As you probably know, there has been a lot of discussion and fan art through the years about Romantic Relationships, but very little on the subject of Family relationships. (Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, etc.) Way back in the early days, Romance was declared Non-Cannon by Greg, and so characters setting down and having families was out of the question. Also, the Toa often refer to each other as “Brother” or “Sister”, but this title is more honorific than literal. And lastly, most characters (like the Matoran) were built not born.
So now that I’ve shown that literal Family relationships don’t really exist in Gen1, lets theorize about if they did exist. Who do you think would be related to whom.
We could say that the Toa Metru are the sons and daughter of Toa Lihkan, with Tuyet being that one crazy aunt that the family avoids and Nidhiki the uncle that comes to Lihkan for his money.
Jaller and Takua are brothers, Hahli and Macku and Kotu are sisters, Hewkii and Hafu are brothers, and so on. Maybe the Toa Nuva are their parents too.
You see, the Turaga on Mata Nui, (Vakama, Nokama, Onewa, etc…) are the parents of all Matoran on Mata Nui (Except Takua. And they hired the Toa Nuva to protect the kids from their crazy pets and the evil great Grandfather
Dume is the “get of my lawn” grandpa.
Lessovik is the homeless guy on the street.
Sidorak is the stuck up rich neighbor with a bug collection.
Roodaka is just his gold digger girlfriend.
Gresh is the nice cousin no one likes.
Takanuva is the favorite child because he is the youngest.
