Blessings of Astrea | Signups and Discussion

Once, the sun and moon set in the sky exactly at the same hour, held in equal congregation, and reverence, set upon their works. Descending upon the people of man and woman, they stood as gods and goddesses, Sol and Solar, Lun and Luna, and gave their gifts upon humanity. They gave their very holy ichor, that which ran through their veins, into silver and gold chalices, of which they gave to their own followers, and imbued those who imbibed the substance a most gracious of powers.

Those of the moon, fast and agile, gave their worshippers they anointed the strength of tens, an army of knights, their armor emblazoned with the waning and waxing of the moon.

They of the sun, their fire undying, bequeathed upon their chosen peoples everlasting power and beauty, as bright and as shining as the star itself. The fire was theirs to control and use, to heal and protect.

As long as humanity drank from the cups of the moon and sun, there would never be a lack of patrons to the gods and goddesses.

But there was another. A comet. It smashed into the earth, triggering a cataclysm that shook the heavens themselves.

From the impact, rose a wretched figure. A deformed creature. Obol. It wandered the earth, looking at the sights and creations of the Moon and Sun with envy, and wanted to create a line of its own. And so It attempted to bless a few, unfortunate souls, but the creatures touch did not bless them, it twisted them, corrupting their bodies and minds, and Obol with wanting to spread its ‘gift’, to create more, horrid monstrosities, the great and holy Ones intervened on behalf of all humanity, destroying Obols form and scattering his mind to the winds. And thus, the Three Kingdoms rejoiced in peace again, grateful their gods had once again saved them, and they raised glasses, to new generations of peace!

Welcome to Astrea, land of the blessed and cursed. It has been 205 years since the downfall of Obol, and his subsequent dismantling. The Three Kingdoms, Eclipse, Flare, and Tide are in the midst of their annual celebration: The Great Blessing. It is then, led by the greatest and most devoted heads of their respected sects, that those that the gods favor are selected to be blessed with their great power. To drink of their blood, or, rarer still, to be granted their holy touch and presence. And you, you are among their number, to be granted this wonderful gift!

But not all is so grandiose and joyous. The few of the Comet still remain, still wandering the land, and somewhere, It stirs…as it will become whole.

Blessings: Which god has chosen you? (P.S. If you leave it blank, I’ll choose for you.)

Trivia:

Gods and Goddesses:

The most holy of existences. There is one other god of Astrea, besides those of the Sun and Moon.

Sol and Solar:
The twins of the sun, the two are inseparable. They’ve been with each other for their entire existences, and as such will continue for eternity. Sol is stern and unyielding while his counterpart Solar is warm and caring, both countering each other out. However, when they get into disputes, it can take days to settle them, as they continue their petty squabbles well into the day. They are the eternal twins, everlasting in their endless cycles, forever present, yet not always watchful. They and the Moon Lovers were the first to bless humanity with their gifts, creating the Ray Bringers, their great cause, imbuing them with holy fire and youth.

Lun and Luna:
The married couple. The two are deeply affectionate for each other. Lun is a mischievous trickster who messes with all manner of moon related activities, leading to his wiry and swift form, while Luna is strong and ever watching, gazing upon the earth and watching for Lun’s next disaster. They are the two lovers, the two halves of the moon that changes constantly, and with it, Lun’s severity of tricks and Luna’s moods. They brought about the Knights of Lunar, trained with Lun’s swiftness and Lunas strength, fickle yet powerful, unpredictable, yet reliable, known to always appear to make it count.

Ombre:
The manifestation of the space between, Ombre is the calm, the empty. He follows wherever the other four go, always one step behind them. He is constantly quiet, and his appearance means either too little, or too much. He is never truly present, always somewhat scattered with his thoughts and minds. It is said that his followers are always followed by him, his presence clinging to them to hide them from Luna’s gaze. He is secretive, and stubborn, rarely giving up his information without a price. Those blessed by him are given the ability to meld into the shadows, and move undetected.

Factions:

The Ray Bringers: The great and graceful priests of the Sun, devout worshippers who bring their beauty and light to those who seek it. They are headed by Shidris of Eclipse, a profoundly devout blessed of Solar, whose conviction and words have seeded the minds of hundreds. They have continued Sol’s works, continuing to scatter Obols memories and collective thoughts.

The Knights Of Lune:
Valiant knights dressed in great armor, trained in the ways of blade and of strength.
They are fiercely loyal to their gods, Lun and Lunar, and will not hesitate to take extreme measures against any and all who dare sully the names of them. They slay the monstrosities of Obol, and have become adept at cleansing the horrid abberations with an almost inhuman ease.

