General "help me identify this piece" thread

I’m almost completely sure that the squared version is a relatively recent mold update.

These are both official, just two different molds. The squared version is actually the older variant, part 32209. If you take a look at the white versions of this part that came with the Toa Metru/Bahrag/Exo-Toa etc, you’ll notice that they’re all the squared version. It was used up until 2006 when it was replaced with the rounded version, part 59426. As such, for all relevant 2006 Bionicle sets it’s possible for the Zamor launcher triggers to be either variant due to when the change was made.

Wasn’t one of those made with soft plastic as well? The copies I have on the Zamor shooters can flex quite a bit compared to standard technic axles.

Yes, they’re both made from polypropylene rather than standard ABS. This is because the piece originated as a wheel axle for Znap sets, which used a lot of polypropylene parts. In fact the only ABS Znap parts were the wheels and connectors

I didn’t know that, but it would explain a lot; it’s such a random axle compared to other Technic pieces.

Alright, I know this isn’t a Lego piece, but I can’t identify what it is.

I finally got around to sorting through a bag of random Lego parts and some other junk and this was in there. For a moment, due to finding cut axels earlier, I thought it was a cut chunk of Lewa’s ax before quickly realizing that was incorrect.

That might actually be a LEGO part. There’s a very similar part that I have at home that has a bar connection at each end with each widening out to a stud-width just below the bar; the middle is a suspension detail that was used on some older technic sports car/dune buggy set. The part is very odd in that the bar connectors are too thick to actually connect to minifigure hands and other connections, yet the stud-width parts connect just fine. No idea if it’s a factory error or just a problem with the age of the part.

Above are two examples of my odd part (the red spring-like elements in the flowers). I genuinely have no idea how to describe them so that Google can find images of them.

That’s a conveyor belt piece.

I can see why you’d say it might be a Lego piece, due to that similar shaping. But the plastic is the wrong shade of green. Even with direct comparison it would be difficult to see in photos, but it doesn’t feel like or have the correct color that Lego parts normally would have.

The axles look like Mega Bloks/Construx pieces

Did this Cragger figure come in a set, or is it pieced together from various sources? I didn’t find any matches, but perhaps I overlooked somethig.

That’s the Cragger figure from Dimensions

One of the cool things about Chima is that it lasted just long enough to get into Dimensions while it was still around, receiving three Fun Packs in the first year - one for Laval, one for Eris, and one for Cragger. Despite being characters from an already existing theme they were all given unique torso and leg printing compared to their usual releases. Not even Dimensions releases for Ninjago characters were given that luxury so I have no idea why they did it, but I’m absolutely not complaining because Chima’s awesome

Any idea about this wing? Got it from a Lego parts lot a while back. I’m honestly not sure if it’s Lego, it feels very cheap. More like thick paper than actual fabric.

Those counters are an absolute mystery to me.

Initially I assumed they’d come from a Toa Metru board game, but I checked BS01 and found out the only 2004 “board” game was a Kanoka target practice “game” released in the Lego Magazine. It didn’t have any components other than the disk launchers you used to play it. Then I thought maybe a 2005 board game was just using outdated art, but that was a similar story. The closest board games to the Metru era came out in 2003 and 2006. Checking the BS01 article for “Merchandise” turned up nothing- just a lot of hats and keychains and stuff, but nothing that would involve “points”. My next thought was card games, but no Bionicle card games were released between 2002 and 2008.

In closing: based on a short investigation, I have NO idea where these counters came from. You might want to ask the folks here or here if they recognize it.

Edit: On closer inspection, the numbers in the corners match some random board game counters from a 2001-2002 board game that I got in a random parts lot. Is the other side of them any different, or is it the same art/text on both sides?
