Avlotua and Lulotua's Hagah, the Toa Purehi

The Makuta Sisters’ chosen Hagah were each loyal and kind-hearted Toa, keepers of peace and advocates of unity. Few threats really came to the island of Purehi, and so the Toa Hagah could share a more active role among the Matoran community itself, though still occasionally training to be prepared if and when threats did arrive. After Lulotua’s fall to darkness, these Toa would be sent on a difficult journey to not only seek refuge for themselves and their Matoran, but also to find Avlotua after the good-intentioned Makuta went missing. However, they would at least find a couple more allies along the way.

Toa Twaila, leader of Avlotua and Lulotua’s Toa Hagah team. The diligent Toa of Psionics was known for her extremely detailed note taking, assisted in her record keeping by her cherished friend Spaigi. The Su-Matoran was then tasked as the team’s official Chronicler, keeping track of the team’s efforts and exploits with his Holorecord Tablet.

During the last confrontation with Makuta Lulotua’s dark persona, Kralutura (after the Toa had found and freed Avlotua, then tracked Lulotua to her current location), Twaila was knocked into the lake of Energized Protodermis on the Southern Island where Makuta Mutrunex’s lab was stationed. Fortunately, the substance of destiny chose to transform the noble and compassionate Toa into a Toa Nuva, with a pair of natural wings similar to Makuta Avlotua who she admired greatly. Twaila’s Mask of Conjuring was enhanced with the ability to be programmed mentally, without having to utter the power’s description out loud and letting her cancel powers early to quickly program another. It still retained its reforged shape, however, as she had a strong tie to the Toa she honored with it.

Twaila’s Toa Tool was once the Caster Staff, a staff forged from another Mask of Conjuring to give her a second set of programmable powers, while also having a function to cancel a programmed power to prepare another one faster. It was transformed into the Manifest Scepter upon becoming a Toa Nuva, and likewise made able to be mentally activated by Twaila Nuva.

Ayjak, Toa of Stone and deputy leader of Avlotua and Lulotua’s Hagah team. She is a strong, practical, and honest-hearted Toa, who’s value for honesty was reflected in her choice of mask- a reforged Kanohi Rode. Ayjak wields a reliable Lasso that holds the same composition and durability as a steel cable, and can be alternatively used as a flail by channeling Ayjak’s stone element to create a large stone chunk inside the Lasso’s loop.

Filayai, the shy but kind-hearted Toa of Plantlife. Filayai is very softspoken and prefers to avoid conflict whenever possible, but she will stand up for her fellow Toa and her dear Matoran and Rahi if ever they are threatened without hesitation. She wears a Rau shaped like a mask of Healing as a symbol of her natural medical knowledge, and uses it to communicate with the Rahi she took very good care of back on the island of Purehi. In battle, she uses it to command other Rahi rallied to her via her Staff of Summoning, similar to that of Makuta Beres’ who Filayai occasionally learned Rahi knowledge from, before the Makuta disappeared during the Great Cataclysm.

Among Filayai’s favorite Rahi were the Flutterflies, butterfly-like Rahi with hollow wings that generated air (similar to a Dyson fan) for hovering flight. A swarm of Flutterflies can create enough of a wind current to gust or carry away unwelcome Matoran and Rahi roughly around the same size as a Matoran.

Belrara, Avlotua and Lulotua’s Toa Hagah of Ice. Hailing from Metru Nui, Belrara was one of the few sociable Ko-Matoran, and focused more so on giving to the community than studying in the Knowledge Towers. She was well known for selling luxurious woven fabrics and robes worn by some Matoran and even Toa and Turaga.

As a Toa Hagah, Belrara wore a reforged Matatu and wielded the Crystallization Spear, which could form gem-like shards of ice around surfaces and objects or as projectiles. Unfortunately, sometime during the team’s journeys trying to find the missing Avlotua, Belrara was attacked by Shadow Leeches that drained her of a large portion of inner light.

Cursed as a partial Shadow Toa of “Blackice,” she began to doubt that her sisters still viewed her the same way, and gained a more cold, aggressive, and at worst sadistic nature when fighting alongside them. Thankfully, when the Toa Purehi as they’d renamed themselves finally found and rescued Avlotua, Belrara was able to be cured by the Makuta of Light’s Power Scream ability which broke the Shadow Toa’s mental barrier.