The Painters of Shades:
The wills of Ombre, they carry out his acts and commit deeds in his name, operating from the shadows. They observe the other factions, detached from the mainline of society. Each of them is sworn to secrecy, and to void such an oath is death in and of itself. In the past they have started to collect and catalogue the past conflicts and deals of the gods, at Ombre’s behest, for whatever reasons he may have. The head of their group is yet to be revealed, as they are not a public group.

Children of the Comet:
Monsters. Corrupted beings, sullied by Obol’s touch and blood, their forms warped into wild creatures of all sorts of twisted forms imaginable. From beings with an uncountable number of wings and eyes, to monsters wreathed in tentacles, no two are ever truly alike in any sense.
Those, however, who have been corrupted the longest, start to grow flower like structures all over their body, the flowers thought by some to continue Obol’s corrupt touch and blessing.

Blessings:

Blessing of Sol and Solar:
Gain the power of fire, able to control it. Also gain a more youthful appearance in addition.
However, one becomes weaker when cooled.

Blessing of Lun and Luna:
Granted enhanced strength and speed, along with heightened vision.

Blessing of Ombre:
Gain the ability to meld into shadows, and walk within them without mostly being detected.
However, people can still hear you footsteps, and any bright light source will dampen the blessing.

Rules:
All general rules apply. Don’t be rude, don’t swear, and don’t double post.

For any NOT versed well with RP etiquette, or are just bored with your usual writing.

WARNING: 1 Character per person please and thank you.

I want at a minimum 3 players, hoping for 5-6. Not too many, just enough.

TIPS:
This is a medieval/dark fantasy look, but the main theme is still a bit undecided, as it has bits and pieces of everything. So get creative with your characters, if you can, please.

Sounds like certain corrupted beings from a popular game franchise…

I will have to think about joining! The plot sounds neat, as it’s much more D&D-style compared to some of the other active RPs.

Name: Setara Hillcrest

Age: 22

Appearance: Setara is around 5’5" with an athletic build per her knight training and has fair white skin. She has wavy, champagne-colored hair that reaches just past her shoulders and is often put up in a simple bun to keep it out of the way. Her eyes are pearl whitish-pink in color, with long and curved dark champagne eyebrows, and a heart-shaped face.

Often seen in her knightly full-plate armor. What separates her set from other Knights of Lune is her helmet. It is shaped more like a conical or witch hat, with a wide brim that goes down in a tapered curve and partially obscures the upper half of the face. On top and in the center of the helmet is a lantern, which burns oil when lit. Covering part of the lantern’s top is a small sack of sort, which gives the helm its pointed witch hat appearance.

The helmet’s top is as smooth and shiny as the metal allows, causing bright moonlight and the lantern’s light to shine as a brighter ball of fire from a distance. As well as cast light all around her while keeping herself veiled in shadow. Though the rest of her armor is intended to reflect and shine like the moons, she often wears a dark blue surcoat or scapular to obscure it some to emphasize the light of the helmet.

When not in her armor, she’s usually wearing simple dresses in her family’s colors of red and orangey-yellow and cream aprons.

Personality: A hopeless idealist wishing for safety, justice, and goodwill. The past several years working the night patrols has opened her eyes to the atrocities some commit, she believes her good work can change this. Enjoys frightening and outsmarting criminals and, if honest with herself, her friends too.

History/Bio: Setara’s family has long been devoted followers of the sun gods, desiring to be a shining example as their deities. Their daughter, however, has found the moons and their valor against the comet more admirable and has devoted her life to become a Knight of Lune. Whether she is a full knight now depends on the age/training requirements. But for now she does serve as a night watchman for her city and goes on frequent patrols.

Equipment/Weapons: As previously stated, Setara wears a set of plate armor and has a helmet with a built-in lantern. When she wants the hide the lantern’s light, though not put the light out, she can pull on a set of two strings to bring the sack down and cover the lantern. The cloth is thick and dark enough to block out the light. Though is she wants the light again, she’ll need to take off the helmet and pull the sack back into place.

Weapon wise, her primary one is a staff that’s about seven feet long. The ends of it are cylinders of solid metal, a few inches long each, with various metal studs and rings following past those. It is a long, almost mace like club to put it simply. Aside from this, she does have a sword ready to be drawn on her left side and a small shield. She also has a horn for alerting people.

Blessings: Ombre

Trivia: She has a fondness for frogs and has about five of them living in a small terrarium at home. Sometimes she brings them along during patrols or catches a new one and tries to get them to croak into the horn. Especially to scare off ne’er-do-wells from the unusual sounds.

Sometimes she’ll knock her staff on window shutters or doors for people she knows are supposed to be up early.

She’s a night owl by nature, making the watchman job easier. Though when she has to help her family’s trade in the early morning, it’s rough.

