I personally prefer your new chest, I feel it’s more creative to use smaller parts cohesively like that
Looks good! I like how you’ve still got the spikes on the chest. Assuming those grey axles holding the Bohrok eyes on are this piece, you could swap them out for red ones to mimic the orange studs from the old design.
You know what? That’s actually a good idea. Completely forgot those things even come in red, despite actually just getting some with my last bricklink haul because I figured they might be useful at some point. Guess that’s gonna be sooner than expected.
Sadly I only got two of them - blue pinaxles are bad enough, don’t need to add red ones to the mix But, of course, since I’m building in red here… I guess I need to get more.
Is this a Bohrok eye or something else?
That’s a Bohrok eye. It’s connected on a T-bar.
Has there been any progress on this project? (Apologies if this sounds pushy, I don’t know how to make it sound polite…)
No issue, but there hasn’t been much progress, I fear.
Jarnat is still waiting for completion because I haven’t gotten around to buy parts yet.
And I started on Manguopo/Mangiru but then stopped because I also need to get some parts for him.
I typically only buy parts when I can get a lot of stuff at the same bricklink store, and prices are in a range I think is ok. Which is becoming harder… I am also running low on some parts that are hard to replenish for decent prices. Black friction sockets and silver slizer feet are things that are starting to get concerning. I think I’ll have to take apart/modify some of my other stuff eventually (I’ve already started with that, revamp of my TSO MOC coming soon…).
And, lastly, I keep getting distracted by other interesting stuff.
Would it be worth it to build the ones you’ve done so far digitally so you can scavenge parts from them and still do group shots with all of them together?
Hypothetically, yes, but I really hate building digitally and have neither the skill nor the interest to figure out how to do cloth capes digitally (which a couple of my Makuta wear).
That said, I do kinda have “instructions” for some (maybe 5-6?) of them digitally from a couple years ago. But none of these are complete because I did’t bother with custom parts packs. It’s just enugh to figure out together with the pictures what goes where.
I don’t know how accurate they are, but I have complete-ish Studio models of most of them. Right now, Jarnat and Akima are the only incomplete ones (and Akima solely because I don’t have a model of the dragon head piece on the back turbines). Obviously, as you’ve said, they don’t have any of the cloth accessories from the physical builds, but aside from that they should be mostly correct.
Here’s a render of all of them together, with a probably-incorrect Jarnat and unavailable parts swapped out for substitutes.
I can find a way of sending them to you if you’d like.
Oh, wow, you made these only based on the WIP and finished stuff pictures? These look very accurate from a first glance!
You also mentioned at some earlier point that you were doing this, didn’t you? I feel like I dimly remember something on that line.
In any case, awesome work!
It’s also quite nice seeing them all together like this. My photography skills are not the best, and there is a also a space problem IRL, so what I did for the start of this thread is kinda the best I can pull off that’s decent quality.
I see you even gave Vyrdran that staff, even though that was just an accessory I briefly snatched from Sachel and switched out the Zamor.
Guess I’ll need to step up my game so all those empty spaces get filled…
At present, I don’t really have a need for a digital file, but definitely let me know in case you ever have any questions regarding the construction! Though, of course, most of these are in storage at my parent’s house, so I actually only have the unfinished ones as well as Jasax and Vyrdran to actually look at (planning to give both a little makeover at some point).
Spiriah also has the launcher from the WIP version rather than the spear because I don’t have a model of that Knights’ Kingdom sword (yet).
Oh, right, I got rid of the launcher, didn’t I?
But the spear was actually also just an accessory from the photoshooting. I didn’t actually leave it with him.
Looking forward to seeing it!
Finally have some updates again.
Decided it’s about time I revisited the WIP of Gorast I had lying around for almost 3 years. Geez.
Finally came up with a (very complicated) torso design.
No clue about the head, though… was back in the day planning to use that Breeze helmet like Gringat did on his MOC, but I really don’t feel it here. Problem is, I don’t really have a lot of small lime parts suitable for a custom head… Gotta see, I guess.
Will maybe add wings on those open axles from the Mahri blades over the shoulders. Not sure yet.
And while I’m at it, here’s also what I currently have of @darkbrick999’s Makuta Mangiru. Right now I’m mostly waiting for an opportunity to get some wing pieces for him to figure out how he might come together. Will also have to look at the exact distribution of yellow at a later point. Head might be a bit small, but on the other hand it could work on him…
The head kinda looks like a elite Skrall helmet.
You’re not kidding about Gorast’s torso being complicated. How did you attach the liftarms with the Mahri blades?
So, I have a first head design. Recognizable, I think, but I kinda don’t like the mouth section. Not really sure at the moment what to do there, though… Might need to look into what other parts come in lime, maybe. Any suggestions?
Her head looks like a bonehead from voodoo island.
