The Antidermis pool (Gilahu's Brotherhood Project Makuta WIPs)

Alright, basically done with the Vyrdran upgrade. The new arm design doesn’t look quite as good as the old one, but as you can see, you can’t see much due to the cloak. Getting a double digit amount of money in on top of that none too common parts out of that thus seems definitely worth it to me.

Speaking of the cloak, though, I just had a thought that could really add to the appearance without demanding too much cloth - adding a collar. I think I’ll do that.

I think this works.

Contemplating if I should build some tool for him, too. On the one hand, him having to hold a tool takes away from this look where his arms are completely hidden. And the original had no tool.
On the other hand, some kind of tool (likely a staff of some sort) would probably be interesting just to take some pictures with.
Maybe I’ll do it like the first time and give him something for the photoshoot he doesn’t keep afterwards…

I love how regal he looks. However the head looks a bit too smooth compared to the rest of the moc’s aesthetic

On to other unfinished things I have lying around - Jarnat. And looking at him again… I kinda don’t feel it. Something is off. Maybe multiple things?

  • proportions?
  • legs not bulky enough?
  • texturing on the torso?

Could use some opinions here, but I kinda feel like scrapping everything except the head, figuring out a new design concept for him and starting over… The original certainly was brutish looking and a brutish character, but this here just kinda… doesn’t work?Might want to try something a little more… refined. Less gorilla, more bulky dread knight, maybe?

What does the original look like?

He looks OK as-is. That being said, if you really want to find something wrong with it, I suppose the joints are lacking. For suck a “brutish” character, his knees and ankles are surprisingly unarmored. Furthermore, the uniform girth of his legs gives a sort of unmuscular, almost feminine look. As for the torso, the texturing looks fine, though the shoulders could use some bulk. They’re thin on the tops, which may be solved with some pauldrons or epaulettes of some sort.

The knees have the Metru feet above them, so those are armored. But the other things are good points.

Previous version looked like this:

I enjoy the strange gorilla proportions, but the lower half definitely looks like it belongs to a different model than the top. Maybe bulkier and a little longer to get them a little closer together, but keep the top a little heavier? Maybe more black in the legs too.

Interesting, I kinda viewed it in the opposite way; The legs blended well with the torso, but the upper arms have an entirely different design language than the rest of the build (they’re thinner and contain more black parts).

Also, welcome back

Gravity unfortunately likes to works against me when making MOCs taller. Especially when they are bulky.

But I understand what you mean. Some really powerful-looking legs would probably help quite a bit making him feel like a real titan.

You consider the arms thin? I actually think they are pretty massive. I rarely do arms this bulky.

But something else that annoys me with the arms is the limited poseability. The Bohrok eyes in the torso are in the way, as are the blades on the back, and the elbow joints offer a certain stability, but can only work along one plane. I think I might just have to throw out the Bohrok head pieces. They are simply too large.

Guess I should have specified more - the armpits are very thin. The concave Bohrok shoulders make that upper bit appear very skinny, even though shoulders are frequently one of the thickets parts of the arm.

Here’s what I mean - outlined in yellow is what the shoulders appear to be. To remedy you may be able to try some brick slopes on the open holes; those would flow into those red lift arms well and also give some more bulk to the upper bits.

Hm… idea:

How about a modified build of the one I used for Ancient’s legs? Feet included?

I probably won’t just slap it on the rest but modify that as well, but that might be a start…

So, new attempt at legs + lower torso for Jarnat. So far so good. I think they could maybe use a bit more visible black. Then again, it probably depends on how the torso turns out.

Did you draw this picture? I gotta say the pic of Krika looks really cool. I had no idea he was part of the Antidermis pool.

Looks good! Is there any way of breaking up the smoothness of the Rahkshi heads (maybe adding studs in the pinholes)?

Yeah, you’re not wrong that they stick out a bit texture-wise. I don’t think studs are the solution, though. I’m hoping that once I’m done, they’ll blend in a bit better, but otherwise I’m probably forced to come up with something else.

Lower legs need bulked out, that would fix a lot. Bigger feet would help as well. (please no one quote me)