Kamena, Toa of Earth. Kamena originally worked as a Quarry Worker in the rough land of the Tren Krom Peninsula, until one day she uncovered a hidden Toa Stone buried within the rocks. Her transformation into a Toa greatly overjoyed her, and she sought to spread that joy across the world until she wound up on the island of Purehi and chose to make it her new home.

Her bright and cheery personality made her an easy pick for Avlotua’s Hagah team, knowing Kamena easily helped keep the Matoran of Purehi happy and positive, and Kamena was given metallic bright blue armor as well as had her naturally dull sand-red armor polished to rose gold. Even when sent on the run after Lulotula’s fall to darkness, Kamena did all she could to keep her sister Toa positive and hopeful, even more so to Belrara when she was infected by the Shadow Leech attack.

At some point during the team’s travels trying to find the missing Avlotua, Kamena came across the reclusive Nynrah Ghosts and was able to trade her Mud Bomb Cannon for a weapon she’d later come to know as a Midak Skyblaster. Similarly in the past, Kamena had traded the Pakari she wore as a Matoran for a Prekel, Mask of Forewarning (which works essentially the same as Spider-Sense), and had it reforged in the shape of a Mohtrek as Kamena stated it looked as though the mask was smiling.

Reidasi, the hot-headed but loyal Toa of Air and final member of Avlotua and Lulotua’s original Toa Hagah team. Reidasi once lived as a Matoran on the island that the former Toa of Air from Jovan’s team, Jei, settled on as a Turaga, and Reidasi received her Toa Stone directly from him. Awestruck by his past heroics and extremely agile speed, Reidasi donned a Kakama like his own and fitted herself with mobile Aero Wings to try and become just as fast as Jei was and the fastest flier the Matoran Universe had ever seen. While she may not have achieved that dream, and though she tends to rush into action without thinking, she still values her duty as a Toa and was chosen to aid in the protection of the Matoran of Purehi.

As a Toa Hagah, Reidasi was gifted with a Weather Spear, modified by Avlotua from a Rahkshi staff of Weather Control to allow Reidasi to utilize its capabilities alongside her elemental power of air. Despite all the obstacles, challenges, and hardships she and her sister Toa have faced while on the run since the Hagah Purge, Reidasi stood form in her vow to never abandon her team.

Speaking of such obstacles, two of them were formerly as follows:

Shinsei, a Toa of Fire that the corrupted Makuta Kralutura came across and decided to use as an instrument for tracking her rogue Toa Hagah. Using a spare Kanohi Avsa, Kralutura completely drained Shinsei of her inner light after capturing her, and augmented her body with wings and clawed fingers as an added edge. With the Makuta herself being unable to continue seeking for her old Hagah team due to Teridax’s orders, the corrupted Shinsei served as a dark agent that could hunt the Toa freely, and report back to Kralutura as needed.

Thankfully, Shinsei’s last attack on the Toa Purehi wound up being when they snuck onto Destral to find and free Avlotua, and the Makuta of Light was able to intercept Shinsei and cure her of her corruption like she did Belrara. Due to the extensiveness of Shinsei’s corruption, more than just Avlotua’s Power Scream was required to cleanse the Toa, and an added infusion of light not only cured Shinsei but infused a portion of light energy into her element of Fire. Her wings thus became radiant wings of pure flame, and her Sun Sword burned far brighter than before.

As a show of gratitude for this healing, Shinsei soon had her Mask of History (which allows her to view any memories of another being through contact or from deep within Shinsei’s own subconscious) forged in the shape of Avlotua’s Kanohi.

On the other hand, there was Glymna, a Ce-Matoran who’d lost her faith in Toa. Believing all the Toa who originated from her home on the harsh Tren Krom Peninsula had abandoned her and the other Matoran living there, she was particularly hurt when her close friend, Sukaru, left on a mission and never returned home. As such, Glymna mistakenly came to view all Toa as selfish and untrustworthy, and would become quite the nuisance to the Toa Purehi who happened to encounter her during their travels on the run from Kralutura and Shinsei. Glymna would often try to attack or as least drive the Toa away from her home, and rather than leave the Matoran to fend for herself, Twaila was moved with pity to try and understand why Glymna acted the way she did, and prove to the bitter Ce-Matoran that Twaila and her sisters were true Toa-heroes.

