RP LIVE! heres the topic

The lore topic is live now too! You can find it here

For nearly a year now, war has ravaged the independent world of Sivas. Battles between the Baronies of Argon and the Blackvine Colonies rage in the plains of this once calm world, but that may soon come to an end.

The initial blitzkrieg launched by the United Colonial Military may have nearly eliminated the Argon forces occupying parts of the planet, but a tremendous strain has been placed on the colonies by keeping the baronies’ reinforcements locked in battle. Claiming the planet itself to be of little use, with its location being more important to expansion, the High Baron has authorized Admiral Labrenz’ wish to use mass bombardment to end the surface conflict, along with additional ships to crush the UCM’s navy present above. Whispers of the planet’s fate have begun to spread, carrying a certainty that is sure to terrify all who hear it: the first ships have already arrived, and it is only a matter of days before the others do. Worse yet, to ensure that Colonial forces will be struck with no warning, Labrenz plans to refuse evacuation to troops currently deployed on Sivas’ surface before the bombardment.

You will be playing as combatants in this fight. Your branch, allegiance and origins are entirely up to you, but by some means you will be on the planet’s surface, whether you are traditionally a ground pounder or circumstances forced you into the embrace of soil. You will be armed, but ammunition will be limited, and there is no guarantee that anything found in the field will be salvageable. Faced with rumors of an imminent planet-destroying bombardment, you will be forced to decide whether to continue fighting for your cause or flee for your life, making allies wherever you can to ensure survival. It is important to be mindful of your mouth however, as the Baronies and their agents will likely go to great lengths to preserve the element of surprise.

Origins

The Baronies’ Grand Argon Fighting Forces

Initially deployed to defend the newly constructed transportation hubs and fuel depots on Sivas, the Baronies’ armed forces have since shifted to a new objective: deliver a massive blow to the core of the Colonial military, since so much of it is being funneled into this fight. Better equipped than their opponents by a fair bit, Argon forces have up until recently underestimated their enemies in this war, leading to many calls for arms and reinforcements shortly after new units are deployed. Finally allowed to use means of cataclysmic destruction, experienced fighters may notice that a change is occurring in the navy above.

Blackvine’s United Colonial Military

Not nearly as prestigious as the Argon, Blackvine and its colonies were nonetheless forged in many battles as they fought hard to remove themselves from the Baronies influence. Many of their senior officers and a still significant chunk of their army is made up of veterans of that freedom fight, making up for the differences in technology, though perhaps not numbers. Nearly one year ago, soldiers of the Blackvine arrived in large numbers to Sivas and blitzed the Barony infrastructure in place there, nearly destroying the entire force stationed there. Digging their heels in in anticipation of a counter attack, many more troops arrived shortly after, making Sivas one of the largest single deployments in the UCMs history, short as it may be.

Sivas Militia

The limited navy held by Sivas, along with the closest thing they had to a regular military was quickly wiped out in the first month after they joined the battle. Initially staying out of the fight, the militia eventually formed to join the Colonials, but many months of disagreements and mutinies now leaves the Sivas Militia fighting themselves along with the offworlders, having divided roughly in half, some supporting Argon’s armies, while many others inflate Blackvine’s numbers.

Sivas Civilian

A Sivas native, you have endured the past year of violence, watching your beloved home quickly turn from a peaceful, independent world to a ravaged battlefield that seems as if it will never recover from the horrors of war. Who do you blame for the atrocities brought upon your land and people? Though the Baronies ignored your world’s requests to end their operations here, their transportation hubs kept entirely to themselves, with the only effect being more offworld traffic. Things were tense, but quiet until Blackvine came to drive off the Argon. Nearly successful in their goal, war made Sivas its home regardless of the intents of anyone involved. Although some may now look beyond the politics of it all, preferring to simply survive or flee, most of Sivas is now divided in which of the outsiders is to blame for the brutal destruction brought to their home.

Technology Overview

Hardsuits

While civilians do have access to hardsuits, many don’t find much need for them unless they are regularly onboard any smaller ships or exposed to vacuum often, although a number of them use minimalist passive or semi-powered exoskeletons. Military personnel almost always have some form of hardsuit, be it one for naval officers onboard a cramped ship, marines with their wide variety of missions, or ground troops who tend towards lighter hardsuits that may not be rated for the hard vac their naval or marine brothers and sisters encounter.