Quotes:

“The moons’ gaze can see your deeds, the darkness cannot hide them.”

Name: Terbor Heimer

Gender: Male

Age: 35

Appearance: 6’1” with dark brown well kept hair, brown eyes and a short beard. He has an athletic build with broad shoulders. There are many scars on his hands and forearms (due to his experiments)

Personality: Confident with narcissistic tendencies, Terbor learned from an early age that if you wanted something done right, you had to do it yourself.

History/Bio: Tebor was born into the house Heimer. Despite his father being a priest and his mother a temple attendant, his family is still considered “low-born”, and from a very young age; he has resented the nobles for how they treated him and his family. When it was not his family’s time to serve in the temple, his father Shem would work with the local blade smiths guild to earn extra money, sometimes bringing Tebor along to watch and learn from him as be stoked the bellows, sharpened the tools and eventually evening learning to shape and forge steel.
His mother Elena would tutor the children of nobles, focusing on literature (reading/writing) and mathematics. Being of lowly status, he was forbidden to attend the classes of the nobles; but being a cunning woman; Elena would have Tebor “assist” her by carrying her books and other various teaching articles, making sure their hosts knew that he would not be in the same room as their children, ( but she always made sure Tebor was within ear shot of the lessons all the same).
Tebor was a quick learner, and his natural curiosity helped drive him to put his “education” to work. When he was old enough to withstand the heat of the forge, he would help his father with the forging of weapons and his mother in her literature. His appetite for knowledge eventually outgrew his parent’s ability to hide, as he was caught hiding in the bushes of the local university - listening in on the lectures.
Officially, he was jailed and beaten for trespassing; but he knew it was because he dared step outside the realm of being a lowborn.
He refused to stop; working as a laborer to earn money - he would purchase books from traveling merchants from distant lands. He soon mastered chemistry.

One day (in his 20s) he convinced the sages of the blade smiths guild to allow him access to a forge. He spent months experimenting with different types of metals and various items that he purchased from the surrounding towns and merchants.
Tebor would lock himself in the forge for days on end, sparking rumors and fantastical tales.
After a year of trial and error, Tebor rushed out of the forge and into the courtyard where the apprentices tested their blades. Interrupting their activities, be began clearing the yard and setup practice dummies.

The commotion attracted the attention of the guild leaders and teachers alike. Curious, some assumed he had finally gone mad, suggesting that he was nothing more than low born scum that needed to be removed.

Just as the guards were called to escort him from the premises, he removed a clothe from a small wooden trunk and declared that he had forged a weapon greater than the sword of Sol.
This enraged the nobles, especially the house to whom the sword belonged. But the elder sages decided to give him a chance to prove himself.

Opening the trunk, he removed an odd shaped object made of steel and wood, ornamental designs of gold and silver entwined the object.

Silence filled the courtyard as he stood and pointed the object at one of the practice dummies. With a thunderous noise, a massive fireball flared from the end of the weapon, passing through the armor of the dummy and splintering wood that held it in place. The blast destroyed the weapon, ruining his prototype in the process.

The silence turned to cries of rage, the elders and nobles alike demanding he be thrown from the guild and beheaded; many believing he was in league with Obol. In the chaos, he managed to escape with his life, the clothes on his back and the weapon in his hand.

To this day, he is hunted - the rumors of his madness still circulating.

Equipment/Weapons: An old dark leather trench coat (used to protect against the flames of a forge) with steel plates covering his shoulders and forearms, medium plate armor for a breastplate and chain mail under his pants. He has wears a dark brimmed felt hat, with hand crafted “safety” goggles around his neck. He has several saddle bags that his donkey “Enrico” carries extra equipment (cooking utensils, hand tools and other odds and ends)
His weapon is a short sword (think Roman Gladius), with hidden blades under each arm bracer.

Blessings: Sol/Solar

Faction: None

Trivia: His family was forced to either officially disown him, or be removed from their duties as priests. They chose the latter, being driven from their ancestral home as a result. Despite this. They have made a name for themselves, traveling the region “unofficially” acting as priests and on occasion helping in either local forges or tutoring in homes where their reputation has not yet caught up with them.

Tebor travels alone, only communicating with his family by mail (and always under an alias). He is hoping to one day clear his name, prove he isn’t in league with Obol, clear his family’s name and hopefully prove his is more than low born scum …

Very nice. APPROVED.

There are a few small problems: 1. There is no such concept of a Devil. Obol is the apparent equivalent.
2. No guns. Just no guns.

I can edit this to Obol and I can also make it to where the first real test of the flintlock damaged the barrel and now it is in a nonfunctional state.

Still. Just why guns?

I like firearms. If you would prefer, I can have him use some of the blades from the guild.

this would work. You could pull an assassins creed unity thing with the blade shooting crossbow, just no guns.

