The Antidermis pool (Gilahu's Brotherhood Project Makuta WIPs)

Head is recognizable and well built, but I have trouble getting Gorast vibes. I vote for the addition of wings, which I think would help a lot.

I’d disagree with @biomechanical_baboon, the wings and stingers were known mutations/stuck-in-shapeshifted appendages. This looks plenty recognizable and understandable as what Gorast may have looked like pre-Core.

Small modification, big difference, I’d say. Neck-head connection is a bit wobbly, but stable, so I guess I’m gonna stick with it.

Big question now of course is - shall I add wings, a cape, or generally leave the MOC as is?

Since Gorast was known to use her wings as weapons, i’d say give it wings.

Seconding wings, especially since you’ve already got a connection point for them in the form of the Stars foot on the back.

Alright, threw some wings together. Gonna keep them simple and thus not very posable to both save parts and because I’m seeing that this is already about the weight limit the friction in the waist joint and the pins holding the Mahri claws can tolerate.

The wings certainly add to the overall silhouette, but to depict Gorast, I don’t think they really matter that much.

Still, opinions?

Looks good!
Is there a way to have the wings stick out sideways instead of downwards, or would that cause problems with the bottom wing piece?

Would be a simple matter of changing the construction a bit, I’d think, but trying out different angles, I found “bird wings” to look better than “insect wings”

She looks great, though I worry making her too insect-y blurs the line between her normal and mutated forms. Did they say somewhere that she already had insect-like wings before?

You’re a little late, I fear :stuck_out_tongue:

But otherwise, yes, absolutely, hence I went for “bird” wings rather than “insect” wings. So at that point it’s really just the texture, I think.

As to the question whether we ever saw her with wings elsewhere… I don’t think so, but then she’s a shapeshifter and the only real unmutated description we ever got of her was at the time she appeared as a blue warrior. So I figure some liberties can be taken :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Decided to tackle @Distraxx’s Makuta Cenred next. I think I’ll focus a bit more on the bull demon/minotaur theme (while ironically making the head a bit more mask-like).

I also have ideas for some cloth stuff. A Brotherhood banner would be pretty neat. Maybe a shoulder cape in addition. Gotta see.
Definitely I’m aiming at giving him a rather bulky, powerful appearance.

For now, I only have some legs:

And here is Distraxx’s original for quick reference:

I had lost track of this project. Glad to see it’s still going!

Remembered this existed and decided to check in at the perfect time haha. Your stuff is so well done, and so Bionicle, Gilahu, it is really great work.

So, started work on the torso - this should be bulky enough to match the legs, right?

Also I’m thinking of doing asymmetrical pauldrons. I could use Fenrakk heads on both sides as well (and that would probably look quite good), but I am wondering if something asymmetrical might not be more interesting. Maybe I’d also add a shoulder cape.

Any opinions?

Well, there’s an asymmetrical glowing hand, so that might be of interest in the arm design (left).

What were you planning for the head? That’ll probably dictate a lot of the rest of it.

Right… Though honestly, I’ll have to see what hand/arm design I end up with to see if I can keep that. But it is certainly something to keep in mind.

Something that’s still horned but a little more mask-like (so less of a snout). Beyond that I haven’t really looked at it yet and it’s probably the last thing I’ll build.

Side topic - I actually also plan to give him a Brotherhood banner that can be attached to the back. Feel like doing some embroidery again. I think I’d like to attach that at a slight angle, so it would also contribute to the asymmetry.

Oh wow I kinda forgot this was a thing

Looking back on it after all this time, the two mocs I contributed to this project are hopelessly outdated both in terms of build quality and backstory quality :P

I’ll have to see about redesigning them sometime, as I’m still fond of the basic concepts behind both of them

And nice to see progress still being made here!

Yeah, it’s been a while :stuck_out_tongue:

Though, honestly, your MOCs still were definitely among the better entries. Definitely top 20, maybe even top 10. So surely they are not that outdated. But feel free to build updated versions. I would take everything that’s available into account once I get to your Makuta.

Meanwhile, progress on Cenred:

Arm on the left is only a copy of the other one so far, I’ll need to see about how to adjust this once I decide on a pauldron design. Top of the torso is obviously also not finished yet.

I’m also thinking that if I want to keep that trans red, I’ll need to add more.

With how much of a success the Brotherhood project was I’m curious if you had plans to host any other kind of community collab in the future (although I suspect you would need master again/have a master host it for you).

Good blending the dk grey in with the rest of the build. The asymmetry is only noticeably present in two areas: the hand, and on the back of the model aside the shoulder.

With the color differences there, and your using trans red, I would put the large Fenrakk head on the right shoulder and add more of the trans red on the left arm, growing in density until it reaches the hand.

Probably not, to be honest. I certainly don’t even have any idea about what a good topic for one could be right now. Besides, I have my hands full with the aftermath of this one :stuck_out_tongue:

At current, the arms are actually fully symmetrical, meaning both of them have all the trans red (it’s just a poor angle for the other arm in the picture). But indeed I could consider integrating that (better) into the asymmetry… Problem is the availability of trans red parts. Not a lot of options.
