I’m about to make a tragic mistake, aren’t I?
Name: Annabelle Costello, “Iron Belle” (self-proclaimed)
Age: 20
Personality: Annabelle is crafty and ambitious, and puts on a bold persona to make up for her smaller stature. The term “fake it till you make it” can describe her pretty well, though she may not be able to maintain her facade if sufficiently pressed. Behind all her bluster, she is a caring young woman, which led her to begin studying medicine to help her ailing father.
Physical Appearance: Annabelle is roughly 5’7", or 5’10" with the lifters in her boots. She has a fair complexion, a slender build, green eyes, and long, auburn hair typically tied in a chunky braid over her right shoulder.
Currently, she wears an ill-fitting, crimson coat with gold trim she “borrowed” from her father (which is noticeably pinned at the back to fit a little better around the chest and waist), a pale green blouse tucked into white trousers, and similarly “borrowed” and ill-fitting leather boots, likely a couple sizes too large for her.
Weapons: Something similar to this European Sabre
(She’s pretty bad at swordsmanship, but nobody needs to know that…)
Armor: None, though her father’s large coat could probably conceal some sort of breastplate if the need arises.
Job on a ship: Medic/physician
Backstory: Annabelle Costello and her family hail from the Sea Gate. When Annabelle was very young, her mother died of pneumonia, leaving her, her older sister Lillian and her guardsman father Felix Costello to take care of her. When Belle (as her father called her) was 17, Felix fell gravely ill, which left him bedridden. The money her sister made and her father’s pension was barely enough to get by, so she took a job waiting tables at a tavern. And wishing to do more to help her father, she also started studying medicine in her spare time, though she couldn’t afford to attend a medical school.
Recently, while waiting tables at her job, she overheard some drunken sailor’s babble about his fantastical journeys on the high seas and his untold wealth that he had to tell the world about. While the man was clearly three sheets to the wind, and some would say even four sheets, it gave her an idea: if a living pickle like that could be a sailor, she could too and possibly make far more money on the seas than she did at the tavern. She could use the money to attend a medical school to tend to her father herself, but if half of what the intoxicated sailor said was true, she would have more than enough to afford the finest doctors in the world to help her father instead.
When she returned home that night, she decided to go through with her scheme. While her father and sister were asleep, she took her father’s crimson coat, boots, and sword, then penned a note for her family to find in the morning, and set out for the port to find the next ship looking for a new crew member. With enough bravado, she might be able to convince some captain of her worth…
