Toa Pohatu and the People of Po-Koro (1/6)

Hi everyone!

A few months, I did a Tahu revamp and said I wasn’t interested in revamping any of the other Toa Mata. Well, I was wrong! With the 25th anniversary of BIONICLE coming up, I decided to embark on a project to revamp every 2001 set, plus a few bonus MNOG-inspired models.

Thanks to an abundance of old brown Technic parts I had after my last project, I decided to first tackle fan-favorite Toa of Stone, Pohatu. Pohatu is well known for his unique upside down torso design, and while this revamp lacks his kicking function, I did my best to capture that iconic silhouette.

Turaga Onewa, the tallest of the Turaga, utilizes many shades of brown, including the Metru brown, which I had lots of fun incorporating into his design. Hafu and Huki (Hewkii) were fun, as Huki needed just a little tweaking from his design from a little bit ago, and Hafu finally allowed me to use those somewhat rare tan CCBS shells I haven’t been able to properly utilize for some time.

Huki was my second BIONICLE set ever, so the people of Po-Wahi have always had a special place in my heart, and this was a very fun group to tackle. Hope you like them!

I really like the scale these guys have between them, its way better than the original sets. Love to see part of the po-koro crew too, great job!

@wild_toa Thanks a lot! The original sets are, through my rose-tinted glasses, perfect, but scaling was always an issue in those early years as you pointed out. That was one of the key areas I set out to improve upon, so I’m thrilled you like them! Thank you for the praise and comment.

The mov of Pohatu and the matoran as well as Onewa are rocking well. The design is beautifully well polished I gotta say. Get it? Because rock-ing and polished. That is a pun on stones since Pohatu and the people of Po-Koro are stone.

@Au-Plau-Se Your word choice rocks, friend! Thank you for the nice comments, and glad you like these denizens of stone.

Your Turaga Onewa build still makes him look powerful, which I really like. Most other Turaga MOCs follow the movie’s depiction of them as frail, weak elders, but there’s really no reason for that to be the case; “weaker than a Toa” still leaves a lot of room for a strong, agile fighter.

Loving it! It’s always nice to see a good tan Bionicle MOC, especially ones of the 01 characters. I also like how the Turaga isn’t a chicken-legged freak thing now, looks much more cohesive.

@TheJerminator Thank you! While I like the movie designs, they do make the Turaga look rather decrepit. My Turaga designs emphasize their age and the fact that they were Toa, but are older now. I’m glad his power still comes across, and thank you for commenting.

@Minethuselah Thanks a lot! Tan is such a fun color to work with.

Are those Bohrok rubber band holders on Hewkii’s hammer? That’s a great parts use.

These designs look great. I like how on pohato you used older technical pieces. Makes it look very similar to the original.

I would very much like to see the other toa.

@ChubChub86 Thanks for commenting! The whole aesthetic I’m working towards is still the heavily machine/Technic vibe of those first few years, so thank you for noticing. The other Toa are going to be done; I’ve already tweaked Tahu and finished Lewa. I’ll be posting Kopaka this week!
