TTV secret santa 2003: Blue

Normally i like to keep the “secret” in secret santa. And by normally i mean i did that once. But this year, i wanted to talk a bit about the gift i made, and the thought process behind it.

So i was assigned Minethuselah. Now of course, my first thought was the self-moc, a go-to for secret santa. But then i took a look at Miney’s self-moc, and well…

It’s hard to improve upon perfection.

But seriously, the use of the Kalmah armor to transition between black and red was genius (and may have inspired a moc i made today). I felt that anything i did would just be “this, but different” and that’s boring.

So then i took a look at Miney’s other mocs, and saw this:

And i saw the text

Okay, so i knew what i wanted to do.

Now, when i looked at this moc, i saw a grey person with blue coverings, either armor or clothes. I went with clothes.

I built the leg design first, then realize there was no way to attach anything to it. So then i said “skirt”. I was going to go with dark blue feet, but i couldn’t find any, so she has black shoes.

Now, of course, the character is shown with a pencil, so i had to do that. I didn’t want to just make the same pencil design though, so i made something different.

But that’s not all. As mentioned in the topic, the character originally played the saxophone. This isn’t shown in the moc topic, but i figured it would be a nice touch. Then i realized saxophones are intricate and typically gold, and trying to make one out of lego was a nightmare. Eventually, i gave up.

Just kidding!

Honestly really happy with how it turned out, and hope miney likes it too.

Excellent.

I’m glad Blue’s gotten some love these days. One of the first MOCs I ever made that wasn’t an Inika torso or some janky technic torso. Her dress is very well-constructed in your rendition as well, and the saxophone is a very nice call-back to the very first version.

the reason it was so perfect is because it was based on you ghid (accidentally but hey we don’t sweat the details)

That saxophone is genius, just a few parts but instantly recognizable!
