Name: Raymond “Ray” Lichenburg
Alias(es): Ray
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Alignment: For-Hire
Bio:
Growing up with a rather mean look and his tendency for being an emotional klutz, Ray inadvertently was roped into small play fights growing up, being typecast as the idiot, arrogant villain. Growing up with the admiration of the heros, Ray found himself instilled with admiration of them.
Getting into middle school, Ray dedicated his time to learning to box and developed his physique. His klutzy attitude and general demeanor caused his schoolmates to distance themselves from him as he got into trouble as he became an inadvertent trouble maker. Over time he got tired of this fate. Shafting himself away from his school and public life, he turned to weird hobbies on the internet to hide away his troubles.
Getting out of High School, Raymond did menial work, hearing more and more of meta-humans. Even some of his old schoolmates got powers. He buried himself deeper into his hobbies as the dream seemed unattainable. Upon one of his online friends finding out of his expertise, he got hired as the pseudo bodyguard for an upcoming con.
At the con, he had to confiscate a variety of items, one of which was the sword that would later become his bindings. Closing up the convention center, he took the remainder of the unclaimed items and took them along with him, planning to leave them with his employer. Getting jumped on the way, Ray caved into using a weapon and used the random sword that he took. Once the fight was over, Ray realized that he was bound to the sword. During the thrill of the fight, he didn’t even realize that the sword was magic. Someone snuck in a magic sword without confiding in anyone and let it get confiscated. He finally achieved his childhood dream but it ended up being a disability to a normal life. Disappointed in his childhood dream, he grew to view powers as simply just weapons or tools based on how he realized most used them. The idea wasn’t as rad as before and grew into his disdain for weapons. It removed his sole skill and now he had to rely on it.
Continuing along the path of being a bodyguard, his prospects expanded as he now had powers. His skills were now needed and his talents allowed his clients to ignore his emotional nature and klutzy attitude. Upon finding out that he could lend his strength to others as a sword, he eventually made that his main business. He was now essentially a “Power For Hire”. Due to a notable client rampaging through a town with him in his sword form without his consent, he was branded a criminal and the trauma involving those using his sword developed.
He snuck off to Metropolis and is currently hiding low, using the innate magic in him to hide in magical establishments. Realizing that he was an emotion-filled person, often going by heart instead of brains. Absolutely hating this part of him, he’s started to portraying himself as what he sees as a stoic renegade seeking to be more logical. Though he often comes off as a jerk.
Powers/Abilities/Equipment:
I Want To Hold Your Hand is the sword that Ray is seemingly eternally bound to.
Whenever the sword’s contact is removed from Ray, he will briefly turn into a bolt of lightning and will dart towards the sword until it is stricken. Afterwards, Ray will reappear with the sword in his grasp once more. When the sword is outside of it’s range, Ray won’t turn but instead the sword will turn into a lightning bolt and dart back towards Ray’s grasp instead. If the sword is held by someone other than Ray, they will be able to control the direction of the lightning bolt to their whim and be able to converse with Ray’s lightning state.
If the sword is broken beyond use or if Ray himself suffers enough damage, he will transform into the broken parts of the sword and recover until they’re both healthy once more. In this state, people can still wield at risk of him being damaged further.
Example of Power - The User throws the sword over a barrier. The User then turns into a bolt of lightning and easily scales the barrier in this form. Traveling across the route, he might strike those within his way to his sword.
The User drops his sword and a stranger unsuspectingly picks it up for him before he notices. The stranger gains control of the User in his lightning state, being able to manipulate the direction.
The sword is broken in battle. Ray is turned into lightning and is sent into the sword, turning into the broken parts of the sword, effectively being contained. Anyone can pick up the damaged sword and use it to their whim without concern to the man inside.
Just so everyone knows, I probably won’t be very active for a while, since I’ve been busy playing the Lego Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars videogame (which took me forever to buy, but the wait was worth it ).
You know what, I can respect that.
Oh yeah, I was going to get around to this, sorry for the wait. Approved.
Clearly I was tired
It’s all good
Did this RP die?
It’s just sleeping; we were just talking about what’s happening next and how to get things moving again.
honestly just remind us whenever you need posts or whatever. we haven’t forgotten i think
Okay, we need to have a talk. At first, you had a character who was somewhat believably naïve, but you’ve flanderized them to the point where they barely even talk like a person anymore. For the love of all that is good in this world, can you please dial it back?
but obsidian it’s FUNNY
don’t you see the FUNNY
In all seriousness our glorious gm has a point. Hayden’s gone from somewhat awkward to completely incompetent and having ineptitude with sentences can’t be his only character trait, man.
Sorry I was having to much fun, do I need to change my question?
No, what’s happened has happened, just… please, for me. I have to reply to this stuff, y’know?
Sorry, I get it
Honestly, I wasn’t intending Hayden to talk this bad, but I kept ramping it up and I’m honestly tired of having to make it worse. So I’m glad you said something.
I’m sorry guys I’m gonna have to stop out of this one, having just started a job. It’s been fun
Sad to see you go.
I assume Vance just won’t do anything again, @TheMightyObsidianDude?
