Part of my Magna Guard line of figures, this fourth set features the nervous and questioning Dynek.

And the rough and loudmouthed Motess. Together they join the Yesterday Questers to hunt down the Marendar!

Dynek was a fun figure to make, for the simple reason that he’s primarily orange, and a lot of the pieces used here are some of my favourite parts in the Bionicle parts catalogue. He was just simple fun for me, and that’s it.

For Motess, he was my first attempt at making a Toa of Magnetism. Right away I wanted to distinguish the colour scheme from other Toa colour layouts such as Earth and Sonics.

And after looking at Jovan I noticed he had one blue piece within his torso, so I decided going forward to make blue, with the addition of red part of the Magnetism colour pallet. Then I made the colours half and half to give the idea of the magnetic polarity. And not long after Motess was made!

And with Orde.

Thanks for taking a look at my MOCs!

I find it quite rarely to see a magnetism Toa MOC that doesn’t venture into the not-so-good comical/cartoonish region. This Motess character has a perfect balance. Dynek’s use of soft orange is also very pleasing. Well done.

Dynek’s really lanky, and being flatfooted doesn’t help him much, but his posing is a lot more fun than Motess, who has no tapered cankles to help make his silhouette more interesting. The biceps on Motess are very offputting with the shoulder armor flipped like that, and would be improved with some additional piece on top to help change the flow.

As for color schemes, the amount of black in Dynek throws off his look a bit I feel, but the darker colors compliment the black very well in Motess, whose palette feels very subdued and natural. If he had the same dynamic shape language that Dynek has for some of his design he’d be my favorite figure out of the bunch.
