A couple of years ago, I built what I what I thought Dekar and Defilak would look like on Voya Nui, prior to descending to Mahri Nui and having their botched rebuilt forms fixed ( Dekar and Defilak (Pre-Great Cataclysm) ).
As part of a MOC Collab, I revisited the idea with Sarda and Idris, really trying to capture the authentic design of the 2006 Matoran sets. I won’t claim that these are trying to change the game or do anything too innovative, but I am pleased with how they came out. Hope you like them!
I like them a lot–they definitely do capture that Voya Nui Matoran vibe. That said, I do feel like Sarda maybe has a bit too much armor? The silver doesn’t really match the color scheme of your version, and most of the Voya Nui Matoran weren’t quite so bulky. Besides that, though, I think these are great, and they definitely feel like the characters they are meant to depict.
@Zhyndea Thanks for the critique! I tried the design both with and without the extra armor, and I settled on the armor because it just looked better. I also wanted to include something silver to harken to his color scheme from the 2007 set. Your rationale is spot-on, though and I appreciate the feedback!
Every time I see that dk blue Ruru used on a moc I’m reminded how it’s now going for $60…
Regardless, lovely pair of Matoran here. I like the effort to make them feel samey and yet different enough at the same time. And yet, I can’t help but notice that neither of them actually have eyes, even though the edited image implies they do.
@Ghid I edited the eyes in to pay homage to the Voya Nui Matoran set box art doing the same, ah, slightly misleading presentation. I got this Ruru, which is pretty scratched up, for a ‘mere’ $25 a few years ago and I still think I overpaid for it. Thanks for the feedback!
