The Pit of Cobalt's Amateur Pokémon Drawings

I’ve been attempting to draw some more of my favorite Pokémon, and I figured that it would be a good idea to just put them all in one topic now.

First is Fennekin V3. This was sort of commissioned by my aunt who wanted hang one of my drawings on her wall, so I drew this as a Christmas gift for her. Still taking every excuse to avoid drawing eyes at this point.

Next, the best herald of disaster in Pokémon, Absol. I actually tried drawing eyes this time, and I think it turned out acceptably. Also, I had to throw in a nod to one of my favorite Mega Evolutions.

Milotic somehow managed to brute-force its way into becoming one of my favorites, after first getting a special illustration rare Milotic EX card from a random Surging Sparks pack followed swiftly by a full odds shiny Milotic on my second encounter with one in Pokémon Scarlet.

And most recently, the Lilligants. Originally I didn’t have much of an opinion for the Pokémon White counterpart to my beloved Whimsicott (drawing coming later), but I really enjoyed using the Unovan form on my Scarlet team when I chose it to be the team’s Grass Type. Sweeping the Gyms and Champion with Quiver Dance and Petal Dance was really fun, and Hisuian Lilligant was similarly successful in Legends Arceus.

In conclusion: still not great at drawing, but I keep trying anyway for some reason :sunglasses:

Those Lilligants are pretty good. Keep at it, the colors are particularly eye-catching!

New addition. Some Pokémon are my favorites because they’re cute (like Fennekin and Whimsicott), and others because they’re incredibly cool (Aegislash, Absol, and Aggron), plus Milotic through brute force. But some are a favorite because “I just think they’re neat.” Enter Clawitzer:

What’s not to love about a Pistol Shrimp dialed up to 11?

I acknowledge that I messed up the back of the claw…

Next up, Popplio with the best type of sunglasses:

While Primarina’s design isn’t exactly my taste, I used it in my Pokémon Sun playthrough to save my favorite Gen 7 starter, Rowlet, for an Ultra Moon playthrough (which still hasn’t happened). I was genuinely surprised with how good Primarina was. Plus it gets really good coverage moves as a bonus.

Anyway, the context for the sunglasses is simple.
I found a life-sized Popplio plush at a thrift store, and I thought it would be funny to put an old, scratched-up pair of aviator sunglasses on it. That’s it. That’s the entire context.

This is so cute.

The continuation of Popplio with sunglasses. The thought of the opera sea lion/mermaid with aviators was too funny to not draw at some point. I wasn’t sure if the sunglasses made Primarina look cooler or cuter, but the consensus I’ve seen is that it’s both. She also has a Mystic Water item that only exists to hang her sunglasses off of.

Do you do any sketch work for drawing these, or is it straight from reference to lineart?

Mostly from reference sadly because I am cringe and can’t actually draw (I currently stink at proportions and perspective), but I’m trying to work on that. Hence “Mediocre” in the title.

I am ashamed. I forgot I chose “Amateur” over “Mediocre” for the title. I am a disgrace :pensive:

The Primarina looks so cool. Say can you do a Hydrapple next?

Sorry, but I have a pretty long list of Pokémon I’m planning on drawing already, so I won’t be able to take requests at this moment. Hydrapple is a neat Pokémon though, so maybe I’ll get around to it at some point.

How did you determine your list? With how many various forms and modes, it’s easily overwhelming!

It’s pretty much just a list of my personal favorites. Whether it’s because they’re cool, cute, or they proved themselves on a playthrough team (or through sheer brute force), there are several very different Pokémon that I’d consider favorites (like Aegislash and Comfey, for an example). And that of course results in a pretty varied list of subjects which should be fun to draw for practice.

I decided that after drawing a couple cuter Pokémon, I should draw something more on the “cool” side. So, I decided to draw one of my favorite Dragon Types, Kingdra. You can see my preference towards Water Type Pokémon with my drawings…

This is beautiful. Say will you do Mega evolved Pokemon later on?

Probably. A lot of them will be kind of difficult to draw from how detailed they tend to be, but I have to draw Mega Absol and Beedrill at some point.

What about Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y? They are actual Mega Evolved forms for Raichu. Also If you did not know they are from Legends Z~A.