Thanks to the Toa of Psionics’ ability to link her mind with Glymna and share her memories of all their valiant efforts, Glymna was eventually helped to change her mind about Toa as a whole, that not all Toa were selfish and traitorous like those such as Nidhiki. And as a show of good faith, Twaila even gave Glymna a Toa Stone of her own making, which activated during a later attack from the corrupted Shinsei and transformed Glymna into a Toa of Psionics.

The neuroshock staff weapon she carried as a Matoran was split and transformed into a Rhotuka Launching Staff and an Elemental Beam Sword of Psionics, her Rhotuka power manifesting as a spinner that Neutralizes a being’s powers temporarily. During her transformation, Glymna also influenced her Mask of Conjuring to take the shape of Sukaru’s Kanohi Lux, Mask of Kanohi Replication, with the hope in mind that her old friend didn’t truly abandon her but rather was kept from returning home against his will. Ever since Glymna has remained a member of the Toa Purehi to learn what it truly means to be a hero, and hopefully one day find her lost friend. That day, thankfully, would finally come years later.

So here’s what happened- Sukaru was a Toa of Plasma native to the Tren Krom Peninsula and a close friend of Glymna’s. With the few Toa that lived there leaving the land for one reason or another, Sukaru made a promise to Glymna not to abandon his home once he became a Toa himself, remaining as one of its sole guardians.

Sukaru would frequently set out on patrols past the peninsula and to the rest of the Northern Continent, careful to avoid Makuta Gorast’s territory but occasionally stumbling into trouble. Glymna tended to worry whenever Sukaru left on these patrols, but trusted him to always return home. Until one day, a routine patrol put him in the path of a band of Dark Hunters escaping the Toa-Dark Hunter War on Metru Nui, and disgruntled at their defeat there the Hunters ganged up on Sukaru and overwhelmed him.

Sukaru was defeated and captured, brought before the Shadowed One as a way for the Hunters to appease their boss for their failure at Metru Nui, and the intrigued leader chose to keep the Toa as another trophy next to Varian in his row of Stasis Tubes. This started a new “hobby” of sorts for the Shadowed One to start collecting prized Toa captives and keeping them on twisted display.

It wouldn’t be for many years, after the reformation of Spherus Magna, that Sukaru would see the light of day again, when a large army of Toa would finally locate and strike the Dark Hunters new base of operations in a massive raid. Together, they freed all their stolen brothers and sisters and sent any escaping Dark Hunters and the Shadowed One himself on the run, much to Darkness’ disappointment.

Sukaru now serves as the final member of the full Toa Purehi alongside his old friend Glymna, who was relieved to reunite with him and confirm he never meant to leave her behind all those years ago. Sukaru wields an Elemental Plasma Beam Pike, and his Kanohi Lux allows him to copy and Replicate the mask powers of other active Kanohi nearby him, able to retain only the noble level of 12 mask powers at a time. Sukaru can then access only one of these powers at a time, and any new mask power he wants to retain must replace an existing one if the maximum of 12 powers is already reached.

And that concludes my super long breakdown on Avlotua and Lulotua’s Toa Hagah! Jeez this was a lot, I thought way too in depth about their lore and how it fits into my altered Bionicle canon. And this isn’t the first or the last time I’ll get way too into details I spent way too much time and effort thinking about.

This was a great read! I love the integration of the characters into Bionicle and making Kamena a po-matoran was clever.

Is this purple/lime Matoran meant to be a reference to the special Matoran in the GameBoy game?

It’s meant to be Spike from Mlp

Sigh, I can look but I’ll never have those wings since he isn’t selling digital parts anymore :frowning:

Is that cloak one of yours Kardas? cus I love it and I really want it haha

Indeed, I got a number of scaled up minifigure capes in the main pack, “Kardas’ Hoard.” You’ll have to play around with the actual XYZ coordinates to get it to look right in Stud.io tho, connection point is pretty limited