Weapons

While there are a handful of energy weapons in various stages of development, the reality is that they simply aren’t practical yet, meaning nearly everyone is still using different designs of chemical-kinetic firearms, some blunt or edged personal weapons, and a mix of missiles and things such as chemical-kinetic munitions, railguns or gauss cannons on the naval scale. Infantry weapons feature primarily caseless ammunition, but any more powerful personal weapons, or sidearms focused on simplicity and reliability still use cased ammo. Most civilian firearms use cased ammo, and Sivas is one of the few non-frontier planets where it isn’t uncommon for civilians to own firearms. A particular difference between the personal weapons of the Baronies and the Colonies is in age and additional features: while the firearms of both factions are incredibly reliable, Blackvine weapons tend to be simpler, often able to be repaired in the field given the availability of basic spare parts, while the Baronies’ forces utilize more advanced weaponry that have more features and sometimes extra advantages over their competition.

Communication

Communication equipment is largely based around radio waves in some means, though fixed locations (or ships in precise geosynchronous orbit) can use beams of light to rapidly transfer information in a straight line, though this is prone to interruption from weather and other outside factors. Interplanetary, and especially interstellar communication has a noticeable delay, which combined with travel times is part of the factor in the war at Sivas being more of a skirmish in the grand scheme of things, despite lasting a year

*please dont go too ham, stick to a primary and sidearm, melee of some sort if youd like. Combat will be a part of this, but its not going to be the main focus. The heaviest weapons characters would be able to have and start with would be a Barony LMG or a DMR from either faction. If anyone wants to do a navy officer or vehicle operator/pilot, they are usually equipped with some sort of pistol or SMG

I don’t have a set number of characters I’m looking for, but this will be on the lighter side. I will release two GMPCs to help guide in the beginning, but they will eventually be removed (perhaps violently).

(now the not fun stuff) I have the ability to request changes to characters before they are accepted, as well as the ability to deny characters or players from joining. If you have questions about anything world or character wise, feel free to ask.

oh gosh it’s me isn’t it I’m gonna get kicked out :eyes::sweat_drops:

Name: Vitus Warthen (VY-tuss WOR-thin)

Age: 13

Origins/Faction: Sivas Civilian (formerly Sivas Military-affiliated)

Position/Branch: Weapons Expert

Weapons: Vitus carries a Barony Space-Rated Armament LMG, with impressive kick only negated by proper stance and heavy usage of his stabilizing arm. He is proficient in a wide variety of firearms, although simply picking one up on the battlefield and wielding it expertly is something he tries to avoid, as his disease can sometimes trigger involuntarily hand curling, which has lead to incidents he does not want repeated.

Equipment: Vitus wears half of a high-end hardsuit to support his legs. It is dark in coloration and ends just below the waist, and likely came from a higher-ranking naval officer in the Baronies’ Grand Argon Fighting Forces, although evidently not so high-ranking to not be sent into combat zones. He also carries a small toolbox which he has welded to the side of his hardsuit’s hip, which contains a small assortment of wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and whatnot.
Attached to the back of the hardsuit is a thin robotic stabilizing arm, which is designed to clip onto just about any firearm on the market, and help stabilize his aim, although he also uses it to hold delicate items he does not trust himself holding for long periods of time.
To avoid episodes triggering accidental discharges of ammunition, Vitus carries two copies of an attachable lever which when attached press against the trigger of virtually any firearm imaginable, allowing him to control the rate of fire much more efficiently. By gripping the lever with one hand he must keep constant pressure on the lever in order to keep the gun firing, making it very difficult for any episodes to result in it being fired unintentionally.

Appearance: Vitus is bony and thin, with a soft face, pale skin, and a nest of brilliantly blonde hair that extends in wavy bangs down to eyebrow level on his forehead, and to the base of his skull everywhere else. Eternally clothed in a tanktop with an almost skintight turtleneck overtop and durable pants designed to fit inside the hardsuit, with military-grade boots built directly into the hardsuit’s legs. A cylindrical power supply sits directly behind his waist, attached to and powering the hardsuit, pulled from the upper half of the hardsuit (what survived, anyhow).

