I was a bit unsatisfied with this version of him. He didn’t have any real design aspects that connected him to the element of Air, he had a weak gear function and his weapon didn’t swing in an effective way.
So, I gave him a new gear function that swings both of his arms like the Toa Mata do. Then I added propeller wings on his hips to better visually tie him to his element better. And that was pretty much it, here is the new and improved Rere, evil Toa of Air.
Rere is a member of a toa team that rebelled against Mata Nui. They are a group of Toa that work from the shadows, to suppress and control the Motarain on their island with Rahi and infected Kanohi masks. That is until a new team of Toa show up on the island, and start to save the Matorain from their perils. At which point, the Evil Toa team reveal themselves to fight the new toa directly. This is of course all a plot of Makuta, who pits the two teams against each other for his own ends.
Rere means to fly/glide in Maori, and his color scheme was inspired by Turbo from Throwbots/Slizers. He is a firm believer in his teams rebellion against Mata Nui, and his zeal and loyalty to his fellow Toa is strong. Rere is deemed useful enough that Makuta will let him continue to rebel, unknowingly playing into his scheme.
That’s a clever way to use the Slizer gearbox, I like that you used this more custom design to make the movement faster than normal slizer gearing. The colors are neat too! Where’d the mask come from?
The custom mask fits the overall design very well, and the off-kilter color scheme for a Toa of Air is an interesting idea. I especially like the yellow half gears in the gearbox as they really add to the aesthetic of the build.
I don’t think he looks evil. I think the character Rere looks really awesome with the teals and blues as well as the yellows and blacks. The colors go well together in his build.
Next to Rere, Turaga Whenua looks like he has the best posture in the world!
Anyhow, great MOC. I love the Bone Heads of Voodoo Island aesthetic and the unique silhouette. Rere has a great design, with the short proportions and wings, making him reminiscent of a Toa of Air. Great work, and I hope to see more of your builds!
Pretty cool moc. I like how he actually looks like a toa of air. Some people miss that. I admire his uniqueness, and I think you did a good job. Great work!
