On the general platform. For example, why make red axles instead or orange or green?

I’m not toothdominoes but I guess it has something to with the fact that red, blue, yellow, etc. are primary colors, while the same can’t be said about orange or green. What’s more, they’re also some of the most basic and oldest colors from TLG’s official color palette.

The individual designers have no say in that, decisions like this are decided by a model quality forum, on which there are multiple senior designers. These colors were likely picked because they are the most generic colors we have yet they stand out in a pile. Had we made them something weird like 321 (dark azure) it would stick out more on the models because it is a more uncommon color.

Another plus for having them in a common color is that they can be used for detailing like on the Bucket Wheel Excavator (42055).