Personality: Vitus has the frail, innocent appearance of a sweet little angel, horribly wronged by the world around him, and always deserving of pity, and for the most part it is true. However, he also shows the utmost indifference towards the atrocities of war, capable of gunning down multiple opponents without batting an eye, and has no sympathy for anyone he deems to be his opponent. Despite his appearance, he is heavily desensitized to everything around him, and displays extreme emotional detachment from the atrocities he witnesses.
Desperately resisting any kind of emotional closeness, Vitus does whatever he can to avoid someone peeling back the iron layer over his heart and exposing him to the horror of the war and what he’s experienced, which mostly manifests itself in a flat annoyance towards all around him.

History: Vitus was the son of high-ranking officer Belos Warthen, who had made a name for himself as quite the distinguished individual thanks to his status as an everyman in the military. Officially operating for Argon, his status allowed him to appear as an unofficial emissary to Blackvine and feel out the consenses of certain issues, reporting what he felt best at his own discretion. Neither side trusted him enough to provide him with sensitive information, yet he remained trustworthy to the Barony until the war began.
Clinging to his home over his superiors, Belos Warthen defected, siding with the Sivas Militia and subsequently dying in one of the very first battles, although it is unclear which side was responsible for his elimination. He was on board one of the few vessels the Sivas Militia possessed, along with his wife and son, Vitus, who was the only known survivor.
Being the son of an immensely popular serviceman compelled Vitus to learn everything he could about the military, its history, its tech, weaponry, status, and likewise everything he could about Blackvine. Not being naturally accustomed to heavy learning, it took a grandiose effort on his part, with the end result being a very familiar knowledge of the weaponry on both fronts… To an extremely amateur degree. More afluent with Argon weaponry than most, he can workshop something together out of the weaponry he finds, even if that something is more like a bomb that launches most of the gun out when it fires.
He also repaired the remains of the hardsuit to function again after finding it on the battlefield and now uses it as a crutch, both to stay upright when a minor attack hits and to avoid having to fully use his legs.
After surviving the attack, Vitus was rescued by Sivas civilians, where after dealing with a severe throat infection found himself battling the disease he now struggles with, and after several months of intense hatred towards both sides of the conflict, his personality mellowed out into the dangerously detached individual he is now.

Trivia: Vitus is afflicted by sydenham’s chorea, which has motivated him not to use his legs naturally and subsequently made the symptoms present with them much worse than normal. Sydenham’s chorea, in Vitus’ case, results in occasional fits of subtle incoherent and uncontrolled movement, especially in the limbs, rendering him temporarily incapable of any fine or even gross motor actions. This is a cause of great annoyance to Vitus, and he does what he can to hide the minor occurrences from public view. Other symptoms of attacks include outbursts in speech, slurred speech, and utter motionlessness during sleep, although he has forced himself to speak as eloquently as possible so that only the most severe attacks cause him to slip up.
Constant usage of the hardsuit he wears has made him increasingly dependent on it to function, making it hard for him to walk on his own. Severe attacks of sydenham’s chorea can render him incapable of purposeful movement until the attack ends.

Tell me what sucks :smirk:

I can help you out in PMs a bit, but if people would like I can give a loredump on firearms in this.

edgy boi.
Ill leave out any chances for stuff like torture, but there will be some times where the rest of this can come into play

which faction was his group fighting alongside at this time?

Overall this is looking pretty good, after we work out that bit with weapons he should be all set

definitely wise, I only included it as a frame of reference for his characterization but will probably tone it down a tad

per the signups:

so I assumed the Sivas Militia was only ever initially fighting for Blackvine

yes, initially they were, just wanted to be sure that he was fighting during that time and not during the point where it went to crap, especially since he had ties to the Argon beforehand.

Added a weapon type, a doohicky to compensate for his skill issue, and removed some of the cringe :goo:

Looking good, Vitus is Approved

Edit: dropped a screenshot of the explanation of weapons I gave to Ghid on the topic. check it out if you need help, and as always, feel free to ask questions.

Name: Lance Corporal Lin Gang

Age: 21

Origins/Faction: Blackvine

Position/Branch: An Engineer Corporal , originally a member of a strike force.

Weapons: LMG: Procured during a skirmish,
Lin wields a standard light machine gun.
Lin holds 4 magazines.

Submachine gun: Mounted to a holster on Lins uniform, a standard issue weapon. Along with it, Lin has 3 magazines.

