I’m all for conserving parts and finding creative ways to use pieces, but I do think some new molds could have benefited this wave. Stuff like the legs, jaw or mask variations, new feet, a slime esque addon, etc.

It’s odd that so many people just want more, more, more to me. A set with more parts isn’t automatically any better looking or more cohesive than a set with fewer new parts. Also, from what it seems the Winter and Summer waves are made at around the same time during the development process. This can be supported by the fact that both the Winter AND the Summer wave names were leaked together. This suggests that rather than their being a parts budget for two waves, the parts budget is used for both simultaneously. At the time it was more important to focus new molds and recolors on the Winter Wave, and my gosh did we get a lot of new molds and recolors. Recolors aren’t free y’know.
I personally prefer old parts to be used in new ways.

I’m honestly fine with the beast’s legs. They give a more animalistic look, and it probably saved budget to allow more to be put into the functions and aesthetics.

See, I disagree with this completely. Not only did they use old pieces and recently introduced pieces to create interesting functions unique to each of them, they create builds as cohesive as a $15 price tag will allow. I really wish LEGO would show us the requirements for creating a $15 set, so that people could see that there’s a lot to take into account, whether it’s recolors or parts limitations.

Yes but this wave does it more.
I.E. there is more of a given rare color per set than the wave you sited.
In fact the ones you sited had more black/grey than other colors.

Umarak TD: Same thing, no rare recolors here
Lava Beast: One single piece with new but outstanding color “smoke black”, official name transparent brown
Quake Beast: Purple and transpurple aren’t rare given today’s palette but they aren’t that common either. Only counts as uncommon and only recolor of transpurple isn’t an existing mold even.
Storm Beast: Metru Blue, rest of the colors are super common

Compare that to the wave you sited and the results are less favorable.
The only one that had uncommon colors was Scarox but even so those colors have become dirt common after 2015.
At least these have yet to see major prominence.

The colors aren’t that rare, the pieces they are used on are. Glatorian necks have only had 3 colors, and LB has a new one. The Skull Spider claw pieces were only gunmetal until now, fire crystal blades were only available in silver, now in black.
