind, then reused for the Manas later. There’s a lot more to it than that, but it’d take ages to explain… for anyone interested, here’s some of the initial analysis we made:
MDM analysis
The Manas motor hub is just murder-death-mobile’s flipped sideways and given a bit of random greebling on top.
That’s actually really interesting, honestly. It’s shown in the video that the controller for murder-death mobile is just the Manas controller with the yellow replaced by lime… so was murder-death-mobile an incredibly early Manas prototype?
Honestly this actually explains a lot about the Manas. For one thing it explains why there’s extensive gearing to convert the sideways output rotation to an upward rotation to operate the claws, instead of there just being motor outputs on top of the unit to avoid the gearing entirely.
The outputs are where they are because they weren’t designed with the Manas in mind, they were designed to work with the murder-death-mobile.
Oh my god I just realised the Manas prototypes we’ve seen before are using unaltered murder-death-mobile control units!
The most obvious giveaway is that the IR receiver is on one of the short sides of the unit rather than one of the long sides, because the MDM uses the unit vertically rather than horizontally like the Manas do!
I’m honestly freaking out right now, who could’ve guessed that the murder-death-mobile, which originally just seemed to be some silly thing of little consequence, would turn out to have perhaps even greater significance than the prototype McToran arm?
Another interesting thing, in the video the white unit is paired up with the tan/grey controller seen in the Manas prototypes, rather than with the corresponding white controller in the same image. Does this mean there were potentially two murder-death-mobiles?
So, under the assumption that there were two MDMs, I believe the intended play pattern would be to use your giant rotating axes of doom to try and strike the mask of your opponent’s “driver” figure. I’m not entirely sure of the purpose of the hook saw blade thing on the back… it must be for something otherwise they wouldn’t include it, right?
Wait, are your Manas units working?
If so, would you be able to tell me which buttons on the controller control which outputs?
I’m wondering if there’s some correlation to the MDM.
This means that, within the context of the MDM, as it drives forward or backward the hook contraption will spin and as it turns left or right the giant rotating axes of doom will start spinning.
With this new information, I believe that the steering mechanism is also supposed to be used for attacks. I think you’re supposed to drive up alongside your opponent, then steer towards them with your axes flailing.
You can now build your very own MDM, with slight tweaks to account for existing part colours and the retooling done to the Manas chassis:

Now let’s give this thing a story role!
Pretty sure a rock fell on Nuparu’s head and he saw a head(or mask) trauma-induced vision of this thing. After recovering, he built it out of whatever leftover and spare parts he could find. Then, he presented it to the Toa and Turaga.
How do you think they reacted?

They put him in the stocks and, knowing them, probably buried it in a hole and hoped everyone forgot (they did)