Equipment:

The Ironclad: A modified Hard suit, it has been fitted with additional portions of armor, along with additional supports for a full helmet, of which contains a built-in light, and breathing apparatus. The suit is heavier than typical suits, so it moves at a slower speed. It can be overclocked into a full sprint, where this hunk of metal transforms into a one-man wrecking ball. Once the charge is over, the battery is nearly emptied, with only enough juice for an attack. It still requires batteries, due to its increased power needs for the extra weight. Lin carries three at the moment.

She also carries a welding torch, and a small tool kit, for repairs and maintenace on both her suit, and in general .

Appearance: Lin has a muscular build, with a set jaw, piercing eyes, and black short curly hair. She constantly wears her uniform, and displays her badge with pride, despite any discomfort.
The Ironclad: A burning jet black hardsuit, adorned with the insignia of Blackvine, it has a large helmet with a headlight, along with a number emblazoned onto the side of it: “67”. Its hulking frame makes it tower over most, standing tall as a symbol of Blackvine justice.

Personality: Lin is gruff, demanding officer, wanting absolutely astute soldiers of those within her team. This is only outdone by her dedication to her cause for the annihilation of her people’s enemy.
She feels incredible debt towards her nation and will do anything to stop their enemies. She is blunt, uncaring, as she feels to be seen as an unstoppable shield that does not falter in the face of adversity.

History: Lin was a nobody, a girl in a settlement, until Blackvine came, and took her to her destiny. She was trained with others and was found to be able to build things by hand and be able to kill things by hand just as effectively. She eventually created the Ironclad, as both remembrance to the girl she was, and the woman she had become.
She fought well, and earned her stripes, eventually being promoted sergeant of an engineering hardsuit team. However, as they were being deployed down onto the ground, a bombardment struck her team, scattering them, and leaving her one of the few still alive.

Trivia:
Lin will occasionally play music during battle. When she does, it reverberates from her helmet at out onto the battlefield, keeping her focused.
The Ironclad has been called “The Black Devil” By the enemy.

She is a Sergeant. Its her job to maintain morale and expect good results from her soldiers.

Only said she was muscular. Never said she was an absolute powerhouse.

Name: Alice Ishikawa (doesn’t like to say her real name, prefers to call herself by her nickname “Ace”)

Age: 19

Origins/Faction: Blackvine navy

Position/Branch: Blackvine engineer, low ranking member of the repair unit on a Blackvine warship

Weapons: Blackvine standard issue light cased handgun, two magazines of ammo and a military knife.

Equipment/hardsuit: Ace carries standard equipment for Blackvine naval repair personnel:

  • The Heavy Multitool, a specialised power tool that can be switched between four modes: laser cutter, nail gun, welding device and scanner (for assessing the damage done to any machinery). Despite not being a conventional weapon, the Heavy Multitool can be used as one. The welding device can be used at close range, while the nail gun and laser cutter can be used at medium to close range. (The nail gun fires nails that can pierce light armour one nail per second, but it’s quite inaccurate, while the laser cutter is very accurate, firing one continuous laser that can cut through most steel at point blank range, but gets weaker with the increase of distance. At maximum range, which is comparable to the range of a shotgun, the laser cannot do more than set fabric on fire and give severe burns to human skin);

  • fireproof, puncture resistant and heat resistant heavy duty jumpsuit. When zipped up and coupled with the standard issued Blackvine engineer helmet, it can create a vacuum seal, allowing the user to survive in space for ten minutes (Currently Ace lacks the helmet);

  • rudimentary hardsuit consisting of a pair of heat resistant power gloves that strengthen the grip of the user, allowing them to pick up and carry heavy objects easier, and a simple leg exoskeleton that contributes to the increased ability to carry heavy objects, without sacrificing the speed and mobility of the user, at the cost of not providing much protection. Includes magnetic boots;

  • special harness worn under the suit that helps redistribute the weight while carrying heavy objects throughout her body, which, in combination with the hardsuit, allows Ace to operate the Heavy Multitool without losing any of her natural speed and mobility.

Ace replaced the standard helmet issued as a part of the repair personnel uniform, which was damaged during one of the missions, rendering it unwearable, with her welding mask. It provides a similar level of protection, but has worse visibility and can’t create a vacuum seal together with the jumpsuit.

