Iosif dropped to his knees right as Hayden reeled back, and the blast carved a nice flaming hole in the wooden door. Iosif wasted no time climbing through.
“Help!” He shouted towards the stairs, although there was a wall between.

Up above, Celsius continues to give chase, looking for an opportunity to stop the swinging bot and get it away from the sky rail.
Inamongst babble about the attack at the Luthor rally and an unrelated pursuit of a young metahuman of some sort, Vance would hear a breaking story on how the machine had busted into S.T.A.R. Labs and stolen some priceless cutting-edge technology, and had been leading the SCU and this newcomer on a chase along the rail for some time.
The bot is in a tricky situation. It wants to shake Celsius off, but has no limbs free to attack. The solution it reaches is to complicatedly rewrap its tangled legs around its precious stolen cargo, so that it was being clutched securely with only one leg. With the other, it swings out an extending kick, trying to knock her off of the ice.
As he got closer, the man produced some kind of business card, green with purple writing and a question mark. If Thelryn was particularly observant, he might notice the same question mark symbol emblazoned on his suit pocket. “Lewis Hardy, E. Nygma.” He smirked easily, as if the very name would put the officers at ease. It did much the opposite. Immediately, a tense and agitated atmosphere filled the air.
“We know who you are,” The apparent head of the unit spoke, with measured care, as though he were trying his very best to avoid saying something he’d regret, “We appreciate your concern, but the perpetrator has already been apprehended, and-”
“And this was a mask attacking an anti-mask presidential candidate in broad daylight.” Hardy cut in, with a self-assured tone, “We want to be very careful about how we handle this, now don’t we? The media is already having a field day with this, and if we don’t make sure about all the facts, the precious superhero system you’ve been working so hard to support might just come crashing down around your ears. I can help with that.”
At first, the officers were unsure if this fiery newcomer was some kind of accomplice, but the battle-lines were soon clearly drawn, and they shifted priorities. They were after the battery kid, but clearly the bigger threat right now was Hayden, and they immediately train their energy weapons on him. “M.P.D! Disengage and stand down, or we’ll treat you as hostile!”
Iosif whirled back around towards Hayden. If he could get the flame guy in trouble and also get away… Well, that was two birds with one stone. Only trouble is, were the SCU on the roof, downstairs, or… Both?
His eyes darted back and forth between the stairs and Hayden. There was a manhole directly nearby, but it would take too long to flip it open. What to do…
Only then did he realize he was glowing, as is the usual when collecting a full charge. Great. So much for being inconspicuous.
Hayden immediately paused; hovering mid-air, and put his hands up. “I’m assisting!” Hayden yelled “Er… trying to that is.” He added. Hayden then realized his mistake and tried to correct it: “Assisting you!”
“He’s trying to hurt me!” Iosif cried out, crumpling backwards. “Get away!”
Hayden would practically be able to hear the officer raising their eyebrows. “By frying the perp?”
“It would only last for a week or so… the minor burn, that is. And I don’t know how he could be dangerous.”
Iosif adopted a revolted expression in response. Weren’t superheroes supposed to be, y’know… The good guys? not blockheads? especially not “burn a child to death” blockheads?
…And what did the officer mean by “perp”? he hadn’t heard that word before.
Robot… not my mission but being S.T.A.R. related… “Busy day…” Vance muttered to himself, continuing to follow, unable to intervene right now
“This isn’t a conversation, kid. Just stay there, and stay out of our way. Fraser and Maldonado here are gonna keep an eye on you,” The officer continues, gesturing to two of his men, whose energy rifles are already trained on Hayden, “If you try anything funny, they will shoot. Let’s move.” With that, he begins barking out orders again, sending roughly half the squad down the side of the building, and the other half back down the stairs, trying to box Iosif in.
Hayden waits there trying to think of a way out of this mess, but to no avail. So he continues to wait.
Adelaide motioned for Gideon to follow her before realizing it would take him a while to scramble up the fire escape as well without any assistance like her. She sighed and moved to finishing up her runes. Pulling against the hang glider as the runes activated for a moment. A mild blast of wind blew out from the variety of runes attached, them fading away. Holding it down, meaning to test it, she almost fell over the balcony forgetting her own weight. Quickly she reapplied the runes as they were fading away, giving an accurate trace job over her own handiwork. Giving a thumbs up to Gideon she dropped it towards him.
Gideon stared quizzically as it fell into his arms. He dropped the cigarette and quietly ground his heel on it as he looked it over, and eventually looked back up at Adelaide with a quizzical expression.
Iosif wiped his brow with the back of his hand as he slowly stood back up. At least now he could worry about getting away, in peace.
…Or he would have been able to, if he didn’t stand there recovering for the next five seconds. As the troopers raced down the stairwell and entered the ground floor, Iosif slammed against the wall and began drawing himself down to the floor, fully prepared to enter the fetal position if the situation demanded.
She gesticulated some motions over the edge of where she was standing. Attempting to mimic the motions of a plane with her hand gliding and then pulling up another hand to indicate that it would hit something. Was this how they were gonna follow the sirens.
Adelaide started to repeat the process, pulling up a string of paper coming from her own body, visibly becoming thinner. She continued scribbling before glancing back down. “Maybe I should’ve just become the hang glider next time. Pull a Wonder Twins or whoever.”
Gideon was doubly confused. Was he supposed to glide into a building?
“Should I just come up there?” He asked.
Adelaide visibly sighed, hopping down. Her body peeling off, opening up holes like swiss cheese and spreading a make chute parachute. She still fell rather fast though.
Obviously, underestimating the fall, her legs and crumpled and tore. She let out an audible cry fo pain when she hit the floor. She started mending her legs, forming back together. Grasping towards the glider, her body started flowing into it. The pained look slowly faded away as her body moved into the glider. “Just hold on. I’ll direct. If we hit a building, you won’t get hurt right?”
Gideon almost jumped to assist her, but convinced himself that she knew what she was doing.
…Maybe.
As she shifted into the glider, Gideon nearly dropped it out of shock. When she finished talking, he shrugged. “I’ll do my best.”
This is going to be… Interesting, for sure. Always wanted to go flying with some pretty woman, but this wasn’t quite what I had in mind.
The runes glowed, the build up to the larger gust was rather slow, due to the possible minor mistakes in the trace job or were they deliberate for the chance for the man to get his baring.
It started to pick up, the blast of wind pulled them into the air.
At first there was the slight terror of being picked up by an uncontrolled blast of air, but afterwards there was the anticipation of flying through the air on a controlled breeze, soaring above the skies of Metropolis, the whole world beneath you, every SCU officer within five miles wondering how the deuce you came to the conclusion that this was legal… Marvelous.
If only I was still a kid. This would be a dream come true. Or, a terrible nightmare. Either way, totally worth it.
