I’ve never seen that “Barraku” poster before, or that specific prototype Kalmah (there’s alot of them, from what I remember). It’s so similar, yet it has yet another squid launcher design, and his mouth is gaping wide open almost comically.
Also, I don’t think it’s an adblocker - I don’t have any and had zero issues accessing it. I just clicked the link and it worked.
UPDATE: To nobody’s surprise, it turns out the people who now own Home Alone actually are Disney. So that answers that.
I think what it is, is that many magazines and newspapers allow you to look at a few articles, and then prevent you from seeing any more until you pay.
Edit: I ended up being able to read it by using the ctrl-a select all shortcut, and ctrl-c copy shortcut before the ‘get a subscription’ message popped up, and then pasting it into a document. I didn’t get all the pictures, though.
Wow came back to 59 replies!
Gotta be honest here haven’t read all of them, but overall thanks for a lot of the nice words and all your passion for the project and what happened to it.
@Pakari (he @'ed me, so I think he specifically wanted an anser from me xD)
I’ve been alsked about the instructions a couple times and I’ll try to find out if I’m allowed to publish them. The model has quite some recolors in the build, so if I can do it, would you want me to release the instructions for the model the way it is, or should I modify it so there are no recolors (which would probably take quites some time and compromises)?
As for all the speculation to why the model was rejected, I sadly can’t tell you any reason behind their decision.
I’ll continue to take it a bit slower online currently, so sorry if I don’t read all the posts and don’t answer to questions, there is no ill will behind that.
@Sokoda Any plans to attempt another project any time soon? Something different, that isn’t a diorama, perhaps? I know that there are plenty of people out there who made their own Bionicle Ideas projects, but in my opinion, your projects have the best presentation.
I think the biggest challenge with creating a Bionicle set that could be presented to LEGO Ideas, is the different viewes everyone have of what Bionicle is about. Some think it’s about the lore and the world it created, some think it’s about the sets and so on. I think the best way to describe Sokoda’s anniversary set idea was that it was more a celebration of Bionicle G1’s lore. It looked amazing, but that could be one of the reason why it wasn’t picked. Because Bionicle G1’s Lore is so big and complex that not a lot of people are gonna know what any of the three locations and events mean or who each of the characters are.
I’m not sure what everyone else would want, but for me, it’s whatever way would be easier for you!
If you can, and want to, release it, I think including the recolors would be fine. We can find our own pieces that will work, even if it might look a little off!
Ultimately, though, I want to leave the decision to you, and there’s no rush to make it! Thanks again for your efforts and this fantastic tribute!
I have some ideas, that I’d love to try, but probably not any time soon. I have not yet started something new and making a quality project takes quite some time.
It doesn’t feel right for me yet to just start a new one immediately, but I wouldn’t say, that I’ll never do one again. I don’t like giving up!
As the greedy parts connoisseur that I am, my vote went to Planet Express Ship. Seinfeld, Typewriter, and TLotB can be mocced relatively inexpensively with common prexisting elements and minimal printing. PES would’ve introduced new wedge elements in sand green. There was a possibility that we even would’ve gotten technic panels and bohrok eyes in sand green for our artakha mocs.
Ok I’ve talked to the Lego ideas people and I am allowed to make all my files, decals… public.
I made a little poll on Twitter and the majority of people wanted me to make instructions first, before releasing the file.
But: I have already made the decals and renders public now and I made a little “Update section” in the original post in this topic with a Google Drive link to those files.
Take note of the little bit of rules I added: Please do not use these in any way to make money with them or in another ideas project!
Alright, I finally finished making the step-by-step instructions for the original project. It was quite some work, because I initially imported this model form LDD into Stud.io, so I had to fix a couple of things up.
I hope the instructions are understandable, as I have never made instructions for a model of that size before.
I also uploaded the Stud.io-file for the model. I took out the Minifigure-masks from the file, because I had to import them into Stud.io, but other then that it’s the complete model.
The instructions and file can now be found in the Google Drive link in the original post of this topic.
As with the decals: Please don’t use these assets to make money with them or to reupload them to ideas. Taking inspirations from them for your own build is of cause no problem.
Also crediting me if you do something with them would be nice
