Karzahni the Harvester

Back in May 2023, I made a revamp of 8940 Karzahni out of a desire to have the character without having to buy the set again (though I later did anyway, but that’s neither here nor there). Later that year, I decided to make a version depicting the character in his prime. I’m not sure why it’s taking me so long to really talk about it here, but after making a couple tweaks to his legs I decided to finally show him off.

Karzahni the Harvester

First thing’s first, let’s talk about the color scheme. I simply cannot imagine this character as being black and gold, so I made him green (dark green, simply because of the greater selection of constraction parts to work with); I don’t think anyone will argue with me there. But as for the other color: almost everyone else I’ve seen make a green Karzahni moc has used some shade of blue as the secondary color. That’s fair enough, but I wanted my moc to stand out from the crowd a bit, so I wanted to use purple. I had no idea how I was going to do that until I found this moc that uses some purple technic panels as the chest.

From there, I remember the design process being fairly easy. The torso is using that same upside-down Metru torso technique I first used on Toa Mangai Cyhatu with some stuff added on to bulk out the torso. Angled liftarms were used to mount the shoulder pads. The lower arms took quite some figuring out to do, mainly because I wanted to keep it as spiky as possible, and admittedly I’m not the biggest fan of how they turned out. Still, I think the flick-fire missiles used to hold the rest of the spikes together turned out ok. Including them, there are 2̶2̶ 18 spikes in all.*

These sickle-like weapons are the reason I called this moc “The Harvester.” Back when I made this guy in December 2023, I could’ve just given him the same flaming chains that my original revamp had (and the weapons he canonically wielded anyway), but at the time I just did not want to deal with posing them again. So after some deliberation, I gave him these. I imagine, if nothing else, these are what he used during his fight with Artakha.

A few months later, at what I believe was the request of a friend, I also gave him a stop sign. This obviously makes no sense and was just done for the laughs.

Something you may have noticed is that the legs in these two renders are built differently from the first. That’s because the sickle render is from December 2023 and the stop sign render is from August 2024. Just last night, I realized that the orientation of the Skrall armor would interfere hard with the Rahkshi head belt buckle, so I did some prototyping and found a way to flip that armor 90 degrees. I do think the original looks better, but in this case, functionality wins out, and I will be building the version with the flipped armor if and when I get around to ordering all the pieces.

Speaking of, Karzahni contains 1̶6̶6̶ 159 pieces in total*, including the mask and cape (̶I̶ ̶h̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶n̶o̶ ̶i̶d̶e̶a̶ ̶w̶h̶i̶c̶h̶ ̶o̶n̶e̶ ̶I̶’̶l̶l̶ ̶b̶e̶ ̶u̶s̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶h̶e̶r̶e̶)̶, but not including any of the tools. The flaming chains contain 6 pieces each, while the sickles contain 5 pieces each. Despite what it may look like, the stop sign in its current form cannot be built in real life.

Update (6/8/26)

Karzahni has been built in real life!

A couple catches though.

First, about those strikethrough texts and asterisks. Studio lied to me about the connectivity of the Rahkshi head in that area, forcing me to swap out one of the axle connectors for a longer variant and remove everything else, resulting in a net loss of 3 pieces. I also decided to remove the spikes on his back since they were getting in the way of the cape (I ended up choosing the Lord Vladek cape, by the way. This black recolor came from capes4minifigs), resulting in another 4 piece deficit. This results in a 7 piece net loss overall compared to when I originally designed him. But since the model is otherwise visually identical, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Second, and the more important one, is the legs. The part I used to flip the armor 90 degrees was this part, seen on sets like Kiina and Mata Nui. As they only ever came out with the brittle 2008 sockets, building this guy proved to be something of a gamble and posing him can truly be a chore. If anyone has any suggestions on how to design this leg without relying on the brittle joints while keeping the purple armor, I’m open to suggestions.

I really like this Karzahni! I like how his flat, smooth torso and upper limbs contrast with his rough lower limbs and shoulders to produce a patchwork appearance. I’m not a fan of how blocky his hands are, but I like everything else about him!

0/10 absolutely no efficient harvesting equipment :triumph: the crops will spoil this year

What’s holding the stop sign back from being built in real life? I’m not seeing anything necessarily preventing its construction.

Karzahni can’t do anything right, smh my head

Assuming all the parts come in the right colors–and I’m not sure if they do–take a look at the sign again. The sides are 4 studs long, but the letters are only 3 studs long. Basically, I had to choose whether to align the letters on the studs or to center them in the sign. For the sake of the render, I chose the latter.

You didn’t jumper it? :imp:

PURPLE yum

I’m probably going crazy, but the chains remind me of the Scarecrow from Batman. The waist is pretty good, don’t know if I’ve ever seen those CCBS shells used as the insides of thighs.

Don’t know if I could and still keep the sign thin. The T in particular would be really tricky.

I didn’t take any inspiration from Scarecrow (I know very little about DC), but honestly the Olisi does give off Scarecrow vibes.

Can’t stop. Addicted to the shindig.

I don’t think the sign’s going to stop Velika.

That sign won’t stop Velika because he can’t read.
