So, after too long of having the built arms and legs lying around without a torso, I finally undertook the task of completing Gorast. Which also means I now have 25 Makuta done!
And I immediately remembered why I left things unfinished back in 2023. That torso here has got to be one of the weirdest torso constructions I ever did. The section immediately above the waist is actually constructed at an angle, with another balljoint then reverting that. And fitting that mask on there in combination with making the Mahri claws lign up was another struggle. And I don’t even want to start on balljoint friction.
In summary, this leads to this MOC being not unstable, but certainly a little more prone to accidentally missaligning things by touching it in the wrong place than my usual stuff. The wings are also just barely light enough to not pull over the Mahri claws backwards. Still not sure if the wings were really necessary, but people were in favor of them in my WIP topic, so why not? Guess it’s time to take apart the rest of my Swamp Hornet then, too, though.
Giving Gorast a mace was actually inspired by @Gringat’s MOC which he entered into the Brotherhood Project all the way back (and which I still think is also a very good take on Gorast). Seemed like a fitting weapon for her. I only just recently realized that in her canonical blue titan form, Gorast also wielded a chain mace. I didn’t go for a shield, though, as that did not strike me as really fitting her character. Also, I’m not sure if more silver wouldn’t have hurt the overall look. Black + lime is a very nice combination (and I believe I still have at least 4 black and lime Makuta in front of me… Gorast ate up a lot of my lime pieces here…).
The head also gave me some trouble here. From the side it looks a bit meh, but from the front I think ultimately I did a pretty decent job.

Pretty impressive work! My only critique is the silver leg printing feels extremely out of place on a moc with no other printing and no silver anywhere else on the body, but at least the weapon balances it out a little.
Perfectly valid, but to me it actually almost vanishes against the rest of the MOC. It isn’t really that much of an eye catcher to me, hence why I kept it. Also with the lighting I have above, it kinda also matches the wings, I guess?
Well, I have Jarnat almost finished, but find myself unhappy with a few details again. I also started on Mangiru/Manguopo, but that one is depending on bricklink orders, and lately I just couldn’t find good offers for the stuff I want/need over there (last week I thought I actually found something, but then the store wanted to add like 50% on top for handling/shipping. I’m not paying 20€ alone for handling of like 500 parts.)
Otherwise it comes down to whichever Makuta happens to strike my interest. The only thing I can reasonably exclude for some time is probably a Makuta using lime. After Clanik and Gorast that’s enough lime for some time. I kinda do want to do Bitil, but yellow is such an awkward colour for Bionicle pieces. I don’t feel like my resources are up to it yet.
Another Makuta I could imagine doing relatively soon is Lomois, considering the coat thing I made for that Ihidauri MOC a while ago is intended to be eventually used on him.
