I’m seeing it on Saturday, and I’m kind of hyped right now after hearing how good it was from other people
Saw it last night. It’s good…very good. Not the best Star Wars movie, but right up there with Empire and TFA. It would be the best of them all if the whole movie was as good as the end–the last five minutes are utter perfection on a scale far too grand to comprehend.
I’ll give a real review once we figure out where we stand on spoilers and such, but suffice to say, I think Star Wars has a really bright future…
Honestly, she may be my favorite Star Wars character. Her story arc was so emotional and compelling, and it was all conveyed so well in just a single movie. Plus, she basically embodied what it means to be a “hero”, in every sense of the word. And, really…she’s one of the most realistic Star Wars characters. She feels like an actual person with real flaws.
I don’t even know if I can rank it with the other Star Wars movies…it was a wholly different type of movie, and comparing it to the main saga is just wrong. As others have said, the only “problem” is that it’s a bit cluttered in the first 20-30 minutes. Literally everything else is dang near perfect.
Are you sure? Empire was pretty amazing. I felt like TFA was the best star wars film immediately after seeing it.
Pretty sure. I love Empire but I think RO manages to get a bit more right. I enjoyed TFA a lot too, but that fact that it is a spiritual reboot of episode 4 holds it back slightly. At least when comparing it to RO. Overall I cared about more characters in RO than I did in TFA
My reaction returning from the theater:
“I need a director’s cut. I need more. I need more of this movie before I die!”
maybe you could buy the books, like this one for example:

I sure am…
at least for the six lucas movies:

i can’t help it, plus when i was young, i would rent out these kinds of books from the local libary on many occations. They were interesting reads for me, plus i got to learn more about how stuff worked in the Star Wars universe.
these two books are basicy the full, combined version of the ones i read as a kid, which all contained facts and vehicle info from each of the movies.
Dude I used to always read those books. They were great.
@Sonus I really liked TFA’s cast so that makes me happy to know we’re getting more characters to care about.
Just got back from seeing Rogue One and dang, that was a wild ride. I had a few nitpicks, but I honestly need some more time (and a few more viewings) to fully process everything. All I can really say is… guys, go watch this movie!
Same! I loved the visual dictionaries, and now I really want to crack open Rogue One’s. There are just so many awesome, tiny world-building details in that movie.
Just got back from seeing Rogu… oh wait, I’m copying @legomaster1378’s post, lol. It was fantastic. For me, I liked it better than TFA, and I had no really big issues with TFA. One cool thing that happened was that a detachment of the 501st was there. Darth Vader, a Stormtrooper Commander, a Death Watch Trooper, a Shadow Trooper, several Imperial Officers, a Wicket, a Jawa, Darth Revan, and Darth Nihilus were all present. A few moments before we went in though the big guy arrived. Chewbacca had entered the building. So that was fun. Full Spoiler talk about the many easter eggs and cameos and some funny moments.
SPOILERS
THERE WAS A TURBO TANK! THERE WAS A KRIFFING TURBO TANK IN THE MOVIE. Ehem. Sorry, that just happens to be my favorite LEGO set so I’m kind of attached. It was weird to not have an opening crawl, but at least the movie gave us the title of the film, since I kind of have a pet peeve about that. It was really cool seeing the Ghost from Rebels pop up from time to time, and unless Cham finally abandoned Ryloth, I think Hera might be a general now. I loved Jyn. Seeing her as a child to switch to an adult having been raised by Saw Gerrera was awesome. Also Saw Gerrera. I want some backstory on him to see what happened in between The Clone Wars and Rogue One. WHY IS HE BASICALLY A ROBOT?! Is he like canon Grievous who chose the replacements, or did he get shot up a bunch? Probably the second. Doctor Evzann and Ponda Boba were cool little Easter eggs, and they probably felt lucky to escape Jedha up until Obi-Wan cut them to pieces in Mos Eysley. Tarkin was fantastic. He was used effectively, and to see him scheming for control of the Death Star was great continuity to his solo book, which ends with Tarkin actually in command of the project (although it does end several years before Rogue One). Vader was also very well done. The way he carved through the rebels trying to board Tantive IV was fantastic. I figured he wouldn’t want anything to do with Mustafar after his duel with Kenobi, but, oh well. Blue Milk was a thing. K2SO trying to do the “bad feeling about this” line but getting interrupted was great. C-3PO and R2’s cameo was fun. Poor Bail Organa though. His leaving Yavin 4 was his death sentence, but at least they mentioned both Obi-Wan and Leia before he left. The ending with Leia was great. The movie didn’t take any time to wind down, because the story isn’t actually over. There could’ve been a TO BE CONTINUED sign at the end and it would have been perfect. Oh, and Anderson from Sherlock was a senator. That was interesting. I’m seeing it again Tuesday, so any more easter eggs I catch I’ll come back and name along with a review since I’ll have seen the film twice.
And unlike DC’s extended editions, the movie can stand alone because it’s not necessary to make the movie actually comprehensible.
If nobody else has done it yet, do you guys want me to go ahead and make a spoilers chat over on Discord? If you’re interested, be sure to post/PM your Discord names and ID numbers in order to add you.
I just watched it. Please make a discord chat.
I just want the deleted scenes. I want this. I don’t care what the scene is, I just want it. This should’ve been an official poster.
My only problems:
-
Too much jumping around to different locations in the first 40 minutes, like Suicide Squad.
-
No title card description thingy for Mustafar.
-
Not enough character building for Baze.
-
The CG for Tarkin.
-
Every team member but K-2S0 dies by explosion. I wish Baze was at least taken out like Commander Thorn instead of a grenade rolled out of the Death Trooper’s hand.
-
Moroff didn’t get to do jack with his handheld Gatling gun.
-
Instead of doing a fast forward repeat dream of Jyn’s father being taken away, I wish that they did a flashback to Saw training her.
-
If Cassian and Jyn were supposed to be hinted at as a thing, then I didn’t like that. I couldn’t really tell at the end.
Here ya go
I’ve already got the basics of one that I can PM you the link if you haven’t set up yours already. There’s probably more that needs to be added, but I don’t know what I should add
I didn’t get that impression at all…Their hugging/closeness at the end wasn’t really “I’m attracted to you”, it was more like, “We’re about to die a horrible death, and I need someone to hold onto for comfort.”
Yeah, but just in case if that was ever a note anywhere during production, used or unused, would have greatly irritated me.
Alright, I made a spoiler chat for Rogue One with distinct text channels to talk about different aspects of the movie. Check it out here:
well, lets think about it. most friendships thend to be missread as “i love you” kind of love, instead of friendship love, i mean some people look at Sam and Frodo’s friendship in the LotR movies as “i love you” love instead of friendship. No, im not kidding.
