I get this is a joke, but just for clarification:
One: the symptoms of spell sickness can vary
Two: there was a very controlled burn of energy while mako was walking on the water, as opposed to how he was all of a sudden trying to pull a giant wave to drown Dolphus.
Three: this has happened before, and has taken a toll upon mako, so it happening again magnifies the symptoms.

Yeah, that would have probably killed literally everyone there except Mariner and the ghosts, not to mention fry Mako instantaneously from the effort 
So in other words, Dolphus’ hypothesis was correct

Isn’t the mission also kinda secret? They probably wouldn’t want to reveal what they’re planning to do to a stranger who they just met. And especially a stranger who doesn’t seem to be the biggest fan of anything Armada related
