The Antidermis pool (Gilahu's Brotherhood Project Makuta WIPs)

Yeah, not sure if that’s the right place for some yellow, though. Gotta experiment, I guess.

So… I think next I’m gonna rework Vulon. Though in fact I might redo almost everything completly, because there are a couple things I don’t really like:

  • chest armor
  • head position/upper torso (I’ll try to keep the Stronius helmet even if it’s design is more intended for a slightly hunchbacked build)

→ both together will likely lead to a torso rebuild

  • not too happy with the leg construction
  • really need to reconsider how to do the skirt - in a neutral position, it’s ok, but as soon as I pose the legs significantly, it starts looking very weird because the construction has the hips being located very low to attach the skirt.
But don’t get me wrong, I do want to keep the skirt as well as the Stronius armor over the hips/upper leg. But I might actually redo the cloth piece, too. Got some new cloth over christmas which is a bit thicker than what I’m currently using, but black from both sides. I also have a bit of experience with embroidery now. Perhaps I’ll try something a bit more fancy…

I have to ask: why did he go from being really muscular to being really skinny?

…What do you mean?

Maybe a front shot from the original MOC topic will help. She’s been smoothed out and has a more organic flow in the reinterpretation but not smaller…Well, maybe smaller in one section but the rest is pretty much the same.

Thinking about how this project is still ongoing after making a MOC for it a decade ago

Part of what might make it appear that way is probably simply my building style vs that of the original creator. The armored/muscular look of the original is achieved by large armor parts that leave quite a few gaps (not necessarily in a bad sense).

My own building style I’d say is rather avoiding gaps, and aims for a somewhat smooth overall appearance. Which means I’m less likely to use large armor parts that add bulk.

The original also is a bit larger than my version, I think - not much, but 2-3 units, maybe? That does open up some possibilities for larger armor parts as well.

And lastly, of course, I have my own interpretation of the character to a degree. I’m still aiming for a recognizable revamp, but as you can probably tell from a few of these, I do sometimes also change things just because I want to.

I am thinking about changing up the upper arms as well, though… perhaps I can find a way to get Hordika feet on there. They are kinda tough parts to work with, though, with their odd dimensions and only pin holes for connections.

Technically, the original project goal of assembling 100 Makuta MOCs was achieved… 5 years ago or something? This is now just my personal quest to assemble 100 Makuta as physical MOCs based on the project :stuck_out_tongue:
But yeah, it’s been over 10 years since the start… :old_man:

The complexity of the construction is getting a bit out of hand again, but I think I’m onto something here… Just hope it’s not too hard getting a silver replacement for that tan panel. Or maybe I can still find one in my parts bin. Don’t remember if that second Exo-Toa I got a couple years back was actually missing one panel, or if the missing one was among the other parts I got with it…

I also have a rough idea what I want the skirt to look like this time - maybe without the central piece, though, since that’s technically a separate garment:

I could even give Vulon "hair"if I feel like it at the end… The original did have something to that effect if I remember correctly.

If the legs work, I’ll have to see once I’ve got the skirt.

So, took a while of fiddling around, but I have a full torso build now. The lower back doesn’t look that great, but I’m thinking that I might be able to cover that with the skirt depending on how I design it.

Also not yet sure what arm design to use. I could keep the old one (on the right in the front-view). It doesn’t have the gap above the elbow, but it’s using a friction joint when it doesn’t need to for friction. And those friction joints are not easy to come by these days.
The design on the left with the gap above the elbow at least does nothing the original doesn’t do. And it might kinda still fit in? Though I’m almost tempted to try adding tires. Don’t think I have any fitting ones here with me, though.

And I indeed need to organize a silver replacement for the tan panel on the chest.

So, after a bit of experimenting, I currently have this in terms of a skirt. Also had to change the upper legs again in order to make it fall well over the hips.

Presently, I’m mainly wondering about two things:
a) is the torso part too high? I think it ending below the Nuva armor might look better…
b) should I add a center part or not. I tacked something on in the second picture here to have a rough idea how it could look.

Firstestly, I really like the tan/off color chest piece. Really breaks up the rest of the silver nicely in my opinion. Secondly, I like the center piece alot. It feels like a proper waist cape. Thirdly, I think the chest sits quite nicely, and looks rather dashing.

Sorry to disappoint, but that tan piece is just there because I’m short a silver one

What might be the thing working here is maybe rather the red sticker on it giving a little contrast.
Makes me remember that I do have a bit of cloth with a purple pattern on it… maybe that could be incorporated somehow.

:thinking:The purple plus belt help, don’t they? Might need to add some purple on the sides as well, though. And maybe a center part on the back as well.

Will the Stronius armour pieces be connected by axles on the final build?

They’ll be attached to the skirt, but not the actual build. I’m thinking 2L axles through the cloth with a 3L flat liftarm on the other side. But this will only come at the very end.

Almost done with Vulon. The little cape really rounds things off. Replacement for the chest part should also arrive somewhen next week.

I’m thinking that I need to add some more pink/purple on the front, though. Maybe on the cloth around the neck. The back I’ll probably keep just black.

So, chestplate has been switched out. Now the question becomes what is enough purple. Which of these 3 looks best?

  1. Minimal purple, just on the cloth parts:

  2. Add a bit more on the chest:

  3. Include upper arms as well:

I also might hold on to Vulon for a while before taking final pictures in order to grab Fenerak from storage and revamp him as well. The two of them kinda have to go together, and I have ideas for Fenerak to make him far more bulky. Right now, he’s mostly just tall. And he could need a better head.
This is my old Vulon build and Fenerak together:

I personally like the third one–just enough purple such that it doesn’t feel out of place, and yet it still doesn’t feel excessive.

I’d say either option 1 or option 3 look great.

I also quite like option 3.
