Swamp Hornet

Insect Rahi which - as their name suggests - live mainly in swampy areas, but can be found generally near lakes, ponds and rivers as well. They are about the size of a Kanohi and live in swarms of 100-200 individuals, buidling their hives in treetops or in other wooden structures.

Swamp Hornets mainly hunt smaller insects, but are known to also use their numbers to overwhelm slightly larger prey. Their weapon of choice are their strong jaws, while the saws at the end of their abdomens are mainly used for cutting material to use in building their hives.

There exist several varieties of Swamp Hornets, distinguished by the differently coloured stripes on their bodies. Varieties don’t mix and a swarm will always consist of only one variety.

Blue Swamp Hornets are calm in nature and will only attack non-prey if their nest is threatened. Matoran consider them as beneficial organisms, since they keep an area relatively clean of small pests.

Yellow Swamp Hornets are considered pests, as they are extremely aggressive and will attack every creature within 20-40 bio of their nest.

Red Swamp Hornets are found exclusively on the Tren Krom Peninsula. While not as aggressive as the yellow variant, their bite is venomous, causing organic tissue to wither away. Multiple untreted bites can thus easily lead to the loss of an entire limb.

Teal Swamp Hornets are like their blue brethren in terms of behavior, except that they don’t feed on their prey immediately, but rather drag it back to their nest where they collect their food in special chambers. They often hunt down more than they need, leading to these chambers often being filled to some extent. Other Rahi use this to their advantage and steal food from the Swamp Hornets.

Finally, after 3 years, I managed to add a body to this head design. Not sure what else to say. So, enjoy!

C&C appreciated!

Actually incorporating the blue pin axel pieces into the color scheme was a nice touch.

Cute and creepy. Don’t ask me why I have no idea. 7/10 The light blue feels a bit out of place

This is a great MOC! I absolutely love how you’ve characterized it in description; narratively, it feels like something that would come out of Bionicle’s early years, and the build evokes that same feeling whilst also being a lot more refined and aesthetically-pleasing. Overall, fantastic work, and I would love to see more like it!

Can’t miss a Gilahu MOC, because they’re all that good. =P

The proportions on this Rahi are surprisingly pleasing, and as per usual the head is great. I really like the legs, though–the thinness and the claws work very well. Overall it reminds me strongly of the mutated Lohrak (I think it was a Lohrak) from Valrahk’s Masks of the Elders RPG, for no other reason than they both live in swamps and are basically giant bugs… but that’s really reaching. =P

Actually…

This is not supposed to be to-scale  . Hence why there’s also no size comparison with the magnifiscent 'Nika Guy. :stuck_out_tongue:

This is great, both the model and the story. I like how they are small by BIONICLE standards, but still giant bugs by real life standards. Description of the varieties is also cool. A suggestion for story: perhaps their Matoran name is Kofo-Kopen to compare their size with Nui-Kopen, just how like there are Nui Jaga and Kofo-Jaga.

This wouldn’t look out of place among the original Rahi sets. It’s a great aesthetic, and you nailed it perfectly.
