A Kanohi Mask Not Long To Last:Mask Of Atunement

If Kanohi masks of Atunement were ever made they probably wouldnt be around for very long and alot of individuals would be quick to get rid of any of them.

Imagine having the power to make yourself able to use any artifact of any level of power in the matoran universe aside from a kanohi mask.

For example Makuta are quick to destroy Toa Of Magnetism because of the threat they pose to them, yet they already posses this power themselves which means there a Kraata Power therefore Rahkshi of Magnetism exist.

Well imagine if there were a whole team of Toa wearing these Kanohi. None of them having to already be Toa of Manetism they could each find an entire squad of defeated or disposed of Magnetism rahkshi then each one pick up one of the Rahkshi’s discarded staffs and atune themselves to the Staffs of Magnetism from the Rahkshi and be able to access their power. Then one Makuta comes across the team each one of them being able to pose the threat of a Toa of Magnetism to the Makuta without even having to be A TOA OF THAT ELEMENT!!

This is an extremely case-specific circumstance already requiring a large supply of defeated Rahkshi of the correct Kraata type. Makuta also possessed a large variety of powers that can directly interfere with the usage of Kanohi that don’t have the same effect on elemental abilities (slow, darkness, power scream, confusion, silence, vacuum) which could hinder or outright counter the mask’s abilities.

I also don’t know where you’re getting the definition of Attunement from. The only mention I can find of it in existing media is the Krana Yo-Kal (Earth Attunement):

This doesn’t match the description of attunement in regards to your fanon mask. Generally speaking, it seems likely this capability could be attained using the Mask of Adaptation, augmenting the user to become capable of wielding a Rahkshi staff proficiently.

Have you played D&D where there are items that require players to attune themselves to it in order to use the item. Well I was just thinking of a Kanohi with a Universal ability of this power alowing the individual any use of any item in the Matoran universe aside from masks, although the mask would require alot of discipline to use. As well as practice with and others would be able to make greater use of the masks levels of power.Such maybe like Brutaka power hungry and wanting to take the Staff Artahka for himself. The Magnetism thing was simply an example on why it would be quick to go.

Aw man, you really should. With your skill at writing and how frequently you do free advertising for TOGAV/TBOS do RPs on here, you’d probably enjoy being a Dungeon Master. Lots of room for making solid (or deranged) stories in D&D.

I think Call of Cthullu might be more fitting.

Like Ghid said, this, like many of your suggestions, feels very circumstantial, and the usefulness of this mask very much varies on the availability of powerful weapons. For a Toa operating on Xia or Odina, it would probably be incredibly useful, but, for a Toa operating on Mata Nui or Voya Nui, it would be nigh-useless.

Is it fundamentally balanced, if, in some scenarios, it’s unimaginably potent, yet, in others, it’s the exact opposite? Technically, yes. Is that a problem? Well, I was going to say yes, but then I remembered the Kaukau.

However, that escapes a fundamental problem. Most weapons in Bionicle are either powerless conduits for an entity’s power or powerful in themselves but not tied to any one entity. So, unlike in D&D, I don’t think this power really fits the nature of the Bionicle universe, since any given being would already be able to access the power of an item without this mask.

Unless, that is, they had a belt covered in Kanohi, and, when the time came to make an attack, they would grab one off the belt and channel its power…
