Romance in BIONICLE: Avokan

For those who don’t remember, I made this summary for a continuation fanfic of BIONICLE G1. As the summary states, it starts approximately one year after the Reformation of Spherus Magna. One thing I didn’t mention in the summary is that by that point, Matoran/Toa/Turaga had developed a concept of romance after having it explained by Agori and Glatorian (who had biological reproduction and a concept of romance to begin with). Now, because Matoran, Toa, and Turaga are typically 85% mechanical and therefore lack the required organs for procreation, they feel love dramatically different from Agori and Glatorian. But, this doesn’t impact its significance. As it tends to be with Agori and Glatorian, Matoran/Toa/Turaga relationships are often formed from common interests and matching personalities. Some can last a lifetime while others are a passing fancy. Here are some relationships I can list off the top of my head:

I agree with the sentiment. Love is canon, but wasn’t, and only occurred by accident due to the experiments on the psyche of the GSB inhabitants. Developed on their own, and then recognized later by beings with understanding of love.

It feels a little weird pairing a Matoran with a Toa, outside of the Matoran-Matoran relationships where only one transformed to a Toa. I also think that Takanuva is a rather focused Toa, and likely doesn’t think in this kind of way, but the story is still cute.

Also missing: Norik & Varian, Lesovikk & Nikila (RIP), and Queen & Simp.

In Avokan, Macku becomes a Toa and I have similar plans for Nixie and Vomata. Also, Nuparu had retired from active combat due to an injury he sustained.
