BIONICLE G1 Canon Contests Discussion & Questions

I think that CCBS never “killed” Bionicle, instead, it actually gave it a second life, so building Marendar out of CCBS wouldn’t make much sense to me.

This kind of makes sense, but my problem with this concept is that CCBS and Bionicle G1 parts have extremely different, I’d even say opposite, aesthetics, so this will result in Marendar looking like it doesn’t belong to Bionicle universe. I don’t think that this is what we want to get from these contests.

That’s a factual point to make, CCBS is pretty opposite to the Bionicle Aesthetic. However, there are different ways we can interpret that. Since CCBS’ aesthetic looks so alien to anything else in Bionicle, wouldn’t it make sense to use CCBS as a tool for alien or unusual creatures in these canon contests?

From that perspective, CCBS’ smooth shells could work well to give Marendar a smooth, uncanny look, like the T-1000. In the end, there are like a billion correct interpretations we could make since we know so little about Marendar; CCBS could work in several different interpretations.

And now that I’ve thought about it for a little but, CCBS’ smoothness could also work with GSB too. GSB has, well, skin, and people have always said that would be difficult to replicate in a MoC. CCBS fits the smoothness of skin well, imo. It’d be especially good for GSB since we got a bunch of Pearl Gold shells, the same color as Irnakk’s spine.

Yo, also, I did say I read the serials in ‘13, didnt I? Think about the community’s culture back then, lmao. Middle school me had very different thoughts than present me.

I remember that one. Very good :+1:

That a good point, But Marendar and the Great Spirit Robot and everything inside of it were created on the same planet by the same Beings, so they had to work with the same technology, meaning that Marendar should probably resemble the residents of the Matoran Universe to a certain extent. You can achieve that look by primarily using the same G1 pieces.

As for the “alien” creatures, Glatorians and Agori were quite alien to Toa and Matoran, yet they all shared the same building system and pieces, right?
All Bionicle figures had gears, pistons and various little details.
That’s what Bionicle aesthetic is, so I think that we should try to follow it in these contests. It’s been quite successful so far, since the Helryx and Artakha models fit within this aesthetic quite neatly, even though they have some small and major flaws.

I guess, creating a MOC that both utilises CCBS and follows that aesthetic is possible, but not easy.

I like this idea. Another way to achieve this look would be by using the newer kind of technic panels, the ones that started appearing in 2008-2009 and are still used in modern Technic sets.
That’s actually what I used a lot in my Marendar MOC

Yeah, we all went through that CCBS hate phase at some point

Personally, one of the reasons why I favor a bulky Marendar is because I think he needs to look like he can take hit. If you’re building something designed to kill Toa, you need to factor in that Toa tend to operate in teams.

Now, he can always use divide and conquer tactics, but a Toa hunter won’t last long if it can’t fight multiple opponents at once.

I agree. I would like to add there are no reasons why bulky Marendar could not be fast and agile and there are no reasons why relatively agile looking Marendar could not take a hit. Superman is not particularly agile but he can out run a speeding bullet. Even fragile looking Marendar is most likely made of Protosteel so it can take a punch and deal one.

I’d like to think that if Marendar loses against toa+glatorian but survives the encounter he might re think his aproanch and use more clever tactics.

i honestly after this long forget what all the planned contests were meant to be; i remember helryx and tuyet being my most anticipated at least.

what i also realize now is how much im looking forward to lariska; since the end of g1 i realized how much i liked her character, but also that if she gets a canon looks, it would be great to see a resurgence of figure groupshots and fanart of the federation of fear crew, as that was one of my fav serials(im also currently hunting down the sets to make makuta spiriah)

Here’s the list. Tuyet is next!

Eljay has said after Lariska there might be a vote about who next contest character should be.

There are a lot of toa characters after Lariska (years worth ) .

I hope one of the remaining titans is chosen to be put in the middle to break the Toa contests. Although I am biased since I take part in the Marendar competition.

Maybe we will add some characters? I personally like wish competition for Makuta tridax and The Recorder.

Kojol and the elemental lords would be nice

I believe the post-Lariska vote will be to determine whether the contests will continue at all, not who the next character will be.

This is definitely a possibility.

Tridax would definitely be a big one for me as well, given his role in the late story.

Kojol would also be nice, although he might not be considered due to never having an actual speaking appearance.

Don’t we already have canon visuals for all of them?

(Except the Element Lord of Earth, I guess)

Maybe trade some of the Toa out for Makuta Kojol and Tridax.

And since they’re shapeshifters, if you don’t like the winning entries, you could always handwave it away by saying that’s just one of their forms.

Everyone needs to vote Jerbraz.

oh yeah, good list, i think i was super hyped for all of these except the hagah and marendar. wish some others made it though,

others i would have love to see would be makuta kojal, the insane matoran that built the toa cannisters, pre-swamp krika, a sister of he skrall, velika as a great being and what teridax’s original form was before the makuta evolved into antidermis

i’m pretty sure that @TheJerminator’s right. After Lariska, we’ll vote on whether or not the contests will continue, not for who the next character will be.

A few months ago, Eljay told me that after these characters are done, they might look into making a second list

This is a good one. I’d be interested to see what people do with the “deformed Matoran” idea without Lego’s set restrictions that were on the Voyatoran.

was he deformed? i didn’t actually know that

No he wasn’t deformed, Karzahni just rebuilt him badly.

He did have a bad leg, incidental to Karzahni’s “repairs.”

Interestingly his madness came from seeing Tren Krom. Altough living in the realm of Karzahni didn’t help.

Oh I see.
