Though he sided with Teridax at first, Makuta Egis eventually learned of the true fate the Leader had in store for the universe at large and realized that everyone in it would suffer; so he began crafting an army to destroy Teridax in any way he can, including “depleting his resources” if need be.

This caught the attention of a team of 6 Toa and a weirdly intelligent Rahi, who misunderstood his goals and sought to stop him. After a number of battles, the Toa’s leader got Egis to see the error of his ways (namely, that Teridax could be stopped without the burdens he would bring upon the Matoran) and the two agreed to a truce. Unfortunately, Teridax revealed himself at the scene by dealing a seemingly mortal blow to the Toa, prompting Egis to sacrifice his life to allow his rekindled hope to escape.
“You are not a god yet, Teridax. But even so, I would never bow down to one such as you.” ~Egis’s last words
Trivia
- Egis is inspired by Egil from Xenoblade Chronicles, though the light grey in the color scheme was more or less replaced by sand green. The 6 Toa and the “weirdly intelligent Rahi” are references to the 7 party members from that game and Egis’s conflict with Teridax references Egil’s war with Zanza.
- His name is pronounced like “aegis” but with a soft g rather than a hard g.
- Egis may have created a number of Neo-Makuta for his rebellion (like Egil’s Face Mechon), but it’s not currently known if Egis lived long enough to see his Neo-Makuta take action.