Her other equipment includes a small welding kit for tinkering with electronics, as well as headphones with soundproofing, which protect her from going deaf while doing repairs in the engine section of the spacecraft.

Appearance: Standing at 5’6”, Ace is of below average height. She has short, extremely messy straw coloured hair, the ends of which always appear black from big amounts of grime, as well as being burnt all the time. Her skin is quite pale, but it’s generally hard to tell because of said grime covering it at all times.
She has the well-toned body of someone who does strenuous menial labour on a daily basis.

(Drawing by yours truly)

Personality: Ace is mischievous, bratty and rambunctious. She likes to fool around and get under the skin of others. Ultimately, there is no malice in her attitude, and she is a generally well-meaning, caring person, if you manage to look past the offputting facade. Even in the most dire circumstances, she tries to uphold a cheerful and lighthearted spirit, and can often be perceived as careless, but she’s not scared to get her hands dirty and will get things done when she’s required to.

She has a free spirit, but will follow orders if the situation requires it (and if she likes the person giving said orders).

She is confident, but her lack of experience often gets the best of her, resulting in less than desirable, or sometimes disastrous outcomes. For instance, she has no experience with war, at least the kind that takes place on land, and being in a war zone in general, which makes her current situation even worse.

History: Ace comes from a non-important family in an insignificant part of the world under the leadership of Blackvine. Not being particularly good at anything in particular, apart from tinkering with machinery, and needing to make ends meet, she chose the only option available to her: to enlist in the military when she turned eighteen, particularly the part of it that has the task of maintaining and repairing military spaceships and become a naval engineer. It was incredibly strenuous labour in horrible conditions, but at least it meant that she never needed to actually engage in battle herself.
That continued for a year, until the ship she was on got shot down in the atmosphere of Sivas. Following the crash landing and the subsequent separation from the crew, Ace ended up stranded on the planet, with no way to leave or reach out for help.

She didn’t particularly care about the conflict on Sivas, as it didn’t affect her distant homeland, and by extension her, in any way. But how that she’s stuck directly in the middle of it and she has no choice but to get involved, she wants to leave the planet as soon as possible, whatever it takes.

Trivia: Ace likes to draw and is pretty good at it, keeping a small notebook with her drawings and a pencil in one of the pockets of her jumpsuit at all times. However, she keeps it a secret, as she’s too self conscious and embarrassed to share her hobby with others people.

Despite wearing her soundproof headphones when doing particularly loud repair jobs, her hearing still worsened, so she speaks very loudly and sometimes struggles to hear what others are saying.

Name: Anders Brenn

Age: 38

Origins/Faction: The Baronies’ Grand Argon Fighting Forces

Position/Branch: Marine paratrooper/Special Operations trooper

Weapons: 9mm semiautomatic pistol, silenced SMG

Equipment: Flashlight (built into helmet), radio, combat hardsuit.

Appearance: Brenn wears a standard camouflaged uniform under an olive drab hardsuit. He also wears a matching helmet with a triangular reflective visor. The helmet has a radio transceiver and flashlight built in. As for his facial features, Brenn has generic Caucasian skin, hazel eyes, and brown hair that is often uncombed due to him wearing his helmet much of the time.

Personality: To the outside view, Brenn would seem a cool, focused individual, an apparent expert in both his military and private life. However, his focus tends to become more single-minded over time, which has led him in the past into reckless actions, some of which would never have been approved or considered by his superiors. He has been known to spend unusual amounts of time training for combat, which is the usual explanation given for his success in his unapproved actions in combat. He is sometimes seen as unusual by officers and fellow soldiers.

History: Born on one of the member worlds of Blackvine, Brenn had a peaceful life. Peaceful, that is, until the secession from the Barony. As a firm believer in the rights of the colonies under a strong centralized government, Brenn joined the Barony’s military as a noncommissioned officer, and found that he excelled there. However, he was deemed unfit for promotion by his superiors after a gambit involving a squad of Marines that needed rescue (after being used as bait to draw out Barony forces). Despite a successful rescue, Brenn was held responsible for the capture of the Marines and was nearly court-martialed. In the end, he was severely reprimanded, and was moved from the ground units to a paratrooper unit, where his solo operation talent would be more helpful. Since the beginning of the current war, Brenn has been participating in several infiltration missions, scouting Blackvine troop movements across various locations on Sivas.

Trivia: (to be added later)
