The Antidermis pool (Gilahu's Brotherhood Project Makuta WIPs)

These are really cool Mocs you have made.

What’s that silver piece on the back?

You mean the equivalent to the Hordika chest on the front that closes the gap left by that Mantax armor? A Tahnok Kal shield. Though the axle is actually not pushed all the way in.

How many hours did it take for you to make these MOCs? I ask because they are all amazing.

Thanks!

Hard to say, really. Sometimes things come together rather quickly, sometimes they don’t. Any custom capes/cloth pieces then easily add a lot of time. And sometimes things just sit around for a while until I manage to get the parts I need/want to continue.

But I would say pure building time is typically > 8-10 hours at least. I don’t rush myself and like to try stuff out.

Speaking of trying stuff out - I now decided against any trans red for the moment on Cenred. Didn’t find a way to integrate enough to make it really work.
And here would be the current idea for the left side (the cape is just something I had lying around, he would get one made for him, probably about knee length.) Any opinions?

I don’t think the Hordika armor works in conjunction with the Fenrakk mask for shoulder armor, as one is very flat and the other very round. Perhaps a Knight’s Kingdom II second wave armor in silver might be a better match?

I did think about the Knight’s Kingdom armor, but that piece is way too small, I feel. The Hordika armor is really the only thing that matches the depth of the Fenrakk head.

Of course, I could consider adding something on top of it to make it taller, but at present I personally don’t see any necessity for it. (Also note that in the picture above it’s just laid on top of the shoulder. Once it’s attached, the angle would be a bit steeper, adding height. And the cape would somewhat cover the fact that the piece is rather flat by concealing the shoulder beneath. Or at least that’s the idea.

The one thing I’m a bit more concerned about right now is the texture, actually. The Hordika armor fits in quite well. But it makes the smooth texture of the Fenrakk head stick out more. I’m not yet sure if that’s good or bad.

If it’s going to be covered by a cape, does the texture matter?

The idea is for the cape to be between the armor and the shoulder. So the Hordika armor is still fully visible.

Hm… but, of course, the cape will have a rather smooth texture… that might balance things out with the Fenrakk head.

So, seems like it’s gonna be symmetry after all. Attaching that Hordika chest didn’t work out that well.

Next up the head, which I think I’ll attach to a bit of a hunched neck. Hopefully that won’t get too complicated. With custom heads one never knows.

After that the special stuff. Not sure if I’ll do a cape after all, but definitely that banner will happen.

Though once the head is done, I might also consider adding some colour throughout the MOC. Preferably trans red or trans orange, but either would be tough…

So, this head design came together rather quickly. I guess so much for ‘more mask like’ as well.

Definitely close to the original, though.

Solid design! I honestly think addng any translucent colors to it now would be a waste, as the black and silver is spared the monotony of existence by the touches of dk grey, and the aesthetic kinda goes hard as it is. Very quick turnaround on this one!

Say what was your inspiration to making the Antidermis Pool Gilahu Brotherhood project?

Well, you might be throwing two things together here.

At the beginning, there was the Brotherhood Project which I kinda started on a whim because I was thinking a complete Brotherhood of Makuta would be kinda nice, but creating all the missing characters by myself would take a long time and probably burn me out of ideas on the way. So a community project seemed fun. I also just recently joined the message boards at that time and thus really entered any kind of Bionicle community for the first time. It seemed like an opportunity.

Nevertheless, the idea of having a complete Brotherhood of Makuta as physical MoCs here with me still stuck, so eventually I decided I’d also revamp all entries (also because some of them were not that great and really needed a touchup). So I created this topic here to discuss my WIP revamps specifically.

So, first concept of the banner on paper:

  • do you think the height it is mounted at works?
  • do you think the size of the etire thing works?
  • do you think this being more of a “flag banner” (there’s probably a term for it, but I don’t know it) works? Or do you think it would look better if were hanging down centrally from the pole?

I personally think it’s probably a little too big. Not on a logical scale, but it distracts too much from the rest of the MoC (also because I have to zoom out to capture the entire banner).
Not to mention that it will be a massive splotch of colour when final.

The whole thing is of course inspired by the drawing Scorpion_Strike once made:

Yeah, I don’t know if keeping to the same colors as the illustration would be good for the moc, no matter what size the banner is. However, I still think you should totally build it, with the original colors and at that scale, but keep it as a separate element for the group as a whole to tie them all together.

Not a bad idea, actually, to have a big banner for the display I hope to be able to set up one day…

But I absolutely must try giving Cenred a banner to carry. That’s something I had in mind for him for years. I started his MoC now because I finally got around to organizing the cloth I’d need for it.

I think this size works better - just will make it ever so slightly larger because right now a little too much of the right side of the top bar is left uncovered. But that would translate to like half a centimeter in width and 1cm in legth or something.

I feel like, this moc could have bigger hands to fit it’s powerful and imposing stature, otherwise everything is spot on :+1:.

Larger hands is certainly something I considered which is why I ended up with this design for the fingers. Makes them appear at least a little larger.

I don’t feel like there’s much one can do with a ball socket at the core that fills the niche between standard hand and Axonn grippers, sadly.

The only other option I’d see here are maybe Mixel joints with a System-built hand. But I’m not really equipped with parts for that. Plus I’m not sure if that would end up being capable of holding the axes or fit with the Onua shovels space-wise.

I have meanwhile checked the possibilities for the banner, and basically I have two options here:

  1. single sheet of fabric
→ will look a little rough at the edges from the front, but in this context I think that’s ok.
→ will look pretty awful from the back because embroidery only works one-sided

  2. Double layer banner
→ edges will be relatively clean, but corners would be slightly rounded. I’d also need to make sure to sew the pieces together rather accurately, or there will be folds.
→ do the embroidery twice, once on each side, for it to look good from both.
→ banner would end up heavier and thicker. Not sure just how visible/relevant that would be, though.

Thing is, I need to decide this before starting because it will decide how the pieces need to be cut which in turn means based on these measures I have to do the embroidery before cutting.

And on a sidenote, I finally found a good bricklink deal for the parts I wanted for Jarnat and Mangiru, so presumably I can get back to those after Cenred.

I made something that could help, when I get a chance I’ll take breakdown pictures. My custom hand designs . new Titan hand design. - #24 by Droconis