Name: Conleth Agama

Age: 11

Appearance: The blessing of Sol and Solar has manifested itself in yellow blonde hair, much to the dismay of Conleth. He wears a blue tight-fitting sleeveless shirt with a crescent moon pattern on the back, along with a lighter blue pair of harem pants (don’t look at me like that I didn’t name them) and no shoes. All of his attire is very flame resistant.

Personality: Conleth is the definition of hyperactive. He absolutely cannot get enough laps in, expend enough energy, or miss an opportunity to exhaust himself. He also has a fiery temper, rarely ever getting actually angry but frequently being obstinate purely for the sake of it. His martial arts prowess has made him an excellent climber, and if he can hang upside down by something in his spare time he will gladly do so.

History/Bio: Conleth Agama was one year old when a prophecy was made: He would one day be chosen by Luna to receive her holy touch. Since then, his ego took a tremendous boost, and he began intensive training to perfect his body and mind as much as he could to prepare for this blessing. As the day neared, he had special clothes made to help signify his new position of favor with the goddess.
And then the day arrived, and he could not have been more disappointed. For whatever reason, the prophecy was wrong — it was Sol and Solar who chose him, not Luna. Bitter and resentful, Conleth embraced his new fire powers in the most cavalier fashion, dangerously heating up his extremities to slowly carve his hands and feet through rock and, with enough time, solid steel. His parents have refused to comment on things, silently believing time in the real world will help dull the fiery edge of his temper.

Equipment/Weapons: Conleth wields a pair of butterfly swords, at adult scale, and with extreme proficiency. When not in use they are wrapped in the excess cloth around his waist and stored on his hip. He is also very proficient in martial arts, combining it very effectively with his fire powers, but if an opponent is simply too large or has an effective counter, it won’t be very effective.

Blessings: Sol/Solar. He specializes in heating up his hands and feet to white-hot levels, able to melt through steel if given long enough contact.

Trivia: Conleth doesn’t like the idea of being in charge, but does like the idea of being right, and revels in his plans and plots being proven correct. His hair was originally black, and he resents it having turned blonde. He has an unstoppable sweet tooth, and will go out of his way to acquire treats and sugary foods to satiate it. Despite his proud nature, he is very empathetic, and in more serious or emotional moments has dropped all egotism out of pity.

Truth and Justice

{{Appearance}}

Her core form is that of a skeleton, buried in the clothes she wore in life. That being a standard combat skirt, cargo-short pants, and a heavy worn white vest, tied up with a bow. Although these days due to her lack of flesh her residual rekindled magic has had to sew things a lot tighter to her bones. That and summon a fair bit of belts to keep things together.

Her face is practically all skull, although her bleached blue hair still remains, a residual of her powerup, and something she’s quite content to still have.

{{Power/Abilities}}

Her old abilities involved increased strength, magically induced ice abilities, and the ability to summon her Pinwheel to her.

{{Tools/Possessions/Gear}}

The Pinwheel is her magical weapon of choice. It is constructed of a spinning blade wheel connected to an incredibly sturdy staff. When spun fast enough it will tear through reality, and create jagged portals in space.

{{Personality/Motivation}}

She’s quite the tired soul, her sole motivation now is simply to rest, but like many popular characters she keeps getting brought back for the sequels.

Due to her lack of voice, she now uses a school chalk board to write things out to speak…mayhaps one of the gods will change this…mayhaps not.

{{Personality Type Answer of Choice}}

Type 1.

{{Backstory (or in this case Blessing)}}

A great hero that destroyed the dark lord and defeated his armies. She then passed away shortly after from her injuries. She was buried in the mountains underneath a sturdy cherry blossom tree.

Her Pinwheel staff was placed ontop her grave and she rested. Until the magic brought her back, a likely target due to her previous experience with the field of magics.

Due to her previous experience, she was chosen. It’s always popular to bring back a fan favorite after all.

Uhhh… I didn’t put down races because there are only humans. Also, I’m very confused.

It’s still human, just the dead kind, well undead to reclarify. She’s been dead a very long time.

I mean, you did specifically go outside the signup, ignore the history/bio category only to tack it on blessing, added a personality type of 1 (whatever 1 means), and gave the character a staff that can make portals in an rp where the rest of the characters’ abilities are fairly benign… and gave her cargo shorts in a fantasy setting.

Just a few of the reasons why Oisli might be confused.

Exactly. Plus, the characters have ‘okay’ powers-because over the course of the story they’re supposed to get stronger. Portals? That’s a big fat no. Undead? Resurrection is an act of divine intervention, and undead aren’t even a thing. Cargo pants? This isn’t a contemporary fantasy.
