For whatever reason, whenever I try to quote somebody, my post becomes a generic post in the thread and doesn’t feature the quote above it. Am I the only one who is experiencing this?

It’s because you tried to quote the entire post directly above you. When you do that, it automatically edits the quote out of the post, because all that does is show the same post twice before your response - the actual post, and then the quote. It’s to keep things neat. There was a topic for this a ways back.
Basically, if you’re responding to the post directly above yours, there’s no point in quoting the whole thing.
